Another Fire Burning in Northern Humboldt–This One in the Pecwan Area
About 2:11 p.m., Cal Fire received word that a fire was burning off Hwy 169 in the McKinnon Hill Road area between Pecwan and Martin’s Ferry in northern Humboldt County.
According to Jeremy Ward, Fire Captain Specialist, as of 3:15 p.m. the fire was about an acre and growing very slowly.
“We did dispatch all the aircraft in the unit–the air attack, one air tanker, and one helicopter,” he told us.
Firefighters are making good progress and expect to have the fire contained relatively soon and under full control by late this evening, Ward said.

Fire bugs are heavy in that area now..
Fire in the over grown forests is a good thing. The Forest Service should be doing more fuel reduction. Tribes have been using fire forever to manage their land.
Yes they have but not this time of year. The USFS could definitely learn from history. Burn in the fall
What Northwest said.
fire is a bad thing… 100 degree weather its kind of a no brainer. Go firefighters!
The traditional way of controlled burning, it was in the fall, just before the rains were ready to come in…They would burn just the areas that were getting hard to travel through because of brush, manzaita, and whitethorn, and shrubs like that. When they’re small, they’ll burn hot and fast, but not hot enough to really damage.

This fire is not on USFS land. The forest service always seems like they are burning somewhere in the fall, winter and spring!
That is not a good area to burn – very heavy understory fuels.
