Yes, We Cannabis
Will Marijuana be the Obama for California voters this year? Will it bring out younger people to the ballot box in record numbers in this off year election? Some pundits are saying yes. In fact, the Democrats are curious as whether the perceived liberal swing of cannabis consumers might change the outcome of this fall’s races for governor and other offices.
One respondent argued that marijuana smokers don’t have the motivation to get out and vote. I find this rather naive as marijuana smokers are currently both our president and our governor–hardly unmotivated people. And, Marijuana smokers are increasingly demanding that they be allowed into the mainstream. Many of them are professionals who take their jobs seriously but want to relax on their time off. They smoke and so do their friends. They just might turn out in large numbers to support what they see as an issue of individual rights.
Note: Channel 5 News appears to be ahead of the curve on covering marijuana issues. Yesterday, they had a crew in the SoHum area (I was interviewed). Today, they will be in Mendocino at the forum, Life After Legalization: Marijuana Enters the Mainstream held at the Saturday Afternoon Club at 107 South Oak Street in Ukiah beginning at 1PM. A screening of the new documentary Cash Crop will follow. I’ll be there.
