Additional Businesses Now Allowed to Reopen Under Updated Order of the Humboldt County Health Officer

Humboldt County Seal 2017Press release from the County of Humboldt:

Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich today issued an Order of the Health Officer to modify the Shelter-in-Place Order and allow additional businesses to reopen once their safety plan is approved.

Stage Two of the state’s four-stage reopening plan permits businesses that are associated with lower risk of COVID-19 transmission to resume operations. This Order incorporates those statewide changes into the county’s reopening process.

The Order also defines the factors that will determine how quickly Humboldt County moves through the Stage Two reopening process. Those factors include:

  • Trend in number of new cases and the time it takes for cases to double
  • Capacity of hospitals and the health care system to safely care for patients, including during a surge in new COVID-19 cases
  • Adequate supply of personal protective equipment for health care providers and personnel, including skilled nursing facilities and other congregate care settings
  • Testing capacity to identify new cases and their contacts in a timely manner
  • Ability to initiate and conduct case investigations for an increasing number of new cases and their contacts, including issuance of appropriate isolation and quarantine orders.

“I want to open businesses as fast as safely possible, so Public Health will follow the data very closely to determine the next steps forward for our county,” Dr. Frankovich said. “We need to be thoughtful and consider all aspects of our community’s health, including economic and mental health as we plan for further reopenings.”

Child care and office work for all workers, not just essential, are now approved under this Order once they have a certified Business Reopening Plan. Activities such as golf, tennis and volleyball are also allowed if played as singles not teams. Funeral gatherings of no more than 10 people may resume. However, remote and virtual services are still strongly recommended.

Most regulations from previous Orders are unchanged. Public and private gatherings of any size, with members outside of a person’s own household, continue to be prohibited. Residents must continue to limit activity outside of their residence except to seek or provide essential or low-risk services as defined by this Order. Those at high risk of severe illness from COVID-19 and people who are sick should stay in their residences except to seek medical care or access essential services. “It is still critically important that we avoid gathering with people outside of their household and limit our movement only to essential activities as much as possible. It takes all of us working together to slow the transmission of this virus,” Dr. Frankovich said.

All businesses, even those previously deemed essential and currently operating, must file a Business Reopening Plan with the county as outlined in the Order. Businesses may submit Reopening Plans for review and approval here: humboldtgov.org/2756/Business-Compliance

Ok so public restrooms are closed. People keep telling me their doctors say gloves dont help.

So to the county/city leaders why do we not have public handwash stations on every block?????

Those ones with the foot pump. With all our festivals here Im sure there are a bunch of them in county.Hire people to maintain them, people need jobs.
With all the uncertainty the one thing that seems true across the board is handwashing helps. The one known helper and we’re not making sure its everywhere???
Or pay non essential biz to use their bathrooms.
Figure something out please!!

Hand sanitizers not gonna cut it, the lab scientists are still not totally sure which disinfectant kills it on surfaces. Leaving a business to go to my car I could be carrying it. Going business to business it could be on my hands.
Not everyone testing positive around the world have fever so thats not good either.

Why is the county not helping businesses get good quality plug in air filters meant to filter molds&viruses????

It would be great if we could get re-usable gloves that we put on as we enter store then drop in bin as we exit. Bin goes to local hotels to wash in their super sterilizing washing machines. I know there are tons of seamstreses to hire to make the gloves. It creates more jobs too!

Lets use the innovative out of the box thinking we have so much of, that pretty much always creates positive outcomes. Lets make some long term plans. The virus isnt going away. Lets invest now.
If we open to tourism we really need some plans in place.
Science has told us the virus travels on shoes, how are we going to mitigate that?

It feels like this opening has nothing to do with health its all about the economy which of course is important but really if we’re asked to shut businesses for the betterment of all, small biz in particular should be getting lots of govt money.
This opening is basically a throw ya to the dogs vibe, they havent put any helpful measures in place, not done all that could be done to make it as safe as possible.

So these next weeks are going to be the most dangerous for transmissions. Its gonna be a general exposure for everyone and if youre healthy enough youll live. There will be a huge leap in cases in 10-15 days. Am hoping as few kids as possible here get that horrible covid inflammatory ailment!
If your child has lyme be especially careful.

Your hush money is now offered in credit card form only. They found out that people were cashing there stimulus checks for…. wait for it…. cash! Dirty infected cash. Only criminals use cash. God forbid you might go buy drugs with it or something! Essentials only fools! China is already getting rid of cash and Is installing a social “unified“ tracked money system.

Update, Cal trans is closing the last remaining rest area as of June 1. This is a very important area for Hundreds of southbound Hwy. 101 travelers. Where will all these people use the toilets? Answer: the side of the Hwy. bushes. Almost all public Loos are closed. Why will they close this one while the Northbound rest area is still closed for repair? For money! During a pandemic? Really? Like we need feces and pee galore piling up on our roadside? I hope people will join me in demanding portable toilets and handwash stations be set up at the Clam Beach. view point, and other areas we can pull off the Hwy. To get relief. This is a disaster waiting to happen. Health Department must provide portable toilets for travelers! Cal Trans is heartless money grubbers to do this to us during Pandemic!!Open Northbound rest area NOW!!
