Piping up about Blogs in Humboldt

After reading The Bitten Apple’s post about how delighted she was to find Myrtletown’s list of Humboldt County blogs, I realized that many people might not be aware of this incredibly comprehensive list of local sites or my favorite way to keep up with Northcoast bloggers–The Northcoast Journal’s Humboldt Blogs Pipes.

The last source allows you to with one click access the latest posts by some of the most talked about nearby bloggers.  It works like a feed giving the reader the title, the author, and first few lines of each post and providing a link. For example, here is the most recent entries at the time of this writing:

The photo is by my wife Janis, my favorite photographer in the whole world. Her pictures ain’t bad either. The photo is a huge file, so you can click on it and make it enormous, she took the picture for me …

  • The NC Journal’s Pipes is not an all inclusive list–some of my favorite local blogs aren’t on it–including The Redneck Romance Writer and The Ranch on Salmon Creek but, as a whole, an excellent variaty of Humbolt County bloggers are represented.  Keeping up on local concerns is easy now.

My rule is “at least 51 percent about Humboldt County.” If it were just by Humboldt County people, none of us would ever get any work done.

I didn’t know about the Salmon Creek Ranch blog. Added!

Also, the old Pipes have been officially hollowed out, and will go away sometime soon. Right now the old Pipe is powered by a feed generated by the North Coast Journal‘s robotic intern, who is actually way more efficient and up-to-the-minute than Yahoo. ‘Cause most of the time he has nothing else to do.

You can get the new anti-Pipe feed directly this URL. Update your bookmarks!

Last week I unsubscribed to the pipes because the feed was so slow. Good to know you fixed it.

BTW, Hank do you have a list of all the blogs covered on the Blogwatch? I did that one from memory (jogged by looking at the pipes) but I’ll bet I missed some.

Thanks for the heads up. It had been eaten but I forced the guard dog to release your comment.

I missed so many! Thank you for the info. I’m betting quite a few people don’t know about some of these blogs.

What’s it take to get Sims to list your blog?

What’s it take to get Sims to list your blog?

Well, I had to grease the Wheels with Hank, and that was about $2500 in cold cash.

Now Joe, I am surprised to see you posting a comment here. You do realize Kym is under that “rock” you speak of when describing So Hum people?

    Joe,
I think it takes posting about Humboldt. Hank says 51% of the content should be Humboldt related.

Boy, but my rock has lace curtains!

Is that your drawing, Kym? At first I thought it was a mining prospector, but then I saw the title, “Man with Flute.” Is there no end to your talents? From what I can tell you’re a photographer, artist, homesteader, blackbelt and ordained minister, and apparently that’s just scratching the surface!

    I forgot to add “writer.”

No, that isn’t mine. That is M. R. Robinson’s the main person I interviewed in last week’s NC Journal. I love his work–particularly his drawings though his paintings are so rich and full detail that I want to steal one and bring it home. I did the next best thing and photographed some of his work.

I love your blog, Kym. From here, I found “The Boy Most Likely To…” and “Chocolate Covered Xanax” which are two of my favorites.
I’m also a huge fan of The Humboldt Mirror.
I think I have an over inflated fear of being stalked. LOL. Otherwise, I’d talk about Humboldt county all the time.

Jen, I know your blog is about reaching out to your readers and fellow romance writers but my favorite parts are when you write about here–although I love all your Monday rants no matter what they are about. They crack me up.

Kym, did you crawl back under that rock again? I thought Branscomb had a lock on that.

Boy, you mean to say you think I have a low opinion of Southern Humboldt people, considering the fact that I grew up in Southern Humboldt? Maybe he’s right. I just might be violating one of my principles.
