Wedding Guests Call OES to Report Planned Ceremonies

Covid WeddingPress release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:

Since March 20 of this year, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and both State and Local Health Officer Orders, gatherings of individuals outside of the household unit have not been permitted. In spite of this, numerous individuals identifying themselves as invited wedding guests have contacted the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services to voice their concerns about two ceremonies in particular scheduled for the next two weekends, one in Petrolia and one in Ferndale.

These reports were received via the Joint Information Center’s Community Information Line, with additional reports made through the COVID Compliance Line. In response to both, and under the direction of the Emergency Operations Center, code enforcement officers reached out to family members to remind them that holding these gatherings is both illegal and dangerous.

As noted by Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich, “We all understand the desire to celebrate occasions such as weddings with family and friends. However, just as high school seniors had to sacrifice traditional graduation ceremonies, these types of large gatherings simply cannot occur. We are in a pandemic and the potential for not only a large number of guests to become infected but for these individuals to then expose many more people in our community, is enormous. There is simply no way for Public Health to conduct timely contact investigations and limit disease spread when hundreds of people are exposed at one time.”

Law enforcement is aware and will be reaching out to the individuals involved, and enforcement action will be taken if these events proceed. Frankovich added, “I am hopeful that civic-minded residents of Humboldt will reconsider offering and attending such events until it is possible to hold them without violating the law and endangering the safety of the guests and the residents of Humboldt County.”

FYI, that graph needs a bit of revision. Get your facts straights. Whoever published it modified it to make it into propaganda. The BLM protests didn’t start til after George Floyd’s murder on May 25. Any resultant Covid cases would not have shown up until early June, and the chart shows the protests ending before the end of May.

The graph shows the protest starting around the 28th of May and going to about the 12th of June. About spot on.

Hmmmm. The graph shows the protests beginning around 5/29, which was right around when they started to take off after Floyd’s murder . . . and it shows a significant upturn in cases on 6/13, just about two weeks later. That looks pretty much accurate to me.

Looks like it’s about time for these folks to have a protest themed wedding! Get lots of friends to take shifts and hold signs and block the parking lot of the venue… I can go into Costco, or Safeway, or to a very packed protest in town… Or go to the city and being a Whole Foods with lots of people I don’t know… Some places I can go to the gym, if we can all go to those places with a mask… There should be no reason why these folks shouldn’t have a small intimate ceremony with their friends and family. So to these folks I say, make your signs and create a protest themed wedding!

Don’t need a protest. Protests are not protected by the Bill or Rights. There is no Right to Protest. There is absolutely a Right to Peacefully Assemble. It is not defined and for good reason. You can peacefully assemble for anything. Read the First Amendment and then show me where it defines the right to assemble, or any constraints put on that right, besides the peaceful part. Then please show me where in the Bill of Rights the clause of the Right to Protest falls under?

Actually its the right to peacefully assemble. In the first amendment there is no right to protest. There is the right to peacefully assemble, and the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances. Through those two clauses the right to protest is inferred, though not explicitly stated in the Bill of Rights. However, the right to peacefully assemble is explicit, and not defined, meaning that we have the right to assemble for anything as long as its peaceful. The majority of those protests were not protected by the bill of rights because they became violent. Weddings certainly are though. They should just have their wedding, its explicitly protected by the founding document of this country.

That’s right, they should be able to peacefully spread a virus around the community and possibly cause the death of people who didn’t go or even know them. I think that makes a lot of sense.
If it’s possible that you might kill someone by attending is that still peaceful, especially if you were warned.
Let’s fast forward a few weeks after the event, a thought experiment.
Let’s say someone shows up to the wedding and infects several people.
Now let’s say one of those people comes across a close vulnerable relative of yours that had nothing to do with the wedding.
Now let’s say your relative doesn’t make it.
Now was it worth it?
Seriously would you still feel the same way?

Still would feel the same. It would’ve been that relative’s choice to come. The world is a dangerous place, get over it. There is no guarantee of safety once in the public.

Hawk do you feel this way about the protesting that happened? Is that okay to assemble but a wedding isn’t. Too many people bend the rules for what they think is okay. Time to stop being “conveniently scared” when it doesn’t suit you. If you are vulnerable stay home.

