I live on Thiel two blocks down. The block they have closed off is pretty much straight middle class, cones in the street when kids are out, etc. Not a methy house on the block. Lots of American flags and big newer Dodge trucks though.

Ton of cops standing around chatting with residents.

No.

It’s already illegal to do what this man did.

That’s why he’s in custody.

At this point, with so many shots fired at the persons neighbor, shouldn’t the police have stepped up operations. The only reason not to is if there are possibly others in the residence with the shooter, hostages, family, but no mention in the reports. It seems they would know if there was by now. Maybe not, but still. All the times the police use teargas when it’s not appropriate, and here you got a situation where it’s totally appropriate. Just earlier today a friend and I were reminiscing about a time when a mentally deranged wacko opened fire on us and had us pinned down for 30 minutes before realizing we weren’t who he thought we were. It’s a really bad feeling. Pray for the neighbor.

On edit; I guess the police could also have assessed that no one was in danger, the neighbor isn’t home and trying to establish a line of communication is the best thing to do. I tend to react harshly to situations like the above.

Why don’t you go to the police academy and get hired by a law enforcement agency, get several years of experience, then comment about what should be done? As it stands no one was hurt and the suspect is in custody. Sounds like a win for everyone. Commenting on a subject you are likely not experienced in is just ridiculous. BTW, I do have two decades of experience and retired so I do know.

You’re right I probably shouldn’t have commented as I know nothing about policing. And yes it worked out for the good. Sorry if I offended you.

F*ck that. You’re entitled to question the police. And you’re entitled to have your own opinions, just like everyone else. No apology necessary.

No they shouldn’t. However, they should mandate gas tank capacity and engine size. Nobody NEEDS a 15 gallon gas tank and a 6 cylinder engine. Also, cars should be stored in a locked, CalTrans approved garage when not in use. Gasoline should be stored separately, in a locked CalEPA approved container.

Also, any violation of the law that involves a car should be punished by permanent loss of driving privileges. Driving or possessing a motor vehicle after your license has been suspended should be a felony, likewise possession of gasoline.

Now, about red flag laws; there should be a special DMV hotline that you can call if you suspect that a family member or coworker might be thinking about exceeding the speed limit. And we need to ban cars in all public places.

Only then will we be able to stop drunk driving.
