Marijuana Raid in Covelo Yesterday Found 17-Year-Old Girl, a Possible Victim of Human Trafficking, Said MCSO

A multi-agency raid on two locations side by side on the 77200 block of Crawford Road in Covelo, California took place on Wednesday, June 24. According to Mendocino County Sheriff Matt Kendall, deputies found a 17-year-old Spanish-speaking female who claimed to be from Salinas, California but who may have been the victim of human trafficking. He said deputies confiscated a shotgun, an AR-15, and eradicated 15,148 plants across two sites.

According to the MCSO’s press release, “[E]ight individuals were found on-site and detained.” The press release also described one person fleeing the scene who was later located by a helicopter crew and also “three more were detained after a high-risk felony stop off-site.”

Sheriff Kendall reported the 17-year-old female denied being human trafficked, but Sheriff Kendall expressed believing otherwise. He explained, “[S]he obviously wasn’t from Covelo. She didn’t know anyone from Covelo.” He said, “I absolutely believe she was human trafficked” and expressed concern that “there are many things a child cannot consent to.” He stated, “[I]t is dangerous for any child to be in an armed encampment, and the fact that this was a juvenile female causes even greater concern.”

The press release detailed that “the juvenile was transferred to the care of the Mendocino County Child Protective Services Agency for her own safety. An investigation has opened to determine whether the juvenile onsite was a victim of sex and/or labor trafficking.”

Sheriff Kendall said the marijuana farms were targeted by law enforcement because of their lack of permits and reports of environmental violations.

Sheriff Kendall confirmed pictures of helicopters sent into Redheaded Blackbelt were assisting in eradication efforts. He said the helicopters were being used to both haul plant material and insert personnel into strategic positions.

MCSO collaborated with the “Major Crimes Task Force, County Of Mendocino Marijuana Eradication Team, the Mendocino County Probation Office, the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency and California National Guard Counter-Drug Task Force personnel assigned to High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA)” when serving the two search warrants.

Here is the press release from the Mendocino County Sheriff Office’s Facebook page:

On June 24, 2020, The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Major Crimes Task Force, County Of Mendocino Marijuana Eradication Team, the Mendocino County Probation Office, the Federal Drug Enforcment Agency and California National Guard Counter-Drug Task Force personnel assigned to High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), served two search warrants at two location side by side on the 77200 block of Crawford Road in Covelo, CA.

At the conclusion of the search, a total of 15,148 plants were discovered and eradicated, 2 firearms which include one AR15 assault rifle. Eight individuals were found on-site and detained, including a 17-year-old female juvenile from Salinas. One person fled the scene but was located by the helicopter crew and three more were detained after a high-risk felony stop off-site.

Because the juvenile was located on the property without any legal guardian, didn’t know anyone else on the property, had no friends or family living close by, and didn’t speak English, the juvenile was transferred to the care of the Mendocino County Child Protective Services Agency for her own safety. An investigation has opened to determine whether the juvenile onsite was a victim of sex and/or labor trafficking.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office says, “We’ll be issuing a more detailed statement in the coming days.”Covelo marijuana greenhouse MCSO Covelo marijuana trash MCSO Covelo marijuana greenhouse MCSO

Was it an M16 or an AR15? Because unless it was a select fire weapon with full auto or burst capabilities it’s not an “assault weapon”

Same old talking point. You do realize that definitions can change over time based on common vernacular?

The gun industry set themselves up for it though. The guns were originally marketed as “assault weapons” to civilians. The retcon has been going on for decades now and the manufacturers and certain gun lovers would like everyone to forget that, but the guns were referred to as such at one time as a selling point. Around the same time that the “Man Card” ads were out.

edited to add: Before anyone calls me anti-gun…my favorite of ours is a Remington 700, the Holland & Holland 300 mag. It’s a great elk gun and as far as guns go, its a beauty. We also have a 7mm Mag and a few others and a couple shotguns. The AR-15 and all the tacticool guns are just ugly.

Funny story, when my husband first talked about getting the H&H I just about had a cow, because I thought he meant an actual Holland & Holland. I already knew about them and knew they cost as much as a new truck or more. Some even go for more than a house.

