[UPDATE 9:52 a.m.: Another Quake~!] Quake Offshore West of Ferndale
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) is reporting that a 5.4 quake rolled out this morning at 7:08 a.m.
The Quake was located west of Ferndale, offshore about 98 miles from the Victorian village.
In spite of how far west it was, multiple people on social media reported feeling a shake. Did you?
UPDATE 7:37 a.m.: The USGS is now reporting this as a 4.9 quake AND, reporting that it was closer to land than previously reported. This is now reported to be approximately 60 miles west of Ferndale.
UPDATE 9:52 a.m.: Another quake (the third this morning) occurred offshore at 9:35 a.m. USGS is reporting it as a 3.6. Click here for more.

They are actually reporting two almost simultaneous quakes off the coast. The 5.4 and 4.9. There was also a much smaller one closer to the coast at 5:11AM 2.7ish. Here in northern interior Mendo, the 7:08 ones were a jolt and then a slight roll.
I don’t know where you’re getting your information from, but the USGS only lists one at 7:08 which is the 4.9.
And yes, felt near Briceland.
Never got an alert from the MyShake app, guess it was too far away. 🤷♂️

Sometimes what happens, and looks like what might have happened now, is that they post the initial “stats” for a quake and then quickly update it to a more accurate reading of magnitude and location. So those two dots are the same quake, one more accurate than the other is my understanding.
Yes, I know it is not uncommon for them to correct information after initial reports. The KTLA site says they get their info from the USGS, I guess they have not corrected it – it still shows two. I thought it very odd that there could be two at the same moment, but I am not a geologist, so?
I felt it. I am in south east corner of county at a 1500 ft elevation. There was a whomp whomp and no more, shook the house
Not felt in Blue Lake.
Slept right through it
A gentle reminder.. the Cascadia quake could happen any time.
Does everyone have lots of drinking water stored? Other supplies? Don’t expect infrastructure to be normal..
Nor expect wifi or cel service to be available. Get a hand crank or battery radio and tune in to KMUD as their news team is on it during emergencies, basically Kym in radio form. Its my understanfing that Kym, the KMUD news team and other reporters in our region share info during emergencies. I very very much appreciate that!!
Get yoursrlf ready to be stuck at home, no ones gonna do it for you and we are not a top priority in a large scale disaster, we need to be prepared to use our local resources.

I call it stress relief insurance, I take it for granted I can get up to date reliable info especially in an emergency situation like last winter in So Hum.
Aaaahhhh yyaawwwwnn. Huh? Wha?
Near Eur High School.
https://scedc.caltech.edu/recent/ Caltech is the most accurate source of local earthquake info, in my opinion
You mean more accurate than the place that they get their data from and the place that has the last say in the location/time/magnitude?
