Suspect Arrested in Connection With Homicide on Campton Road
This is a press release from the Eureka Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On May 20, 2020, at about 7:38 p.m., Eureka Police Department officers responded to the 4000- block of Campton Road for the report of an elderly male found deceased in his residence by a relative. Upon arrival, officers found 84-year-old Roger Mitchell (“Mitch”) Clark deceased, alone in his home. It was immediately evident that Clark had been murdered. EPD Detectives and Evidence Technicians responded to process the scene.
On May 23rd, an autopsy was performed on the victim. To protect the integrity of the investigation, the specific cause and details of death are not being released at this time but it was confirmed as a homicide. Search warrants have been served and evidence collected from the scene is being sent to a forensic laboratory for expedited DNA analysis.
Detectives have since canvased the neighborhood, interviewed dozens of known associates, and met with other local agencies, including the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office, and Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, to review the case.
On Tuesday, May 26th, EPD Detectives identified a strong person of interest in this homicide and two other recent stabbing cases. 22-year-old Eureka resident Wesley Lee Starritt was arrested by an EPD Problem-Oriented Policing Unit Detective following a traffic stop later that evening as other investigators surveilled his residence. He was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on unrelated charges including violation of probation, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and other offenses. A search warrant was executed at his Campton Drive residence and additional evidence collected.
Detectives are actively working to build their case. No arrest for Clark’s murder has been made at this time. However, we feel confident we have our suspect now in custody and that an arrest for murder will soon be made. Further details will be forthcoming following Starritt’s anticipated arrest for murder and other serious offenses.

Heartbreaking. An 84 year old man. Very, very sad.
I can’t help but wonder, what lead this young man to this?
What kind of life he had to lead him down this path?
My father is 84. My heart hurts deeply.
Write Steritt his ticket and turn him loose!
Get out of jail free card for murder one right him a ticket for murder one and cut him loose sounds like a plan man😀😄😃😁😆😆😂😂🤣🤣🤣
This is another case of seriously bad upbringing. Starritt is one of those families with no chance from day one. Unfortunately for this one, he didn’t break out. Now he will hopefully get a long prison term and not be able to continue the trend.
Sad as hell.
I want to do a series of interviews about the backgrounds of our worst violent offenders and see what patterns may emerge. Message me if you want to give information about his family and maybe I’ll get started on that project. I’m not suggesting “Excuses” AND what in the environment can we as a community possibly try to see if it will make a difference. Closing Raven Project and underfunding CASA etc. doesn’t help and I think we need more of a personal as well as broadly communal perspective in order to really have a FEEL for this rather than “Lock em up and throw away the key” which we’ve already been doing for decades/centuries.
We have much more information on how to help now though. Still not funding its being applied however. There is no village taking up slack for parents who weren’t parented well enough themselves and/or have suffered experiences in their adult hood that limit there capacities to parent. We are getting what we refuse to pay for. Sad and not necessary.
Takes a village.
I can tell you quite a bit about his family, it’s probably the story you’d expect. I’m not sure how to get in contact with you, if you leave that information I can help.
Paid his taxes, made it to retirement, living the good quiet life, only to get snuffed out by tweeker scum in your own house.
Lock your doors, get a dog, have a gun within reach.
Good job on 14th street though! Need more of that. Parole the scum direct to Jesus!
This really upsets me. What right did the guy, from a bad local family, have to take this elderly gentleman’s life. You live to be this old and then some young punk does this . Get him off the streets to rot in prison forever.
Governor Gruesome is burning the midnight oil working on a pardon for this poor, abused, and misunderstood lad. That said, he does have a right to his “day in court”.
Please provide a link to the article saying Newsom is working on a pardon pretrial. Or just stop saying outrageous BS to entertain your self.
Good grief, can anybody recognize sarcasm anymore? Is it the first victim of group-think? What’s next, the two minutes of hate requirement for all citizens. As each day passes I’m amazed to see the brilliance, and insight, of George Orwell.
🕯🌳One step leads to another, look your already backing him up.⚖👁🇺🇸
I googled this kids name and he is nothing but trouble. Was released in January on gun crime, and ORd in April on a misdemeanor
Wasnt Mitch the owner of Bay West Supply?
