Humboldt County Urges Cannabis Employers to Encourage Staff to Get Free COVID-19 Tests

Cannabis and Covid tips

The Humboldt County Joint Information Center has released a handy information sheet for the cannabis industry during the COVID-19 Crisis. In it, they suggest employers encourage staff to participate in free COVID testing.

They note that employees that carpool with others should “always wear a mask and keep windows open to improve vehicle ventilation to the greatest extent possible.”

Last week, anonymous sources provided us with the information that nine workers at one Southern Humboldt cannabis farm had tested positive for COVID-19.

Though Dr. Teresa Frankovich, the Humboldt County Public Health Officer, declined to confirm this, speaking generally about cannabis farms, she did offer some information to those in the industry.

She said, “We want to make sure that whether they are legal or not legal operations, that they understand we’d like to work with them. Basically if they have someone sick, we’d like to be able to help work with them to get people tested and to really just make sure everyone around them is safe.”

At this point there are only the three places listed above available regularly but try calling the COVID hotline at (707) 441-5000 and ask if there are any additional testing places coming to your area.

I know somebody who went for that free test at Redwood Acres. They were told they needed their social security card. I haven’t seen my social security card for decades. Anyways who would feel good about having to supply their SSN? Or provide detailed identifying information? People in the weed game? I think not! So…if what I heard is true then I must call …bullshit on the county. Let people get tested if they show up. Quit using it as an information-harvesting opportunity…

Yes, Farce, you make a good point.

My Wife and I are septuagenarians. Many commenters on this site are also. Our own small sphere of influence, on a personal level, are unanimously agreed that going down to get tested ain’t in our best interest. Nobody is sick, luckily, and nobody wants to become a statistic either.

So, why make your personal health a public matter?

I could get hauled down to the death house if I were to be tested positive. That’s no way to die. I’ll continue to sleep in my own bed.

DMV demands a Social Security card to apply for a renewed license. Lost mine when I was 19 and at 73 haven’t had one since!

I have tested twice at Redwood Acres. Safe and no problem.

Redwood acres is currently backlogged to a 10 days wait to get a test and then 3 business days to get results. If a weekend falls in there your looking at 15 days to get results… how is that even worth doing? This is a huge problem.
