Humboldt County: The Movie
Humboldt County?
For all the aspiring screenwriters who are writing the ‘real’ story about Humboldt County, your window of opportunity has closed. Someone thinks they’ve got the big hit here. The film debuted last Friday at SXSW film festival in Austin, TX.
The movie proposes to tell the story of a medical student who “loses his way,” comes to Humboldt with a beautiful model, and finds some ‘answers.’
I’m reserving judgment until I see the production but, being in love with the area, I do like this quote, “”In the film, the environment of Humboldt serves to seduce the protagonist, to really … bring him into this place emotionally”
One of the two directors supposedly has family in the area. Aunt Laura even has a blog. According to the website, she’s a beautiful older lady who has lived here a long time. I don’t recognize her, though, she looks vaguely familiar.
Rose left a flabbergasted comment on Aunt Laura’s blog so I know she’s seen it but, surprisingly, I haven’t heard a peep about it until today.
UPDATE: Whoops, North Coast Journal had this and I saw it. I just didn’t click the link. Sorry guys.

Trailer looks decent…could be good…for the non-Humboldt people like myself, anyways, but maybe not for the locals. Always difficult to get a script like this right so it reflects the spirit of the community while offering a compelling story to everyone else.

Almost sounds like Michael J. Fox opus “Doc Hollywood”…well, not exactly like it, but close enough for me.
A doctor and a model?
Um. I will reserve judgement.
[not really, cough cough cough]

Oh that is Fairuza. That is funny, she and I are related though not by blood I did not know she was in this.
Okay, the film looks better than I thought it would I will for true withhold judgement.

Well that is a real compliment Fairuza is beautiful but any resemblance is pretty coincidental we are related through a string of marriages and divorces it would take the Pope a while to untangle.

Okay, I watched the trailer. Why does it seem so much like a rerun??? I wonder if I met them at Reggae on The river?

Hey, that’s Peter Bogdanovitch at the beginning, isn’t it? They must be well connected .

I thought the trailer and the website hinted at a decent quality. I’d like to at least check it out.

Making trailers is an art form and in some cases, I would rather watch the trailer again than the film but it bodes well for the film if the trailer is good and this one is pretty good.

Some trailers use the only good lines in the movie. Then when I see the movie, I’ve already seen the good stuff.

Max…. Marny Friedman is an extra in this flick. I think it was mostly shot up north somewhere. We should do a movie about Astrinsky’s… no one would believe it. Better than the biker bar scene in PeeWee’s Big Adventure (one of the ten greatest movies ever made.) In my humble opinion.

Most of this was filmed in Soho, but the end (that I play an extra in), was filmed in Trinidad at the Inn on the side road. I was in a scene w Peter Bogdonavitch & the lead guy, that I don’t recognize. Everyone was really nice! Izora

Have you had a chance to see the completed film? If so did you like it?

I’ll have to ask Chris when they plan to bring it to the Garberville theater.

Fairuza definately looks like a prostitute in this film with all those ugly tattos . You can’t hide the look of a whore when you got that many tattos.
She’s pretty good for an actress but she’ll never make it BIG looking like a hooker or drug dealer .

Tatooing, while not for me, is becoming as common place as pierced ears. When my mother was young, women who pierced their ears were considered “fast.” Today nearly every woman and even some men have ear piercings. I don’t follow Fairuza’s career and don’t know whether the tats are part of the act or real but many people find them attractive.
