Hwy 101 is likely to be closed for several hours and traffic diverted through downtown Willits after a cement truck overturned in a collision with a second vehicle, spilling wet concrete onto the roadway at the south end of the Willits Bypass about 7:30 a.m., according to Bonnie Kuhn, spokesperson for Caltrans.

One person was pinned in the Honda Civic and had to be extricated. A medical helicopter is currently on the scene as of 8:13 a.m. and picking up the person with major injuries to fly them to an out-of-the-area hospital. Another person received moderate injuries and is being taken to Howard Hospital.

Kuhn said that 400 feet of guardrail was ripped out in the crash.

There is no estimated time for reopening.

Another near fatal accident. I don’t know who was at fault, but the Honda Civic is no match for a cement truck. Wishing the injuried people a quick and complete recovery. Thank God for the Medevac choppers and their crews.

It’s not a Cement truck. It’s a Concrete Mixer… Cement is the grey powder derived from Lime stone usually hauled in pneumatic tanks. Once mixed with aggregate and water or other admixtures it becomes concrete. loaded into a rotating drum Ready mix Concrete truck.

You are 100% correct, but most folks that do not know cement from concrete call them cement trucks anyway. It has become part of the popular parlance from being used so much for such a long time.

You can get cement by the truckload too, but it ships from outside the area

I always love it when people call a circular saw a skilsaw, slotted pliers channel locks, adjustable wrenches crescent wrenches, and my favorite is when they call a revolver a pistol. Oh the world of calling things by the wrong name.

Stihl! Hopefully that doesn’t offend any of you Husqvarna fans! That would be 2 x 026, 3 x 362, 1 x 242, 1 x 880 and 1 x 192. That covers my immediate family!

Drove Garberville to Eureka yesterday and majority of cars were from out of state. I sure hope these out of towners getting lost in the woods and family of guy who fell in the ocean have to pay back our county for the resources they used especially while not supposed to be here.
Any local knows you don’t tempt fate with cliffs over the ocean especially at college cove.

Please go the hell back to where you came from!!!#
Ill bet money whoever hit that delineator that flew through those folks windshield is from out of town. Why even bother having SIP when all these outsiders are just gonna bring it here anyway. May as well do what other areas are, open back up and be ready for lots of suffering and death. The out of towners are gonna bring it anyway.

Just think of how many communities you could infect driving from LA to Oregon. Unfortunately there are folks who are attempting to jnfect as many people as possible just like some people did with AIDS.

The Southbound approach of the Willit’s bypass is very confusing.
The lane configuration/design needs to be rethought in that area.
South bound traffic seem to go from one lane into two southbound. Or two into two since there is a number two exit lane immediately before the bypass and the the bypass could be mistaken for two lanes southbound.
It’s an optical illusion. Very dangerous.
Bet it was the responsible party’s first time through there and he tried to pass on what he thought was his lane. Was there fog there this morning?
Almost happened to me the first time through.
Now I know to use extra caution in that area.
Northbound as well, as the mixer found out, is in the danger area as well.
The bypass and the southbound approach should have a divider of some kind or at least the type of removable delineators used on the Golden Gate Bridge to prevent this from periodically reoccurring. That would allow travel in either lane in either direction with simple adjustments for accommodating lane blockages when necessary.
I seem to remember another bad accident there when it first opened.

Anybody know any CalTrans engineers?
