About 4:10 p.m., a motorcyclist not wearing a helmet fled law enforcement in the McKinleyville area. The officer pursued and requested CHP assistance.

According to a witness, after heading down Halfway Road, the motorcyclist laid down the bike on Gassaway Road just before McKinleyville Avenue ab. It’s unclear whether this was an accident or a purposeful move.

They could pop people all day and night on Halfway Ave! Dirt bikes, ATV’s, stupid a-holes going 45+MPH and a couple wannabe “biker gangsters” doing 60+ MPH! I really appreciate seeing the sheriff and CHP on our road anytime. Not to mention the illegal mortars and other fireworks from Yamaha court.

My street is home to a MC club and their shop. Wheelies, burnouts & high speed runs are pretty frequent. Law enforcement has proven to be entirely uninterested. As it is a residential area, CHP says “not our jurisdiction” & the sheriff says, “we don’t do traffic”.

I can see whining about speeding vehicles, there are a lot of kids around. However, I wouldn’t waste your time complaining about people enjoying their toys on Yamaha. That will backfire on you.

The helmit law is stupud. If you go down it only makes a difference between an open closed casket. The legislator passed the law without allowing the public to vote. Just another example of are communist state thinking they no what is best for you.

The sheriff is allowing guys caught with 6 pounds of heroin to drive away. And yet here they are setting up a dangerous pursuit over a helmet?! I would say their priorities are very wrong and they need to be examined, possibly defunded.

My first thought immediately. I still can’t get over that. Hammer the cannabis growers while ticketing heroin smugglers that they most likely will never, ever see again.

All other facts aside, including those on what defines communism or representative democracy or any other economic or governmental model you can think of, the way that our system works is that you vote for the legislator, and the legislator votes on proposed laws. Many legislators, and many citizens, actually think up and write the language of those proposed laws. You also have the option, of course, of putting together a state initiative to roll back the helmet law. If you can get enough signatures by the deadline, you can then get everybody in the state to vote on whether or not to require motorcyclists to wear helmets. Let me know if you need that explained in smaller words. Happy to help.

But many jurisdictions pass ordinances that set enforcement priorities. When they feel the police need guidance. You can set the helmet law as “lowest priority” at a local level. Unfortunately there are too few people interested in doing that and so this gross mis-prioritization will continue. For me it represents the bad judgement and heavy-handedness of some police. While the same sheriff’s office is allowing people carrying 6 POUNDS OF HEROIN to simply drive away I think it points loudly at a systemic failure. Your demeaning baby-talk does nothing to address any of this. Yes we know how laws get made, Professor BigHead….

Here’s some help too.

Mandated street helmets are insurance industry demands. They didn’t ask for permission.

Dirt bike helmets are mandated by DMV for minors.

I wear a helmet 100% of my time while riding.

A helmetless motorcyclist on the street with no registration is no biker.

There wasn’t half the stink about being forced to wear a helmet, then folks are making over wearing a face mask!

How much longer will we allow Cops to pursue Motorcyclists in High Speed Pursuits for small infractions of the law? How many more dead motorcyclists will the coroner have to clean up off the street before California passes a “due not pursue except for violent felony crimes” law. All these crashes in pursuit and pumped up cops shooting people in these chases stem from this predator behavior cops possess of “if it runs, chase it”… Lets bring some sanity to this subject, is it acceptable to chase down every car that doesn’t pull over, why is it a necessity? especially for crimes like helmet laws which should be up to the individual anyways. Why cant license plates be taken and tickets sent by mail, why do police really need to pull is over and talk to us?? This is 2020, license plate recognition technology exists, tickets could be sent electronically by mail. Why not?

No. We need police we don’t need more stupid cameras watching our every move
Wake up
What’s wrong with someone who wants to be in law enforcement? There’s more to being a officer than just writing tickets.
Nope. If ya don’t like cops, you are probably doing something wrong your self.

You haven’t fully thought this through, have you? If the police cannot pursue then no one would pull over. If they can’t pull you over and positively identify you they cannot charge you with a vehicle code violation, only a civil penalty like from a red light camera (no points on your driver’s license). If they cannot assign vehicle code violations then everyone’s insurance rates increase, not just the people who have terrible driving records.

Additionally, if you know they aren’t going to pursue, why would anyone put a license plate on their bike? They can’t chase you, they can’t identify you, and they can’t track the bike. Thus, anyone can do anything on a motorcycle with impunity. Yeah, great idea.

For those who aren’t motorcyclists, this guy Crashed, looks like he hit the dirt/gravel on the driveway and low sided.

And in my 51 years of street riding, I can say for a fact, ONLY Harley riders ‘Lay ‘er Down’, and thats no Harley.