Yep it’s possible to be ok with guns but not OK with assault rifles. Real hunter only needs one shot.
Get those guns out of our popular culture, along with shitty grows like this and the idiots that come along with them.

All of this. That’s the worst part (well aside from the killing and wounding and “badass” attitude that seems to go with them, and anything “tacticool”)…the worst part is these numbnuts are going to hurt those of us who hunt or live out in the sticks because people in general will think all gun owners are like that and the inevitable gun restrictions will hurt every gun owner who isn’t a gun nut or needs to open carry their rifles to the capitol building or Starbucks.

Also, hope the young woman is going to be okay. I don’t think she’d be safe if she was sent back to the cartel country she obviously came from.

Nowhere does it say that our rights to firearms are for hunting . No but it does mention that we should be armed to protect ourselves from over reaching governments to include our own. So as long as military and police have such weapons we will always have assault weapons and or single shot versions of them. Thankfully what one person or several persons or even the vast majority of people like or don’t does not give them the right to remove other persons rights. One might even be able to state that those fearing others owning weapons are the type that which to impose themselves in a forceful manor either with passive aggressive rules or laws in an weak attempt to control others in a manor that would create a case where they would fear others being armed to the point they could refuse to be controlled .

This is the most hilarious take to me. “We need these tacticool weapons to defend ourselves against the “tyranny” of government.”

Like that would work in the first place….it never has before, just saying. I’ve seen too many “freedom fighters” go down n flames, literally, in one case, Robert Jay Matthews.

And the admittedly egregious shoot-out at Ruby Ridge (the Feds could have waited for Weaver to come to town)…the only justice and freedom was when Weaver, through the courts (government and citizens peacefully), was convicted of very minor charges and the compensation he got from the federal government.

As I said above, we actually own several guns. Not afraid of guns, but really freaking annoyed at the cosplay “militias” and “freedom” loving idiots who think an AR-15 makes them badasses. It isn’t fear, it’s a mocking disgust.

You might think our constitutional rights are hilarious. What I think is scary is people like you who have disdain for our constitutional rights. Yes the second amendment to the constitution was thought through by people way above your pay grade, who had experienced government tyranny and wanted Americans to have a way to fight back. Learn your history or ignorantly repeat it. Gun owners talking shit about other gun owners that have “ugly guns” is a joke. Quit drinking the kool aid before you become a total bootlicking shill.

Good luck fighting against the largest military in the world- let us know how that turns out for you. I agree that the second amendment refers to that ideal as opposed to arms for hunting. But when an amendment to the constitution becomes so ridiculous and pointless, and is used to argue in favor of gun industry talking points and mass murders and arming a populace that really doesn’t need it for any reason other than ‘the other guy is armed’ or they think guns are ‘cool’… that’s when an amendment has outlived its usefulness and should be AMENDED, like many other amendments over time.
That’s my opinion as a lifelong hunter and someone who was taught to respect guns from a young age. As useful tools not ego stroking toys.

China? (Twice the size of the US military. The armed US people are 20+ times the size of the Chinese military. )

Amended to what?

Perhaps not amended, but the 18th Amendment was repealed by the 21st Amendment.

The 2nd was an Amendment itself, and the Constitution is a “living” document, as it obviously allows for the…amending if it. Continuously.

The 18th amendment was put in place in a time when the 10th amendment was respected. It’s totally ignored now.

Willow creeker suggested amendment. I’d like to know to what. 2A is pretty darn clear except for those folks who don’t agree with the implications… there’s a strong cross over with those who think “hate” speech is not or should not be protected by the 1st Amendment.

Well regulated militia.

Also, Heller even acknowledged the right is not unlimited.

Also also, word games now? What’s next” The magazine vs. clip..”if you don’t know the difference you can’t talk about gun control” retort.

As Scalia himself said:

“Like most rights, the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited. [It is] not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.”

All that aside, the gun bunnies that LARP their fantasies are still to be mocked and I will continue to do exactly that.

