Or maybe it is a waiting list of people trying to get into the nursing program.

One of the trade offs of living in our beautuful amazing area.
People here do lots of self care not just out of desire for better health but out of necessity
Heres how you get into Open Door clinic system, for one.
Spend the 120 and go to their urgent care after hour clinic in Eureka. Go for a cough, a pulled muscle, whatever.
Its not an ER but more a clinic for folks who cant get to the doctor office during “business hours”.
Once seen at that spot you will be in the open door system as a patient. You can.then see who you need and use your insurance.
Yes its obvious its ridiculous but thats how the game is played right now. We are super lucky to have clinics that figure out these loopholes to help people!!!
St joes are the worst.
Tho if you pay in cash that day at St Joes imaging center for an xray its 60% off, if you dont have insurance or have highco-pay the cash route is cheaper.
If you need a doctor this may not be the place to live. Explore better self care, there are often free classes about such things. Be willing to travel to other parts of the county for care.
A very overweight friend (no offense intended) moved to no hum and the doctor she saw straight told her you need to lose weight asap, beyomd your health we dont have resources to help people like you in this county.
Harsh but true.
So health care for a pot smoker, vaper, drug addiction, alcoholic, reckless driver, prisoners, anti vaxxer but death for a fat person? Yes that’s pretty harsh. With friends like that…
What, there’s not quality health care for anyone in this county. You’d be well advised to do your best to minimize your need for health care if you choose to live here. Not being severely overweight is a great place to start and all Dr’s should recommend that strongly to all of their patients.
If the doctor phrased it like that, that doctor is a jerk, right or wrong, and should be reprimanded at the very least. The doctor could have conveyed the same message in a much less judgmental way.
‘beyond your health we don’t……..’ a sounds fine to me, obesity is not necessarily a medical issue. exercise and diet are personal commitments for better health. no one can do it for you.
So true! Rural medicine will eventually be clinics only. Gone are the days of private doctors, and private dentists are not far behind. The cost of becoming either and opening a practice far outweighs the income that can be earned and is getting worse with time, and rural private practices cannot charge or produce enough for the profit needed to offset those costs to attract doctors or dentists unless they are willing to exchange income level for peace and a better life. A doctor told us 20 years ago that he did not know a single private doctor who had successfully sold his practice. Haven’t found any left in Humboldt. Appreciate your private dentist if you have one.
BTW, I’m guessing the doctor probably used a bette approach but, good for him, he apparently got the message across. Non-rural communities not only have more resources and doctors, they get a lot more experience dealing with the serious stuff. Such is the price of living here so enjoy it while you can, we are the lucky ones.

It’s actually no better in the city. My mom had to wait 6 months to see a specialist in Santa Rosa about an urgent health problem.
