Press release from the City of Eureka:

At a Special Open Session, Eureka City Council acted to accept the resignation of Former City Manager Dean Lotter and authorize the Mayor to execute a resignation agreement. Mr. Lotter’s resignation is effective immediately.

“We are appreciative for the work that Mr. Lotter performed during his tenure and the City Council wishes him success in his future pursuits,” Mayor Seaman said.

Based on the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act (OWBPA), which allows the former employee 7 days to revoke the agreement, the final agreement will not be available until 7 days from the date of Mr.

Lotter’s signature.

The city’s interim leadership plans, as announced previously, will remain in full effect until further notice. The process and timeline for selecting a new permanent City Manager will be announced at a later date.

Mayor Seaman, and Eureka City Council. I know it’s your job to say you appreciate Mr. Lotter’s service. Having been railroaded out of a County job myself, they said the same to me. However, there was zero percent sincerity in it. Nice try, but it is all BS.

Like I’ve been saying, the so-called city council of Eureke town are mostly in it for themselves and the money that they can get out of the citizens. Nothing really good has come out of their meetings at all, at least nothing has really hit the big time. It’s a wonder that they can get anyone from out of the area to apply for a job with the city as it is. Working for people that really doesn’t have a clue on how to run a city is a mismatch to start with for a newcomer to the North Coast. Good luck in the future Mr. Lotter with someone who would sincerely and really appreciate your services.

As a qualified local with education and experience for this position, I don’t want this job either. Eureka is a good old boys town with those that got theirs screwing everybody else while having a high and mighty righteous attitude about it. None of the people making the decisions there are qualified, because they got their job knowing somebody and work their way up without the education, and only have that job because they keep their head down while not making waves. The city of Eureka will continue to go downhill in economic and social decline until it’s citizens decide that it’s actually going to elect representatives that are not only qualified but are also going to actually make decisions in the best interest of everybody including the least among us.

Which period do you think was better for the “least” among us? You may feel free to skip periods of wars, pandemic, recession, depression but that will only leave an occasional decade or two to choose from. Of course prior to the baby boom, education was pretty much limited to high school, if that, so that might out a damper on your search for a golden age if that is one of your criterion.

Amazing the insite some people claim they have about subjects no one can reasonably have unless they were in the middle of the circle. Ponificating without credentials. Very miniscule crystal ball.

The press release refers to “interim leadership plans, as announced previously…”. But there is no press release or news story that covers any such previous release. So, what’s up?

I think we need more details here… placed on leave for the last month or so, now resigns…after being here 7 months, buying a new house, and from the looks of it 2 new cars… what happened?

You’ll never know until a copy of his separation agreement is made available (or leaked?) or the former city manager discloses the reason. You *will* hear plenty of rumors; take them with a grain of salt.

He will definitely return to Dunder Mifflan after Michael realizes his error. Staples is a waste of his talent.

I heard Mr. Lotter was planning on a press release. I’m interested in his side of the story. The City seems to be having a difficult time keeping staff.

Over the last several years there has been all kinds of shuffling of upper level city employees, what the hell is going on in Eureka?

Ask your elected city council. Better yet recall your city council members. Even better have somebody else run against those city council members in the next election and continually badger them at open forums. This is why it’s extremely important to elect qualified representatives who are going to look out for the interest of all constituents instead of just their own. In the meantime, I blame baby boomers for getting us into the situation with their decades of politics and sending greedy unqualified people to represent them within all levels of government.

You sound interested and engaged, have you considered running for a council seat?