Quick google search told me that China’s military spending equals about 228 billion, and the US is 649 billion. So without splitting hairs I think it’s safe to say, rednecks in the woods aren’t going to do much up against the US military. Conservative politics has been the big driving force in building up that military also, by the way.
Amended to what? Maybe just repeal it like the 18th amendment! How is that going to change our daily lives except for the better? I look to Europe for guidance here- perfectly sane gun laws and less gun violence. You can still hunt, and have a handgun for protection if you take the correct training.

You’re measuring in dollars rather than people.

You said “amend” now repeal? No right to arm and protect yourself. The country was founded on “Natural law”… you should look into that.

As for the US military, a high number of those folks are “the rednecks in the woods.”

True points, and I will look into natural law. I remember something from history class but can’t recall.. I’ve heard the theory that the military will join with the people etc…
well I’ll tell you what- to me that sounds like a civil war which isn’t something I like to ponder lightly. Is that the scenario you see?

Ullr Rover

That’s not the scenario I see; and I hope I’ll never see it.

Just to put things in relative perspective: the idea of a citizen militia was not to have an offensive force. It is meant to act as a bulwark if there is need; a last resort option if there is an invasion or usurpation of the civilian government.

The trope that 2A supporters are ammo sexuals living in the woods prepping to take down the government is a load of shit. We are well trained, well versed and ready, but we are reactionary not offensive. If some shit goes down we are the people that are the first to help… at least all the folks I know that are 2A supporters. Obviously there are outliers, but they are just that.

And a warning: the idea of an armed resistance to a tyrannical government seems far-fetched now it may look differently in a generation or in 5 generations. If the 2A is repealed the idea of resistance is taken away as an option for those generations.

Furthermore, you only need to look at the US war in Vietnam and the Soviet war in Afghanistan to see how a motivated, well armed (with small arms) militia can frustrate and turn away the most technically advanced and mechanized militaries in the world.

There are more small arms in the hands of the US People than there are in the hands of all the world’s militaries combined.

I disagree with almost everything Ullr says lately, but there is a point here.

1. People already do have to study and pass a test to own a handgun in California and many other states. You have to pass a course to have a CC. If you then use that handgun out of compliance of those laws you are completely liable. If you leave that gun loaded anywhere near children you are liable. California has some of the most strict laws and regulations on guns in the country.

2. If only the police and criminals have guns then it creates even more of an imbalance of power. Such power is easily corrupted, as we’ve seen in the news lately. That, to me, is what’s important. As a single woman I am grateful for my right to a gun. And my right to have a good dog. Both have deterred violent break ins of my home. Dogs have killed people too, but not many suggest criminalizing dog ownership.

Maybe instead of producing more regulations we need to actually enforce the laws we do have.

Maybe if people are idiots with their guns then they should stay in jail instead of being let out 1 – 3 days later.

At the same time, I personally think people who brag about their guns or flash their guns are idiots and bullies. But you can’t jail people for personality problems alone. They have to actually commit a crime. And threatening by any means (including speech) is a crime.

Thanks for trying to set people straight. Unfortunately the legalese for “assault” rifle has diverged from the actual engineering of an assault rifle.

In California, as it stands, almost any scary black rifle is an “assault” rifle.

I hope the 17y.o. finds her way home.

How many shots does it take to make a human being safe?

Imagine a company can pay 10 BILLION in a settlement and claim no wrong doing.

Business as usual, for round up, no warning labels, nothing, just a pay off for those who died and who were injured

This is country you live in, it amazes me what some people think about the oversight of we’ll intentioned people in government and big corporations.

Gotcha.

It seems there is so much anger and division in the world, and so many keyboard warriors, willing to ignore so much our great country has to offer. When I say great country, I mean the principles and foundation of equality and liberty and justice.

It seems we are so blind to the parasite latched on to our very existence, and yet we refuse to accept or acknowledge the real tragedy for the majority of hymans on the planet is the concentration of power and secrecy at the top of the food chain.

Who checks the fact checkers.?

I heard the girl was back within the day, and she was there to trim. So, not as bad as it sounded. That said, it’s pretty well known that the cartel has always made sure there were some females available in Covelo for the comfort of the foot soldiers on R&R. Seen it myself, I am sorry to say. Well, a girl’s got to make a living, right? The vast majority of them hook up and marry, in any case.
