I say throw Gallegos out and stop corruption of Humboldt County DA’s office that colludes with professional pot growers instead of fairly representing all sides. Vote for Allison Jackson.

I didn’t vote for Paul, even though I think he is a nice guy, and some of what he has done in the DA’s office has been beneficial for some. My problem with him is his plea bargaining on child abuse cases. I get so mad at that kind of evil. I don’t know what problems Jackson will bring in, and I am sure she has her achilles heal as well, but I am ready to try something different.

I barely keep track of the dirt, but the chip on jackson’s shoulder is big enough for bystandards to trip on even if they know it’s there. Just look into the case. If you think gallegos has a soft spot for child molesters, you’ve already fallen into alison’s hole. What a ridiculous, and very mean spirited, basis for campaigning.

Just look at the child abuse prosecution decline under Gallegos. Then, talk to the child advocates.

Child Abuse Prosecutions

In 1997 (and note that despite his claims on his candidate statement in YOUR ballot info, he DID NOT CREATE the Child Abuse services team, nor the Domestic Violence Vertical Prosecution Team, nor the Bad Check Program)
In 1997:
There were 137 CAST Child Interviews
There were 56 cases of alleged child abuse RECEIVED by the DAs office
There were 37 child abuse cases FILED by the DAs office

In 1998
There were 142 CAST Interviews
There were 52 cases received by the DAs office
There were 37 cases FILED by the DAs office

In 1999
There were 194 CAST Interviews
There were 81 cases received by the DAs office
There were 49 cases FILED by the DAs office

In 2003
There were 205 CAST Interviews
There were 67 cases received by the DAs office
There were 40 cases FILED by the DAs office

In June of 2004 Paul Gallegos fired his top child abuse prosecutor.

Numbers mean absolutely nothing to me. The specifics of an individual case does. The dark side of suburbia is, like any outlet for easy monetary litigation, full of false claims. I’ve seen more than my share. Why are you only looking at the first few months of 2004? Are you demanding abuse from and upon the people? If you want to play the numbers game, please do so fairly.

A number might mean more to you if it were one of your own, money plays no part for us and family members struggle to explain the lack of involvement by the “powers that be”. I know that Gallegos doesn’t try cases he should, the reason for this is unknown to me. All I do know is that a person I care for more than myself has suffered a tragic and inhuman transgression that she may or may not recover from, and I am unsure how to help her when the government that has been elected to protect and serve fails to.

Because that was the last information I was able to get. I filed public records act requests for some additional information and was not able to get it – things like attendance at CAST meetings and CAST meeting agendas. I gave up at a certain point, but the downward trend is very clear. And the Times Standard’s more recent information makes that point quite clearly, even though they did not dig any deeper.

Maybe you will have better luck getting some new information. Or maybe, miraculously, we don’t have any more cases.

These are serious issues and they have been ignored. It is long past time that they get examined in full. I’m not going for hype. I am trying to tell you, with the available information what is really going on.

Gallegos has written in his candidate statement that he CREATED these programs. You can see that they clearly predate him. He took office in 2003.

Yet he has tried to cement his claim, first by using an employee’s “My Word” in the Times-Standard to repeat his ballot statement claim. Then, this very week, he tried to tuck that same paragraph into a Board of Supervisor’s proclamation honoring the workers in the Domestic Violence Vertical Prosecution Unit. Unbeknownst to him and his handlers, the paragraph was removed prior to the proclamation being passed BECAUSE EVERYONE IN THE ROOM KNEW THAT THE CLAIM WAS FALSE, including Bonnie Neely, who put forth the proclamation. Perhaps she did not know it was in there, but once it was called to her attention, she removed it.

Not knowing this, the Gallegos camp executed the next phase of this deception, issuing a Press Release stating that HE had been recognized by the Board of Supervisors for creating this program. FALSE.

These documents are clearly posted on the County’s website, as are the documents that prove that these programs predate him by many, many years.

“For the sake of hype” you say? Yeah. he sure is doing this for the “sake of hype.”

He’s relying on you guys in Southern Humboldt to carry the day for him. But you are not stupid. He may think you are, and he may think you will vote for him because of the pot issue. He assumes that he can SAY ANYTHING and you will not care. But in fact, if Prop 19 passes (and I am voting for it, you have waited far too long for this) – then pot will be legal and you will be stuck with him.

PAUL GALLEGOS’ BALLOT STATEMENT READS:
“…I established the Criminal Investigations Bureau, the Consumer and Environment Protection Unit, the Child Abuse and Adult Sex Crimes Unit, the Worker’s Compensation Fraud Unit, the Domestic Violence Unit and Bad Check Program….” and in his responses to candidate questionnaires he claims: and he claims: “… I taught the United States Constitution when I was a professor at Humboldt State University,…”

Note that , in addition to the CAST program noted above, there was a 1995 Board item recognizing the prior DA’s replies to a Grand Jury Status Report on the Bad Check Program, and in fact, if you call the County you will find that these programs predate their online QUESTYS system.

Here’ is the paragraph from his employee Joyce Moser’s My Word:

“…The District Attorney Domestic Violence Vertical Prosecution Team was created under the leadership of District Attorney Paul Gallegos to reduce the amount of trauma that victims/survivors experience when navigating through the criminal justice system…”

And here is the paragraph he tried to have slipped through in the Board proclamation:
“WHEREAS., the Humboldt County District Attorney Domestic Violence Vertical Prosecution Team was created under the leadership of District Attorney Paul Gallegos to reduce the amount of trauma victims/survivors experience when navigating through the Criminal Justice System; and WHEREAS…”

Remarkable, isn’t it? How do you characterize it?

