You look strong in those photos Kym. Obviously all the horror in your system as you described in Little Boy Blue was eating at you, but you stayed strong for Malachi.

The photos of him strapped in are heartbreaking, even when we know the ending.

I love the last shot.

He truly is a miracle. I used to work neuro, and know what the outcome could have been. You are blessed. I’m glad this post is just pictures of that day, I was afraid it was more problems. ((((hugs))) for all of you.

What a magic grin. These photos really add to the story. They show a scary situation being handled competently by parents, neighbours and professionals. Malachi is lucky to have all of you around him. This is why I keep visiting your blog. Not just for the wonderful photography but for the sense of community which comes through in your evocative writing. And the love.

That grin reminds me of Opie from the Andie Griffith show.
Well we are all so relieved, now I can go back to my usual blogself….
In that picture of the fellas carrying him away, did a certain husband cut his hair off?
Probably just trying to look more like Ernie and me!

A certain husband keeps his scalp burnished so he can confound any enemies sneaking up from the rear.

So good to see that big grin back on his face! I see a little bruising around his eyes, but can’t see a crushed cheekbone.

Portraits of children may be the most difficult subject of all. “Grin” has been like a slide in my head all morning…. Great great pic. Gentle and penetrating. Knowing without the absence of questioning is how I’d begin to try and describe the expression, but words can’t come close to what you’ve captured.

I can’t believe all the photos people took of the ambulance ride and transfer to the helicopter. And a most beautiful photo and grin to finish it off. How long will it take for Malachi to fully recover? I’d be so afraid of reinjury.

The photos are pretty astounding I think. The top one I can’t look at without getting a lump in my throat. The one of the helicopter coming in is such an amazing juxtaposition of beauty and implied danger that it is a work of art. I love the final pic too. He is such a cutie rosy from the sun and, maybe a bit too much saturation;>

My community is one of the most supportive I know. We may vehemently disagree on subjects but…there is a basic understanding of how to step in and help that I see all the time. I am so lucky to live here.

There is some chance of re-injury no swings, slides or tree climbing for awhile. And we need to go back in for a checkup but overall, he’s looking great. We’re all settling down.

Hope he’ll remember to avoid those things. I’ve been trying to decide if the spot on his chin is leftover from the accident, or leftover from birthday cake!

Leftovers….There is a little raw spot under his nose from the oxygen and a scrape high on his cheek but other than that he is just grubby as usual.

It looks as if Malachi fell in style. I love the sparkly jacket he’s wearing in the top photo. I also love the beautiful area you live in.

Kym, did the strains come out of your new towels?

Surprisingly YES! While I was waiting to be able to fly out after the helicopter, I threw what I thought were both towels in the washer but when I came home there was still one in the car—BLEECH (and yet somehow invoking tender thoughts). But when I washed it, all came clean.

Yay! a Malachi photo at the end! Now I’ve just gotta see the kid in person, I know you say he’s fine, but I think at some point I’ll have to see and touch him for myself! What an amazing day, I know I was buzzing for days, I bet you still are. By the way, Robin thank you so much for being right there step for step, I was glad to have your steadiness backing me up. And Matt for all the communication with everyone else trying to get there. There are so many things that could have gone wrong, but it seems like everything went as smoothly as we could have prayed for. I was sitting on the couch that morning wondering why on earth there wasn’t some fabulous mother’s day plan being dispatched at my house, but who am I to question the universe? Most of the time we don’t ever know why our plans or wishes don’t work out, but on that day I can see clearly that there was some higher power at work in my life to have my butt firmly planted on the couch when you called! What a gift! Hugs and Kisses, Lisa

My husband told me about your post, so I knew that everything turned out well, but today when I read the story from beginning to end I wanted to cry. I can’t imagine how you were so calm in the face of such a tragedy. Your description put me in the barn with you. I wanted to find my children and give them a big hug, so that I could feel their wholeness. I am so relieved and happy that Malachi is alright. Thank you for ending with a photo of your beautiful boy enjoying life. I really appreciate how kids can rebound from a horrible incident, so much faster than we adults can.