They used to say that to err is human, to really foul things up takes a computer. I guess they never heard of politicians, including governors, mayors, health officers and unfortunately our local Sheriff. They are all useless dictators. I say if you want to get married, invite anyone you please. Allowing protests, riots, crowds at shopping centers, casinos, and other places, but not weddings is discrimination. Laws require lawmaker approval. None of this crap has gone through the legislature.

Call it a protest wedding, give each guest a sign to write on. Protest, destroy property, all is fine. Try to have a normal life and you are punished, life in America is changing quick. So sad for the grandkids, they will be paying for this stupidity long after we are gone.

Are people no longer allowed to make up their own minds and make their own choices in this country? Any of the “invitees” to said wedding can make up their own mind whether to go or not. It’s their choice.

This goes so much deeper than a virus. We have health department “snitches” in our midst, people that want to control everyone around them. I hated that idea from it’s very inception, it smells of a police state. Am I the only one who sees a problem with that? It’s all about health and safety you say, until one day someone snitches on you for something you decide to do. The thought that some people in this community are OK with snitching on regular citizens that are wanting to move forward with their lives makes my blood run cold.

To the “snitch” that turned in the people wanting to get married…….that’s just creepy, get some help.

I read that guests were calling OES… Don’t know why. They probably knew the answer.
The families attending are doing it their own risk. Which means they run the risk of losing a loved one from the disease. That would put a damper on the nups. That is all fine as long as any infected guests don’t stop anywhere else on the way! Don’t spit yer phlegm driving past my house! Traffic is already increasing out here. I might have postponed it, but still like the family and wish the kids the best.

If your having COVID only affected you, no big deal.

But because there aren’t tests readily available and any one of us could be asymptomatic and HAVE it and spread it it affects ALL OF US.

I’m not understanding why this concept is so difficult to understand.

The old saying is perfect in these circumstances: your personal liberty to swing your arm ends where my nose begins–your personal liberty ends when you can infect me.

That old saying is false. The public space is laden with inherent risk. When you go out into that public space you are consciously taking that risk and are ok with doing so. The consent is within the action. You can step on a nail and catch tetanus, catch a cold, flu, meningitis, hell there is even anthrax in the soil, maybe you catch covid. The “experts” have said covid lives on surfaces for 3 days. The “experts” say that it came from animals to humans, that animals have contracted it from humans, i.e. dog that died in China, tigers in the Bronx Zoo. For some reason though, we can’t catch it from animals, even though it supposedly came from an animal reservoir and animals can catch it from humans. Watch out dude, a bird could sneeze on you.

And to the first part of that statement, I can name a hundred different situations where the law would back up a person knocking the crap out of somebody, and a thousand more where the law won’t do anything at all in a physical altercation, ever here of mutual combat laws? We have them here in Cali. It all depends on time, place, and situation. I mean, you can walk down the middle of the street with a machete in your hand no problem. As soon as you step on my property and say something crazy enough to make me fear for my my life(you don’t have to be running at me swinging the machete, you just have to say something nuts), I am well within my rights to blow your ass away. In a lot of cases, my personal liberty to swing my arm may extend through where your nose begins, depending on the situation.

Which wedding guests were they? They would be uninvited from my wedding and would not be considered a friend or family anymore. What true pieces of crap shyster rats. Ok public health, go shit on people’s weddings but don’t break up the mass protests. You lost all credibility with that. We all don’t care anymore. There was a lot of us sitting back going “man this virus has a lot of unknowns, maybe we should be careful, but lets watch how the powers that be react to these massive protests that are starting to take place. All the protests should be shut down for fear of a ‘super spreader’ event.” The protests weren’t. They were allowed to take place, even encouraged, with photos of our own sheriff’s hugging people and hanging out without masks. We know this is a power play now for sure. There is no doubt anymore. Quit crapping on people’s lives just to flex your muscle. I thought we had the right to peacefully assemble? How is the right to peacefully assemble to protest any different than peacefully assembling for a wedding? Ya’ll have no credibility, shot yourselves in the foot, and all these lemmings are gleefully pissing away centuries of our ancestors work to bolster freedom, for a little bit of government “security.”

I find it funny how these people rail against Trump saying he is completely evil yet in the same sentence will basically say that we need to blindly trust the gov’t. Guess who is running the gov’t you morons?

The “government” includes Frankovich, includes Trump, Fauci, Pence, Ennis, Pompeo…some on the list offer a coherent strategy, some do not.
The results: the USA can’t kick the virus. Long after other countries have gotten the upper hand. What is the difference between them and us?
