Trinity Deputy No Longer With Sheriff’s Department After Making Instagram Post Mocking the Death of George Floyd

According to a terse post this evening on the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, former deputy Brandon Woodhouse “is no longer employed with the County effective June 5, 2020.”
On June 1, social media reports began pointing to an Instagram account belonging to Woodhouse and showing screenshots including a still taken from the viral video that showed the death of a black man, George Floyd, under the knee of a white Minneapolis, Minnesota police officer. The image had been photoshopped to show a pornographic actor sitting nude on Floyd’s head with the words “Quit resisting” printed above the actor’s head.
On June 2, Trinity County Sheriff Tim Saxon provided us a statement in which he said, “I want to apologize to the board and the people of Trinity County for the inappropriate, discriminatory photo that was uploaded to the employee’s account.” Saxon added, “We are here to serve and protect all people, no matter what, because everyone matters.”
Today, the press release issued said, “The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate behavior of this nature by any of its employees.”

On June 1, 2020, the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of an inappropriate, discriminatory meme that was uploaded to a social media account belonging to an employee of this department, Brandon Woodhouse. The meme was related to the recent death of Mr. George Floyd by an Officer of the Minneapolis Police Department.
The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate behavior of this nature by any of its employees. Every report of discrimination will be investigated thoroughly and objectively. The Sheriff’s Office immediately placed our deputy on Administrative Leave and an Internal Investigation was initiated.
Mr. Woodhouse is no longer employed with the County effective June 5, 2020

I have contemplated this allegation of systematic murder of Black Americans by police. I applied the Greek logic method cause that’s generally how I think. So, what are the elements that exist every time police kill another citizen? 1) there has to be a law that forbids an act. 2) because not all laws are universally accepted there is a FORCE that enFORCEs the law. 3) someone breaks a law. 4) the law breaker resists arrest. Now, take away anyone of these elements and nobody dies. Think on these things, do not react. Hmmm which element should we dump. BLM and Antifa say get rid of the cops. Okay, that is one solution. President Donald Trump is a good president that has done a lot of good. What would Clinton have done, create socialism, no thanks. Most of you that bad mouth President Trump don’t have a clue of all the good he did and the number of jobs brought back. You bad mouth him for the way he is handling COVID-19. No other president has went through a pandemic of this magnitude since 1918. And back then there weren’t the amount of people so you still have no way to compare. 1) George Floyd had a counterfeit bill in his possession. No crime there.
2) There were four large men to subdue him if he needed it. Sufficient law enforcement.
3) And what law was broken? Why, none at all. Anyone can be slipped false money without knowing it.

Guess again. I was recently given two $20 bills at a yard sale. They looked fine to me. I used them at the casino. They figured out the bills were counterfeit (serial numbers were the same but I didn’t see that until it was pointed out). The bills were confiscated & I was given a receipt along with apologies about my losing $40. I was asked where I got them and that was that. No one kneeled on my neck, but then I’m white…

Did he resign or was he fired? Press release doesn’t really state he was relieved of his duties. If he’s resigns he can apply with another department. Wonder why he didn’t last long with Redding PD or San Pablo PD? Would be interesting to hear the really story.

My points of debate was not to justify the tactics or cause of death of Mr. Floyd. I had the facts in hand that Mr. Floyd attempted to buy cigarettes with a counterfeit $20. He had meth and fentanyl on board and was acting strange. The cops were called because of his bizarre behavior. If these facts are true than my point remains. Each of the four elements together lead to coercive force against a citizen. Everyone of them by themselves can set into motion a series of events that lead to someone getting physical hurt or killed.

Until everyday citizens start policing the police, this violence against our certain groups of citizens will continue. Until all drugs are at least decriminalized, citizens of certain ethnic groups will continue to be suspects more often than Caucasian citizens, arrested and imprisoned at higher rates than Caucasian citizens for drug offenses.
There is still segregation and white flight in many places in our country, not just the south. Segregation is based more on economic disparity than color nowadays, but guess what races are the majority of low income neighborhoods? Guess what neighborhoods have the most police patrolling and therefore arrests. Which neighborhoods have crumbling schools, roads, water systems, and housing?
Until there is economic equality, meaning equal pay for equal work regardless of race, sex, age, disability, etc, certain races will incur the brunt of poverty, police brutality, unsafe housing and workplace conditions, lack of quality education, water not fit to drink, and all the rest of what the rich folks don’t want in their neighborhoods (the NIMBY folk.)
The main problem with the protests at this point (besides the violence of the police and looting and setting businesses on fire by the protesters and possibly by people wanting to make the protests look like riots) is the lack of a clear goal or demand. How can the protests end with no real end goal? How can the wishes and demands be met without police and policy change?
What do the protesters want? We know justice is what they are screaming and begging for, but how do they get the justice they deserve? What is the outcome that can be articulated and negotiated? I understand the pain and anger being expressed.I hope some attainable goals for positive change can be set. I wish there were leaders making this countrywide protesting cohesive with demands for policy changes & prison reform all of us could benefit from.All of the work, risk, suffering through teargas, less than lethal rubber bullets,and smoke bombs,and arrests will be in vain without any real negotiations or policy changes.
One idea being kicked around is to put a concerned citizen in every police car for ride alongs.The cop cams are not doing enough to stop badly behaving cops.Why is that? If citizens riding along is impossible for whatever reasons (risk for the citizens or police, interference with arrests, liability insurance for the police departments, etc), how about making cop cams available for online public viewing? We the people pay for the cameras and should be able to critique police behavior all day everyday. Something about having actions monitored usually makes people behave better. Sucks that it has come to this, but the technology is available and part of it is in use to make this happen.
With all the discrimination that has led to so many civilians being injured (and killed) by those sworn to protect us, the police have given the public no choice but to monitor and critique their every move.If the cops don’t like the idea, there are other jobs out there for cops that don’t want to be held accountable for their actions.
I would love to hear any ideas for making sure this country has equal rights for all those living here, including migrant workers so often forgotten about or blamed for the lack of available jobs that most of us wouldn’t or couldn’t do even for a day. How can we as a country at least adhere to human rights for those people in the country “illegally?” Imagine for a moment if Canada was to treat Americans in their country like we are treating those from south of the border. It is no wonder we have so much discrimination towards certain races, after seeing how the migrant workers, who bake in the sun picking our fruits and vegetables, working construction, cooking and cleaning dishes in our restaurants, and so on and their families have been treated recently.
