String of Burglaries Continue in the Redway Area

A series of burglaries in the Redway area over the last month is frustrating residents. Trim Scene Solutions has been hit twice in the last week. Owner Melissa Burger said at least one other business that she knows of in the Meadows Business Park was also a victim. This is on top of several homes in the area being burglarized.

According to Samantha Karges, spokesperson for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, the first burglary at Trim Scene occurred on May 22. Karges said that a unknown subject reportedly forced entry into a trailer on the property.

Burger said, “One male used wire cutters to cut razor wire off the top of our fence. He climbed over the fence and pried open the…trailer and made off with a bin.”

Then the late on the evening of the 28th, burglars again hit Trim Scene. Burger said, “They used bolt cutters to break into the storage containers and cut a…hole in the fence behind the store to get in.”

Karges confirmed that the Sheriff’s Office had received a report of that incident also. She told us, “I do not have information regarding what exactly was stolen at this point. The case is still under investigation and no suspects have been identified at this time.”

Please take extra precautions and if you have any information, please contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department at (707) 445-7251.

In your opinion, do you consider it to be vigilante justice to advocate that he should have been shot while committing the act? I dont think he should be tracked down and shot after the fact, but It is my personal opinion that he should have eaten some lead unpon breaking and entering. Last fall Sheriff honsal did say in a community meeting that he is a constitutional sheriff and believes that people have the right to use deadly force to protect their life.

Than what will you do? Ask them politely to leave? Most of these drug addicts thieves would laugh at such a proposition . I know first hand. Most would not leave with out a physical altercation. Many have nothing to lose and view jail and prison as a joke and free ride to a higher education of being a repeat junkie thief. Honestly I would ask once, if not an immediate retreat I would shoot someone that breaks into my home where me and my family reside . Lucky for thief, I’m a good shot, nothing like surviving a knee cap that is blown off. Let me tell you this, that’ll stop em dead in there tracks, if the thief is dumb enough to pull a weapon, well, that’s a different story. Keep packing mama! Wade Harris won’t leave youre house Just because you ask him too…..

My uncle shot and killed a man in self defense and his life was never the same. It might sound all cool but when it comes right down to it It kills more than one person

you talk like you’ve never seen the results of a gunshot.
I can change a tire. It doesn’t mean I want to!
Guns work for self defense as long as you are the only one that thought of it.

It’s not your right einstein.
California is a stand down state. Get informed or you will end up doing life for defending yourself or your property. This isn’t Texas.
Good rainy day to brush up on our commiefornia gun laws for you!

It IS a right. If an intruder breaks into your home and you believe they will cause great bodily harm or death, that is just cause in CA. They have to be inside the building, you cannot shoot them in your back yard for stealing tools.
If the owner of that business had a sleeping area and stayed the night there from time to time. They could probably defend it in court if they shot an intruder who was breaking in.
Also, the name Einstein is a proper noun and should be capitalized. Get informed.

It’s under CA Penal Code 198.5 if you’d like to learn something.

I’m glad you feel that way Kym, if you shot someone with glee, I’d be a bit concerned. Its not the feeling that comes to mind when I think about how to handle a home invader either. Also definitely not the feeling ive experienced when I’ve been shot at or had a gun to my head.
How is a person to know what the intentions of an intruder are? Are they just hungry, broke, drunk and confused, a violent rapist, Wade Harris or just looking to kill someone? So you dont know if they are just going to pilfer your fridge for OJ like a recent crime, or brutally murder you like Father Freed was by that guy from Redway.
As someone who has been kidnapped, robbed & driven to the desert outside of LA at gunpoint, I had some time to think about my mistakes, what’s important in life, and the lengths I would go to ensure I will stay alive to be with my family another day.
So if a person breaks into my home with malice, living to see tomorrow and protecting my loved ones is my #1. It should be common knowledge that if a person steals, or threatens the life of another, they are putting their own life on the line.
If more tweakers died from shotguns than needles around here, there would probably be less burglaries after a while. Again, just my opinions.

If someone breaks into your home you must assess they mean you bodily harm. Failing to do so puts you, and your family, at great risk. Home invasions aren’t an I’m OK, your OK moment. If you’re away at the time it’s a burglary, and if you’re home it’s a robbery.

In law it’s defined as; the felonious taking of the property of another from his or her person or in his or her immediate presence, against his or her will, by violence or intimidation.

Violence or intimidation compel a forceful response.

Exactly. However, having a pack of smart canine friends that know what belongs and what doesn’t is a great first defense for the homestead. The gats and boom sticks are plan B. Here’s our Plott hound teaching our rescue Schnauzer how to act badass and play with the alpha’s. Visable high quality (4k) cameras are helpful too. If someones not present, everythingis up for grabs, even if it’s behind layers of steel and locks.

You should start thinking that, kill or be killed. They break the law and your person privacy, they know what’s coming.

It is kinda funny, while there’s a protest in eureka for cops being racist and violent, the rest of the county is disappointed with the legal system for not actually putting criminals in jail.

Don’t see much hope for Redway getting better anytime soon. So many people in a town that is only one square mile, with a broken industry and no other industry to fall back on. Tourist aren’t attracted to the place because it’s crawling with homeless drug addicts doing deals in plain view. And everything is so expensive there. Only affordable place to eat is the liquor store. The guy who bought the Solar Suites building is doing a great job of running out the old businesses there like Persimmons, the solar company, kids ballet studio, etc. No leadership in Redway, no plan, just so sad to watch it deteriorating.

Oh no, hate to hear that the Burgers got ripped off… They are good people, and good parents… need law enforcement in the business park at night, or maybe a group of business owners to take turns looking for people wondering around the Evergreen business park at night.

Let’s see….notorious local home thief and criminal set free recently….lots of other known burglars out on ” catch and release” policy…and now burglaries? Who could have seen that coming?…

Society will only continue to suffer when criminals are treated like victims and citizens are treated like criminals. Many call this progressiveness. With everything that’s going on…… I only see dystopia in the near future.

Cameras on site and your not stepping in? Been robbed already this week? I can understand the thought that fences w razor wire are deterrents but your the kind of business that needs a human in site 24-7. Especially after dark in a busier section of So Hum.

At least he didn’t spread CoVid all over the place. Courteous of him to wear a mask.

If he’s going to stick to this kind of activity he’ll have to get himself a neck tat.

Law of the Jungle folks. Protect your property. Don’t rely on other men who don’t care about your property to protect you. Remember not everyone shares the same morals. If something is left out in the open it’s fair game. If you’re not there to protect your property it’s fair game.

Word on the street is they caught him on there cameras. The cops had him on the side of the road. He hangs under the first bridge going into Garberville. His name is Dwayne. The cops let him go. So why do we want to call the cops if the law let’s them go. When the police can’t do there job, we expect. Someone needs to lead the way to justice. Estelle maybe you can help. Lol. I hope he leaves town. He’s a drug addict. Peace out

Mixed messages are going out to cops right now! And really have been for the last decade. Yep… there are bad cops, like in all professions, but there are mostly good cops. A big part of the problem is our feckless court system. Imagine being a cop right now…drugs are as normal as untitled attitudes are. They work to physically arrest the “bad guy/gal” ofcourse using less than lethal means, because that’s what society expects, just to see the courts do nothing. The system is broken and the criminals know it. If you ask me our cops are in a bad position. Most all of us would want/expect a cop to show up when we have an emergency.
