I’m still hoping for a rescue.
Did anyone else notice that this is the second search and rescue mission in about as many days involving people who are apparently not from the area during a time when the public is still encouraged not to travel more than necessary. Are hotels and campgrounds still closed to short term stays?
Do we know this man wasn’t from here?
“A search and rescue is underway in the Trinidad area for a missing Victorville man.”
Your article says Victorville.
My lord…can you tell that I’ve been averaging 5 hours sleep a night for the last two weeks…? I shall now slink away in shame.
🙁
As to the question… I’ve been seeing a LOT of tourists lately. I’d say just as many as a typical year. Out-of-state license plates everywhere, and they’re all driving like they’ve never been here before. If we had a police department actually interested in doing something other than asset forfeitures, they should be investigating where all these people are staying.
I’ve got out of state plates and I’ve lived here for four years. It doesn’t automatically mean tourists.
Don’t feel bad Kym, you do an amazing job with RHBB. You are the ‘go to’ site for local news for everyone I know.
I thank you every day☺🌷🌺🌻🌹💐🌸
I agree!!
Thank you!
Ditto
Aww! That means a lot coming from you.
This young man is my nephew. we, as a family are not getting much info. We know that there is a search going on, that’s all. Do you know what happened?
Charlotte, I don’t know anything more than what I’ve posted, but I’ve sent you an email with suggestions of what you can do. I’m so sorry you all are going through this.
Charlotte if you give me a way to contact you I can give you some information of what transpired. I was there. The young woman he was with stopped me and asked for help and I directed EMS to the location. I did not see the event occur but I was there before and after.
Hello Celene, could you possibly email information as to what transpired to [email protected]. I am the man’s fiancee.
Please contact me at [email protected]. Any info is appreciated
Don’t sit around waiting for the sheriff to find him. Better off getting out there and looking yourself.
Your very good at reporting the current news. Get some sleep and it will be better tomorrow. Stay Safe my friend
Kim,
I absolutely agree with Dinah.
Sometimes way late into the morning when I can’t sleep I am amazed that there is something new here.
Thank you!
🙃
Thank you!
Oops, I meant way early in the morning when most folks are sound asleep.
Many drownings and disappears happen when an individual hits his/her head and is knocked out. My you find closer with a body, many don’t around here. Condolences.
No sheriffs they all quit
I’m praying that my friend AJ shows up….this is unreal
I used to fuck with him but I moved I should have never left I stil have snap on my phone.
He was one of my friends that was like a lil bruh to me.
Don’t tell Sheriff Honsal, according to him all is well and everyone still sheltering. 😂😂
🕯🌳I personally thank you Kym for your efforts at keeping the community informed to the best of your ability. Get some rest mama bear.🕯🌍🐸🕯🕯🕯🖖
Thanks, Willie
Because it says “ Victorville man” doesn’t necessarily mean he’s not living here. While I was in college I always kept my Humboldt address. Just sayin’.
Once again Guest, I must agree with you as I did the same thing.
One reason that I finally changed my address with the DMV was because of vehicle smog certification and certain exempt counties.
No smog nazi bs . Hope this has a good ending.
He is my nephew. he lives in the victorville area. We’re not getting info in this area. Can you please keep us informed on the search. I only just found out it was the ocean and not some lake.
Charlotte,
I very sincerely am wishing the best outcome for you and your family.
Charlotte, I have been thinking of this young man and his family since I came upon the rescue efforts yesterday. I said a prayer and wept as I watched as I have a 22 yr old son myself and I can only imagine the anguish you and the rest of his family are going through.
I have to post difficult stories all the time and I was barely able to ask questions as I was crying so hard. To all of the family, many of us here are sending you love and compassion for this very tough time.
Thank you for saying what many of us “locals” are feeling and fearing.
I have a 22 year old boy and I can’t imagine what his family is going through right now.
Lots of out of towners took rental homes in Trinidad for the duration, they wander around the McK Safeway complaining about the product mix and stocking levels, then get into their very expensive SUV and drive back to safety. So here, I opened up a whole new topic for the haters to get onto to, go for it. (And Kym, take a nap, you deserve some quiet time)
In Southern Oregon and most cars in hotel I’m at are from California. Half the cars on the road are from California. Looks like California forgot to stay Home.
