Press release from the County of Humboldt:

A second Humboldt County resident has died after having been diagnosed with COVID-19. The individual was an elderly resident of the Alder Bay Assisted Living facility.

Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich said her sympathies are with the resident’s family. “Our community mourns this second loss,” she said. “The death puts a harsh focus on the reality of this virus. Elderly and medically fragile individuals overall are at higher risk for severe illness. Sadly, they are also at increased risk of succumbing to the infection, even with excellent medical care.”

“As a community, we need to help protect these individuals by embracing prevention measures such as using facial coverings, social distancing and avoiding gatherings of those outside our household,” Frankovich said. “Less virus circulating in the community means less chance of virus entering the facility.”

The death was reported by St. Joseph Hospital, one day after Humboldt County’s first COVID-related death.

I am very sorry to here that another person at Alder Bay has lost their life to Covid19. My sincere condolences to their family and friends. Everyone wants to go out and run around. All this will do is increase the positive cases, and cause more deaths.

It’s never been about stopping it, it’s been about flattening the curve or spreading it out. As bad as it sounds get used to it. It’ll make it easier in the long run as callous as it sounds. It’s as inevitable as the tide.

I am very sorry to hear this. Another tragedy in the loss of a helpless person. Profound statement- ” less virus in the community means less chance of virus entering the facility ” . These people are not being protected.

So very sad. I hope these elderly people are not suffering. They deserve better than this. They should have been able to go out on their own terms. Blessings to the families and friends.

They were in a nursing home.. From my experience folks in a nursing home are on their way out anyway.

They were NOT in a nursing home “on their way out” they were in an assisted living home. Not the same thing at all.

It’s not a nursing home. Alder bay isn’t for sick people who are on their last’s legs. It’s a community of older people. Kind of like an apartment complex that provides meals, etc. Big difference.

Why do I hear John Prine’s song “Hello in There” reading your post.

Sadly, John Prine also lost his life to this virus.

What this story does not say, is:

What co-occuring conditions may have contributed to this person’s expiring in the care of this skilled nursing facility? What was this person’s age?

It is extremely sad that the first victims, were SNF patients, and, that half of the fatal outcomes, nationwide, were SNF patients.

We are sorry for the loss to the families.

That is a lie and you know it. 46,000, 1/2 of the 92,0000 deaths in the US were not in skilled nursing homes. How can you possibly publicly post such an outrageous lie and think you won’t be exposed as a liar! Wow!

Many of the lies, are contained in news stories, every day, and, many more, are fed to you each day, by your local, state and federal government.

Nursing home deaths have been a feature of this epidemic from the start:

Each news source appears to be reporting a different number, but here is a useful tool:

https://www.aarp.org/caregiving/health/info-2020/coronavirus-nursing-home-cases-deaths.html

Believe what you want, but personally, I call this a national disgrace.

As a former employee of several different District Hospitals, I can tell you that conditions in SNF care, are often substandard, poor quality, and shocking. I have worked with commercial skilled nursing since 1984, in areas outside of Humboldt, and, I am continuously disturbed by the conditions people live with, in these facilities.

Some are markedly better. Many are very bad.

Get used to it. D614G is here. The west coast of the US was initially infected with the Wuhan strain because thats where most from China head to first. We went into distancing and masks and that strain never really made it out of the cities. However, this strain is very likely more contagious and appears to be more virulent. It is now making it’s way thru out the west coast after becoming the dominant strain in the rest of the US. This is not the time to say ‘wow, we made it” cause it aint.

Laugh all you want…..shits about to hit the fan.

“The research team analysed UK data from coronavirus patients in Sheffield. Although they found people with that particular mutation of the virus seemed to have a larger amount of the virus in their samples, they didn’t find evidence that those people became sicker or stayed in hospital for longer.” https://www.bbc.com/news/health-52557955

Who oked the government funding for the gain of function studies on bat corona viruses in NC in 2015? Is this a man-altered Corona virus, or a rapidly mutating one that finally jumped to humans from the wild?

I agree that shit’s about to hit the fan and this is no time to relax or let down your guard. However…the research on D614G does not yet show anything conclusive. They don’t even know if it is an actual different strain or just a random mutation that occurs in a population of the virus. Professional scientists do not jump to conclusions and hold open all possibilities that might explain what is observed. They intelligently couch their terms in words like “possible” and “potentially” because they don’t want to make definitive statements that may be false. It’s what has made the scientific method so effective. Unfortunately…it’s also a limitation that science inherently has. With a fast-moving virus we need immediate answers with which to make sound decisions. All we get with the scientific method are percentages of possibilities…yet still decisions must be made. I’m not knocking science! We will get some answers in time- just maybe not when we need them! I think the “flattening of the curve” is also an attempt to slow down the virus transmission in hopes that science can catch up and give us some clues for how to proceed…D614G is definitely worth bringing into a measured discussion. Thank You! It’s discovery just shows us how little we really know about this coronavirus. In any case the 2nd Wave is what we should be getting prepared for- we don’t even know when that will hit. November? July? We are flying blind.

If they actually CLEANED that place, maybe this would be more controlled. At least vacuum the clients rooms!

Alder Bay should be on complete lock down! Two deaths there are uncalled for. Sounds like they run a dirty ship and don’t use PPE equipment.
