Clearlake Man Arrested for DUI After Crash Closed 101 in Northern Mendocino Today
Press release from the CHP:
On 07/06/2020 at approximately 1238 hours, Ian Worley was driving his 1982 Toyota Pickup southbound on US 101 just north of Cummings Road in Mendocino County. Nelson Cuberli was driving a 2019 Hyundai Accent northbound on US 101 north of Cummings Road. For reasons still under investigation, Worley lost control of the Toyota and traveled across the dividing section and into the northbound lanes. The Toyota collided with the Hyundai and both vehicles came to rest within the northbound lanes.
Ian Worley was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol before he was taken to the Mendocino County Jail. Nelson Cuberli sustained minor injuries as result of the collision and was transported to Howard Memorial Hospital.
US 101 was closed at Cummings Road for approximately 2 hours for scene investigation and vehicle recovery. All traffic was diverted into the Cummings Road On and Off Ramps.
Caltrans, Calfire, Leggett and Laytonville Volunteer Fire Departments, Laytonville Ambulance and McCaffrey’s Towing assisted with traffic control and vehicle recovery. This collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Garberville Area.

Great! He’s got a guy from Mexico with him? Is he here on vacay? Are we under shelter-in-place orders?
wow !
Your name suits you.
Must have been a slow news day?
It was an alcohol-fueled head on collision that closed 101 . That’s news . There by the grace of God go I.
I’m sorry no name person, but it said:
“arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol before he was taken to the Mendocino County Jail.”
With “suspicion” being the key word and no blood alcohol results. And, they diverted traffic on 101 right off and back on 101, no big deal. Again, must have been a slow news day…
I’m curious, Ed. You almost never comment on these types of stories. In fact, I can’t ever remember it. Do you know the driver? He lives roughly in your area.
I report on these types of stories at least once a week. Every press release that comes out from the CHP gets posted to the best of my memory.
“He lives roughly in your area.” No, don’t know either person at all and Clearlake is not “roughly” in my area, just as much as Rio Dell is “roughly” in your area and you must know everyone there? But thanks for asking.
I would say Rio Dell/Fortuna/Ferndale/Leggett/Alderpoint is roughly in my area.
But I’m still curious what caused you to snipe on this particular article?
It has nothing to do with the Eel River your usual passion –all others the GSD, the Matteel, the Community Park are outgrowths of that.
I post several of these types of stories every week. Why act like it’s weird on this one?
I guess there’s a first time for everything, all though I would not call it a “snipe”! It was just a comment, nothing more. Your headline does not say “suspicion” of DUI, like the press release did. Guess we will never know if he was charged or not or the final outcome. However, your readers already made up their minds before knowing all the facts, just say’n. When my Dad was killed, the newspaper article said he had ran a red lite, which caused the accident. We found out later, this is what the other driver told the PD. Of course, later we proved my Dad had a green lite and the other driver ran a red lite at 73 MPH and hit Dad, killing him instantly. He was found guilty of vehicular manslaughter and serviced 8 years. Funny thing, the Mercury News never published that story…
Arrested for DUI doesn’t mean convicted. I often use the term along with “says the HCSO” to indicate this is an allegation not a conviction.
Hi Ed
MADD is an acronym for MOTHERS AGAINST DRUNK DRIVING .
We are united in raising awareness about the stupidy and danger of driving drunk.
MADD is an organization that has advocated for stricter laws about underage drinking, and drinking and driving, in an attempt to reduce problems associated with both. MADD also serves victims, families, and survivors of drunk driving crashes and tragic deaths.
MADD was founded on September 5, 1980, in California by Candace Lightner after her 13-year-old daughter, Cari, was killed by a drunk driver.
In that time MADD has helped to cut drunk driving deaths in half, saved around 350,000 lives, and helped more than 850,000 victims.
Be nice if no one ever got behind the wheel intoxicated , but that’s unlikely, and also why incidents like this are still “news.”
That’s a shame. How’s the truck?
