No One Gets Arrested for Pot Anymore…

One of the reasons many people give for not supporting Prop 19 is that it is practically legal now–no one gets arrested.  A case in Ukiah, one of many, shows this isn’t true.

I’m not saying I agree with the actions of the woman in the article below but I want you to substitute in the word grapes or wine wherever the synonyms for pot appear.  Would anyone have arrested this woman then?  (No, I don’t think 15 year old kids smoking is healthy.  I feel the same about wine. But no one would arrest this woman for having her 15 year old stay home from school, bring in the grapes, and sip some wine for a day during the grape harvest season. Yet alcohol has consistently been proven to be more addicting and more deadly than marijuana.)  From the Press Democrat:

A Ukiah woman who was allegedly paying her teenaged son to harvest marijuana instead of attending school was arrested Tuesday, police said.

Dena Price, 46, was arrested on suspicion of cultivation and possession of marijuana for sale, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, providing marijuana to a minor and child endangerment, police said. She also was cited for violating the city’s ordinance against outdoor marijuana growing, according to the Ukiah Police Department.

Police were called to the Yokayo Drive residence after someone spotted 7-foot tall marijuana plants protruding above the fence. They located 15 plants outdoors and about 11 pounds of trimmed and drying marijuana in the garage, officials said.

Police said they also discovered Price’s 15-year-old son and a 21-year-old woman trimming the marijuana. The two were being paid for the work, officials said.

Price’s son had stayed home sick from school and was allowed to use marijuana from the grow, police said.

Child Protective Services was called to the scene.

“No one gets arrested for an ounce” is what they usually say. No one, that is, except African Americans or poor people who live in a place less tolerant than the Northcoast. The other problem with the “no one gets arrested for an ounce” argument is that while you may not get arrested now, law enforcement can take your weed and fine you a hundred dollars and use it as grounds for a search. Under Prop 19, you get to keep your ounce anywhere in the state and get no fine.

no one gets arrested but under 19 all you can grow is a 5 x 5 area ., thats not much if you smoke regularly, matter of fact thats one plant very contained. this law only ensures you have to buy from commercial growers and will get prosecuted for having more than what they say you can have. There is no regulation against your kids bus driver or drivers of commercial trucks from smoking right up to the moment they enter their vehicle. This law is sooo flawed it is sick. Wait till you go visit your doctor and their so stoned they cant remember what exactly the name of the meds they should be prescibing. There is no test to determine how stoned you are so there is no regulation. flat out bad prop. vote no

Here’s a test to determine how stoned you are, Humboldt Needs Less 19: say “rubber baby buggy bumpers” ten times fast. If you can do it, back into the bus driver’s seat you go.

Seriously, I’m glad that MOST of the people I know will take your message for what it’s worth. (Sad to say, not all.)
