Memorial Day During the COVID Crisis: A Time for Reflection

Today, as we remember our veterans and their sacrifices, let’s also thank those who are sacrificing now–grocery store workers, gas station attendants, medical workers, firefighters, those small business owners struggling to keep afloat and those who have died.

This is Memorial Day, a day to pay honor to military personnel who’ve paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

There’s an alphabet soup of days with which to acknowledge and/or recognize gays to strays and everything in between.

Grocery store clerks , Gas station attendants, first responders etc. can be recognized as hero’s if you please but, don’t downplay the importance of the American soldier, marine, sailor, airmen and the sacrifices they’ve made.

This is a lame article…. Thank you to all that have served or still are serving our county, or have had to pay the ultimate price. Thank you for protecting our country.

Agree b. Liberals were trying to honor all the covid deaths in America today….. really? Does that smell like propaganda or what! “ let’s turn our attention folks, not to those who died for freedom, but those who died to help the democrats win the election.”Tyrants everywhere.

There's change in the wind.

“propaganda” is all the conservative Republicans who saturate the country with ads to sell whatever they can lie about so they can, like the kings of old, count their wealth. Crap made in China and other countries by slave laborers to have their brand name splattered all over the country’s billboards, magazines and cable TV which they own because Jesus says they should. They are about their mantra, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. And Trump helps them by passing huge tax breaks in hopes he will reap some of their benefits after he gets run out of office along with Mitch McConnell and his cronies. Maybe then the 1% ultra rich will be forced to pay their share of what the poor have paid by their jobs sent overseas and couples surviving on two minimum wage jobs for the past 20 years.

Trump is the culprit whose befuddled, delayed response to Covid-19, plus his myriad offenses, failures, and coddling of dictators will cost Republicans dearly, I hope. “Those who died to help the democrats win the election.” Wow, that’s really evil man. You must have been to Trump University, polishing up your total lack of empathy or concern for humanity, your country; your total lack of concern for anybody and anything but your selfish interests. Just like your Hero. That is sick. Do you have a religious advisor? Ask for a refund.

Yes,
a more appropriate
use of Memorial Day.

Instead of racing crank buckets
through water and sand
only to fill the village of Ferndale
with idiots shouting through their gaping jowls.

Wouldn’t the use of Labor Day be better ???

And screw up the labor day weekend of Concours on Main? I don’t think that’s appropriate.

i don’t think the two crowds
are the same.
And, would the ‘Start Line’
collide proceedures ?
i-do-not-know.
Creative thinkers have answers (eventually).
Maybe your gas spewing muscle-cars could “GO” on the Friday after Thanks Giving ? Don’t know, just asking.

And please wear a mask, it’s a small price to pay and you show your community respect. Our vets deserve more for their sacrifice.

Umm, no.

Memorial Day has nothing to do with “gas station attendants”. Today I will honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Please do so as well.

And I really have no intent of insult toward gas station attendants, other workers out there or anyone suffering from this crazy time.

Sad that so many don’t understand the real meaning of Memorial Day. It’s not for thanking veterans or active duty personnel. That is done on Armed Services Day and Veteran’s Day. Memorial Day is for those that didn’t make it home. PERIOD.

Exactly.

It’s not about those ‘Brave Souls’
flipp’in burgers
for take out or delivery.

It’s about those and not just those, that didn’t make it back from firing M16s or lob’in shells. (Fucking Nixon.)

Yes, the Holiday is to honor those who, wearing the uniform of The United States of America, did not return from the Field. All gave some, these honored dead gave all.

Honoring honest labor and especially health workers who risk their lives and other public servants is a good idea almost every day. But today is different. Don’t schools have civic classes anymore?

We can argue with a president, we can fume at Congress, we can vote ‘em out, but don’t blame the soldiers, sailors, air(wo)men, and Marines who carry out the orders of those we elect.
