Yes it does, It’s hard to feel a certain way about something that is so readily changing, the moment you support, or don’t support the current views on the matter is the moment it changes to something completely different.

Fiance here…..wasn’t going to mention that…but since you did, there are a lot of inconsistencies amongst the gang up there. I just read your piece in HumboldtGrow about abusive relationships there and the problems caused by them. You didn’t mention the children and how if affects them. I am still looking for the piece on raising children up there in that same rag…still have not found it. What you all seem to be ignoring is the fact that you all seem to turn a blind eye to these situations. I recently read on a blog (forgot which one, maybe yours) that you “police yourselves” Obviously this is not happening. We have to leave my stepdaughter at your mercy, I hope you take better care of her in the future than you have in the past! I keep hearing about how much everyone up there loves her, now is the time for you to prove it.

Fiance,

I can imagine how I would feel if my child were living in a situation that I perceived as unsafe. I would be frantic. My heart goes out to you two.

In your stress, I can see how you would want to demonize the whole area up here but being as how I love it, I obviously don’t feel the same way. I do try to see problems though and speak to them. Life doesn’t improve when you see only the good and not the problems…and vice versa.

Having said that, here are my specific responses to your comment. When you refer to “the gang up there” I was actually referring to marijuana activists as a whole everywhere not ones in Humboldt and its surrounds specifically.

In regards to writing about the children, I have, in fact, just written a piece for Grow entitled “Growing up Green” about the children of marijuana producers. I interviewed offspring of growers from 3 to 40 and tried to present an unbiased though obviously anecdotally based article. The magazine should be out now though as of Wednesday it wasn’t in our local store.

Fiance again:

Kym, you know we don’t demonize the whole area. BUT I do have a problem with 3 schools lying and covering up for her mothers neglect. I know that there are quite a few people that are protecting her mother when they shouldn’t be because of the “growing” thing.

Although I am unable to get a copy of HG from here I did read the excerpt that you posted. It seems that the couple of things you posted here are the same ol’ SoHum rhetoric. I have written documentation from some kids up there who talk a different story when they are not talking to the “press” or their “caretakers.”

It is not a situation that we “percceive” as dangerous, it is one that we know IS dangerous. I keep reading about the guns and the home invasions. I kept seeing my stepdaughter and her friends advertising on the internet, including schools, phone numbers, pics of themselves and conversations about getting high and drinking. If I were the kind of person that did that kind of thing I would just go on Facebook or MySpace and start picking and choosing whose house to hit next. I say kept because I quit looking, I can’t let the life her mother is promoting continue to upset us and disrupt our lives.

I also keep reading about law enforcement “scaring” the children of the growers who get busted, what does anyone expect? They are breaking federal law and they are involving their children. It is a risk that anyone with a brain cell left sould know is there. It is the reason we don’t live and grow there ourselves. I was invited to move up there and do just that over 20 years ago, I chose not to because I wanted a family and knew I didn’t want to risk losing my kids or worse. To them, since you are putting your children in that position and that means, to them, that you don’t care so why should they. To them your children are better off in a foster home somewhere than being raised in that type of environment. It’s not even really the growing that bothers us, its the abuse that is ignored and hidden because of the growing.

I don’t have knowledge to address your specific situation.

However, I can address the larger issues. I hope when you read the WHOLE article, you see that I try to point out issues with violence and secrecy and drug use. But I also point out what the growers’ children (and in many cases we’re talking adults with children of their own–not easily swayed youths) had to say about their own lives–and, as a whole, they were positive. And, to my eyes, the most of the adults were living lives that contributed to society and satisfied them.

I hope you take time to read it when it becomes available.

yea, but it swill only be full of how great it is to raise drug addict children at taxpayer’s expense….

The government is bankrupt from the bottom up, it is insolvent- and would be boarded up if it was a business- with anything of value stripped and sold for scrap.

The sooner we grasp the fact that Empire has been wrecked on the rocks- the quicker we can move beyond this and into a voluntary society, the better.

I like seeing state’s rights turn into county right’s- this moves us closer to setting up areas where taxation is punishable by hanging, and no go zones for government trash.

I don’t like weed growers, smokers, dealers, or hippy garbage- they DO have a use in rushing the high ground and tearing down the king’s court. After the fall, they can do as they like- provided they stand on the barricades against corp/gov aggression.

Citizenship will be EARNED, not granted, as this struggle to defeat the queen of england has been on going for over 200 years and will last another 200 until Jesus returns to vanquish the money changers. Make no mistake, Jesus will return with a sword- the enemy will fall like wheat, those who worked for Satan will burn in Hell.

The greatest trick ever played on a nation was subverting the militia for a mason, and telling people they won the war.

Frank Zappa said it right, ‘Dope, you are what you smoke.’

I hope it is a little more nuanced than that. I’m rather excited about it.

Good business is good business- God gave you your Labor and it is yours- I hope you make many gold coins for selling your works.

I have read some of your work, like it, I also have a Cannon Rebel digi slr- so your pics speak volumes.

Children on pot farms is as silly as children helping boozers brew hooch

there are no excuses for bad images, or leading children towards darkness….better to have a stone and be tossed into the ocean, etc.

A thought for humdums to ponder about money in a post value world-

remember the green tortoise? remember how they got chased out of town for bringing euro trash? that bus service was a great thing small towns on the coast- the way to make money is to work for hard currency, in the future this isn’t federal reserve notes- euros from euro trash on vacation is a good in…..too bad asshat lawyers try to close down hostels with the help of humdums. that hostel network can be a supply of hard currency while an occupied people watch their savings devalued.

this area is in for a double tap- the blackmarket will go corporate, and the very private currency used in that market will be worthless- better to focus on getting hard currency than us garbage. The next free areas will be able to figure out their own currencies- if all the hippy grow bullshit was worth a shit, some humdums would trade with pressed coins of value- the Pound could be a great currency for here and could be a one ounce coin of 22kt gold.

so much money, too many bullshit toyotas, fake ass carharts that are clean, too many stickers on back glass- too much acting cool when seeds could have been planted to grow a much better harvest than the subverted one we see now breaking into cars in eureka.

The reason I object to federal government intervention in state matters is because it is contrary to the US Constitution, specifically the 10th Amendment.

The reason I object to county government intervention in state matters is because it is contrary to the CA Constitution, specifically Health & Safety Code 11362.5.

No inconsistency here.

Mr. Nice,
As always you are informative and cogent.

But I wasn’t really speaking about the law though–legal law that is. Moral law or just plain fairness is what makes me uncomfortable here. The LAW may or may not be on one side or the other, but what matters to me is the ethical implications. If one wants local control for marijuana, then consistently, one should want it all cases. Let’s say one believes that the federal government must regulate some obvious things like interstate commerce and highways but must cede control to the locals wherever possible (which on the surface seems to make sense–those most influenced by laws choose to enact what works for their mores) then we must cede the same power to the county over the state and the town over the county. At least for consistency’s sake, I would think so.

How can there be a federal government when it is insolvent? There can’t be- you are waiting for a man in a red suit on christmas eve to drop down your chimney.

Hey, don’t disabuse me. My stocking is always full on Christmas morning…For most of us, we deal only with what is in front. It is too much to look beyond what is readily apparent. If our stockings are full, then Santa Claus came (or a reasonable equivalent to him).