Gallegos praised for leadership on domestic violence

District Attorney Paul Gallegos was officially commended today for his leadership in the fight against the epidemic of domestic violence. The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution expressing their appreciation, noting that the District Attorney Domestic Violence Vertical Prosecution Team was created under Gallegos’ leadership.

The team, which has a deputy district attorney, an investigator and two victim advocates, has the twin task of helping victims navigate through the criminal justice system while also holding offenders accountable.

The supervisors’ resolution noted a woman is victimized by an intimate partner every 28 seconds. Men, too, often are victims, at an average of about one every four minutes.

The district attorney’s team, according to the resolution, acknowledges that the real heroes are the victims, since it is up to them to testify during lengthy and often-intimidating court proceedings.

The supervisors issued their thanks to Gallegos and his team for “their dedicated service to the domestic violence victims of Humboldt County.”

Gallegos will win. The man is a player. Look at that tie. Straight gangster mack.

Jackson looks like some everyday haggard ass lady waiting in line for a scratcher at the Chevron.

The majority of people in Humboldt don’t care about none of the plea bargaining shit, we recognize game. That’s why bootsie ass Farmer got tossed too.

Her ad says in bold print something like “AND she’ll be the first woman DA in humboldt history!”. Whoop-dee-fuggin-doo. She’s out for the lives of children, and playing a gender card? Is she gonna be sitting over some case papers at her desk discussing with advisors how to drill as many suspected child molesters as possible, as deep as possible? There’s spite somewhere…it’s thick.

Rose needs to get a job and a life. Her obsession with Gallegos is more than a little unhealthy. Every thing she says is to spin lies and hate. Deception and dishonesty are two qualities she and her candidate have in common.

Nice try, anonymous. The proof is in the documents. The deception and dishonesty is coming from Paul Gallegos. Using his employee to sneak in his claim of having created the internet – I mean the DV Vertical Prosecution Team, trying to sneak that same paragraph into a Board of Supervisors proclamation that was supposedly to honor the workers, then trying to use that “award” (which he did not get, his effort failed) to CLAIM something that was not true, is not tru, and no matter how many different ways he tries to lie to you, will never be true.

He really believes you will look the other way and excuse this.

I believe people have more integrity than that.

Would you like to know why I have stuck with this as long as I have? What is is that I am “obsessed” with? Salzman and Gallegos count on people having short memories, and on people not knowing the truth about what they say – and that sneaky little ploy with the Bd of Sups phony commendation is only one of the things they hope you won’t have enough institutional memory to catch. They are used to people walking away and giving up, and they expect to get away with it.

But here’s the deal – corruption of the public judicial system cannot stand.

This is what Gallegos and Salzman tried to do, and why it matters:

Gallegos, at the behest of his handlers, was willing to completely and totally corrupt the PUBLIC JUDICIAL SYSTEM by way of Salzman’s Plan. Salzman’s plan was to have Gallegos set up a County TRUST FUND – through which Salzman could funnel in special interest money to PRIVATELY FUND A PUBLIC PROSECUTION. His plan called for them to run FULL PAGE ADS IN THE CHRONICLE, THE LA TIMES AND OTHER MAJOR PAPERS IN ORDER TO SOLICIT, ACCEPT AND USE SPECIAL INTEREST MONEY TO PRIVATELY FUND THE PALCO SUIT.

Gallegos took it as far as submitting Salzman’s Plan to the AG;s Office – and had they been successful at implementing it, it would have been a precedent setting move that would have permanently altered our public judicial system for the worse. Essentially he was willing to turn the DA’s Office over to the highest bidder.

You may think it is ok. I think THAT is pretty SCARY.

I think it is pretty scary that DA is so beholden to his backers and handlers that he would do such a thing.

I think it is pretty scary that – knowing about this latest scheme to hijack the Board of Supervisor’s commendation process for his own ends, and in order to deceive you – it’s pretty scary that you are willing to brush that aside, favoring imaginary lies over proven ones.

Palco trying to buy their way out of a lawsuit was bad.

Seeking to use the public judicial system as a weapon, and to corrupt it by turning it over to special interest money is at least equally as bad. I would argue it is even worse, as the DA really does have an obligation to act “without fear or favor” as he is so fond of saying and so blatantly in favor of ignoring.

If you care at all about these things as you profess to – if it really does mean more to you than just rhetoric and lip service, if you are willing to vote on fact and not rhetoric – I have given you facts. I have given you the proof, in his/his handlers own words on official documents. Not innuendo.

Gallegos/Salzman are counting on you to ignore it. they believe you do not care.

I believe you do.

Because while this time you may agree with one side and think it ok that the end result justifies the means, next time it may be directed at you, by some other entity. And safeguarding the public judicial system is worth a little time – even worth being called “obsessive.”

This is the man’s record. Official documents – and in their own words. From that day to this, tying to use an elected position, and the public process for their own ends.

It’s not ok.

But did you even know this had gone on?

This is the man’s record. Official documents – and in their own words. From that day to this, tying to use an elected position, and the public process for their own ends.

It’s not ok.

But did you even know this had gone on?

hey now…if you’re saying the DA was involved in some back door money movement to help bring down mega-bucks PALCO, their diarrhea on everybody’s doorstep, and their behemoth PR machine, you’re only doing the DA a favor in my eyes. Companies like PALCO count on being able to walk all over local judiciaries.

Nonetheless, your convictions seem sincere. Maybe next time instead of the battery of questionable claims, focus on promoting a better opponent than the horrible one you’re supporting now.
