Traffic is moving slowly on Southbound Hwy 101 just south of Arcata. [Photo by Lloyd Snyder]
Traffic is slow on Hwy 101 southbound out of Arcata as of 3:15 p.m. Construction work is starting to hinder the normal speed through the area almost as far north as Samoa Blvd.
Please be careful in the area.

I drove through there this morning going north and it was bad, so we came back through Manila. Much smoother.
I hadn’t heard anything about this. What’s the construction project?
I was wondering the same thing
The guy in the orange shirt to the right looks likes he’s fed up with all the traffic and about to shoot someone. … J/K
i believe this is going to be happening for the next five years. they put out a press release a year ago
Yeah, what are they doing? I must have missed that press release. I was sad when I saw them cut those trees down there, but apparently they have something bigger planned.
The trees were cut down to make way for a new bridge crossing over Jacoby Creek that is going to be built…not sure of the exact time frame but it is part of the Safety Corridor improvement project they’ve been planning forever, which will include an overpass at Indianola and otherwise no more of the crossing traffic to turn left when going south and you won’t be able to turn south at Bayside Cutoff, Harper Ford, or Jacobs Ave. I’m not sure what other parts there are but I think there’s also some widening of shoulders etc.
they are also doing a half light at the airport