I saw Rhode Island plates in Miranda today
Tis the season…
People someone’s child is missing. Could you please all stay on topic and stop worrying where people are from or not from. As far as I can tell, for now, we are All stuck here on earth together. I have to believe the creator had some reason to put us all here at this time other than to argue about place, race, and the like.
you are spot on Hot Mama, thanks
It’s still a “free” country despite what idiot politicians ,”health” departments, and the oh so very afraid may say.
Thursday about 230ish… 3 boats from Trinidad responded to a man in the water radio call from the Trinidad Harbor bait shop. The Charter boat Shellback, Reel Therapy and the Trinidad water taxi all responded we met the state park life guard paddling on her surfboard in college cove and she said the victim was north of us at Elk head we motored up there and arrived just as the Coast guard helicopter arrived on scene. The 3 boats searched the surrounding rocks and waters while the rescue life guard search the rocks tight to the head. the Coast Guard helo was hovering back and forth searching about 50 ft above the water as you can see in above pics. The boats stayed around for probably 1.5 hours searching but finding nothing. The sheriffs and fireman were watching from the bluffs. When we left the coast guard and lifeguard where still at it searching. I hope they they are able to find the young man today (Friday) and bring some closure for his family. He certainly had a lot of people looking for him ASAP
Thank you for adding what you know. I appreciate it very much.
Please keep updating. This young man is a family friend.
The ocean here is beautiful, but tragically unforgiving. Most of the old-timers I know that were born and raised here would not consider swimming in it, as it has claimed so many lives over the years. That’s not a knock against visitors, just an FYI for everyone. Violent surf, sneaker waves, jagged rocks, sharks, water cold enough to cause hypothermia,… there are many hazards that are not apparent at first glance. Please keep a respectful distance between yourself and the water, unless you are a surfer, ab diver, or kayaker that fully understands the risks and is willing and prepared to take them.
So you know. This man was not in or near the water on purpose. He fell from the cliff.
I do understand that. My comment was not intended as criticism of the victim, merely a note of caution for everyone that enjoys the shore. I tried to make that clear with my second sentence.
This is heartbreaking. He sounds like a lovely young man. I do hope he’s found well & strong, just maybe hidden by the rocks but still ok.
Im his cousin from Houston Tx. Thhx for all the information.praying for my family.💖🙏
The water is so cold in all of Northern California that most people don’t live long enough to get hypothermia. The cold causes humans to loose muscle control then sink and drowned. I learned this in a sailor’s “Safety at Sea” class. It happens so quickly that one can’t expect a “man overboard” to be able to help at all with his own rescue. It’s also possible to have a heart attack from sudden immersion in cold water. Be careful near the ocean here! My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the young man’s family.
Im praying that AJ just shows up…..
This is so unreal
Long story short. Many years ago, my extended family had a picnic at Bean Hollow Beach, 20+ miles south of San Francisco. There were signs all over the beaches about staying out of the water due to a very strong undertow. One of my aunts was an Olympic swimmer a few years before. She decided that she was a good enough swimmer to go in. Wrong. Before long, she was being pulled out to sea. Her husband, my dad, several cousins, etc. formed a human chain and eventually were able to pull her in. Aunt Win never again went into the Pacific Ocean. just plain old swimming pools.
Accidents are so unreal. In movies there is music that suggests something may happen. In real life there is no music. Often the aftermath of an accident is incredibly silent as well, which can seem even more cruel. You want to shake the silence for answers or a change of events. So sorry your family has to endure this. Our community is feeling for you as you can see from the comments.
It is with great sorrow that we are all reading this. I pray that AJ has been found. My hear goes out to his family and friends. Yes, Joan that is true, I want to shake the silence for answers. Mother Nature, sweet Mother, may we have a merciful answer.
I love you bruv I’ve been praying and praying and praying I know that your safe out there just waiting to be found I should’ve been there with you and I can’t shake that I miss you I need you here bruv you guys can’t stop look don’t give up #weloveyouaj

If anyone gets an update small or big at any time can you please comment and let me know. I am a family member. Does anyone at all have a factual update?
Any update you guys can’t stop looking I know he’s out there

I’m sorry. Still no word.
I was on the beach as the helicopter arrived. Truly heartbreaking. I was hoping to hear miraculous news seeing this article.
