Help Identify an Unknown Bush
flower
This flowering wild bush grows on a well drained rocky ridge. It is about 5 ft tall and 15 ft around. It has just started blooming and I have never been able to identify it. Help, please! For overview, see more.

Well, don’t tell anybody where it is, or they will come with their machete’s and chop it up as an invasive non-native species.
Other than that I’m clueless.

I don’t know what it is, but it certainly has a delicate lacy flower. Does it have a scent?

LMAO Ernie!!!!
I asked the Redneck if he knew. Nope, not familiar. Can’t help you. I’m hopeless when it comes to flowers and trees and such. I do hope someone knows.

Found this link. Maybe it will work.

Nobody better mess with this one. It is quite sweet (and it looks native the way it is growing on the ridge in the middle of nowhere.) it doesn’t have a big scent.
Jen, Thanks for the link. I didn’t find anything but the link is excellent and I’ve bookmarked it for future identification problems.

Kym… The leaves are in peculiar clusters. I am clueless and I’ve identified a lot of plants. Serpentine soils host some unusual and rare plants. Maybe this one is something special. You only mention one plant. Are there more? We always drive the loop later in the spring when the Meadowfoam is out and there is Pterixia growing by the road near your place. It is a low plant with yellow umbel type flowers. There’s a low growing mountain lilac with blue flowers by the road up toward Ken Swinnock’s old place. I’ve never seen it anywhere else.

The leaves appear to cluster similar to a rhododendron but they aren’t glossy enough. I have a shrub identification book you can have. Remind me the next time you come by.

There are two plants on a rather barren ridge by my house. If you are coming up, Ben, let me know and I’ll take you to see it. There are some more mountain lilacs between Del and Colleen’s and David Booth’s.
The leaves on the unknown shrub cluster almost like a lilac, I think. I’ll borrow that book and see if it helps.

I think Myrna’s right. Both the leaves and the flowers look rhodie/azalea-ish to me. And azalea leaves aren’t shiny.

I’m going to take a twig with me to Eureka tomorrow and see if I can’t get an identification. I couldn’t find it in Mom’s book

Hi,
I used to live in a townhouse that had this in the backyard. I never could identify it. I am still looking.
Was it in northern California or somewhere else? That might help us identify it.
