Both Lanes of New Navy Base Road Closed Because of Vehicle Fire

Vehicle fire featureAbout 8:32 p.m., a vehicle caught on fire on New Navy Base Road near Samoa Pulp Lane, according to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page. We have one report that the vehicle is a red Ford Focus.

Speaking on the radio, the Incident Commander reported that the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

“I’ve got heavy traffic,” reported a firefighter over the scanner. Soon after the Incident Commander said both lanes of New Navy Base Road were being closed.

At that point half of Eureka was out on the Samoa Peninsula.
California fireworks restrictions have no effect.
Mortars, skyrockets, roman candles lighting up the sky over the beach.
Coming back to Eureka… same thing. Mortars over the roofs. Firecrackers.
At this point… I just wonder… why bother ?

Appears everyone had their own firework show, excellent way of social distancing, thanks for the free show.

Agreed, we could see Samoa from the backyard, clear skies up on Humboldt Hill
