Mendocino County Reports 14th COVID-19 Case

This is a press release from the County of Mendocino:

novel coronavirus Covid-19 MendocinoOn Friday evening May 15, 2020, the 14th Mendocino County COVID-19 case was reported to Public Health. The case investigation and contact tracing was immediately initiated by Public Health to learn the source of infection and ensure that asymptomatic contacts were quarantined and symptomatic contacts were tested and isolated. Initial findings of this investigation were determined and verified by Saturday evening, followed by a prompt Statement by Mendocino County on Saturday evening, identifying the 14th case as an elderly male living in the Ukiah Valley who is a close contact of two residents of Lake County, who themselves had been newly diagnosed with COVID-19 on Saturday afternoon.

The source of this outbreak involving three people has been determined to have happened at an inland Mendocino County church where a live stream church service with singing occurred on Mother’s Day. All three of the new cases (the 14th Mendocino County case and the two new Lake County cases) where at the venue during the live stream and two of the individuals participated in the live stream event with singing at the church. Mendocino and Lake County Public Health are working together to reach any other individuals who are contacts of these three new cases, including anyone who participated in the live stream church service with singing.

One of the Lake County residents was hospitalized at Adventist Health Ukiah Valley on Saturday. The other Lake County resident and the Mendocino County 14th case are in stable condition, in isolation, at their homes.

To protect privacy, Mendocino County is not releasing the name of the inland Mendocino church at this time, but is urging the church leaders to do so themselves in order to encourage members of the church to seek testing for COVID-19 and medical attention if needed.

Free COVID19 testing will be offered by Mendocino County Public Health on Tuesday, May 19 in Redwood Valley at Eagle Peak Middle School from 7:00 am – 2:00 pm. Any individuals who have participated in the production a live stream church service with singing in inland Mendocino County on Mother’s day and their close contacts are urged to come for this free testing if they are not sick, or to contact their medical provider and seek medical attention (call ahead) if they are sick.

It is critical for organizations where work groups engage in live-streaming of events follow section 14(p)(iii) of the Health Order by implementing the required safety measures and mitigating additional risk associated with singing like utilizing a plexiglass screen between singers in the same venue, proper ventilation, distancing greater than six feet and ensuring singers are not positioned face-to-face. The additional safety measures while signing can help prevent outbreaks seen in other areas of the Country like Washington State (https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6919e6.htm). Following the Facial Covering Order while at work is also an important step in stopping the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace.

Instead of letting this bit of news inconsistent with my new world views, silence me into numbly staring at the screen, looking for Obama’s fingerprints, I will rear up in my corner like an angry mole!
Instead of meekly declaring victory and moving on, as we start reopening business, Our Movement shall turn to fighting the tyranny of traffic lights! They are a centrally controlled social conformation tool. I am a good driver! I don’t need Pelosi’s “Highway Patrol” thought police gestapo telling me what I can and can not do. Join Us at the Court House next Friday! We will all drive on the left side of the road! My FREEDOM is more important than anything else! We will have adult diapers available so you don’t have Fauci’s liberty goons telling us where and when to poop! Just fire yourself already Public Health Director NERD!

If this is an honest opinion, I worry for the human condition. Why so angry? And to speak Ill and place blame on ones you have never met, have we no value left? This articles subject was about someone getting sick. I don’t know how you do it Kim, I think I’d have to not allow comments and just report. I now feel like a troll.

I read it as a swipe at recent protestors and some of their statements.

Pretty funny.

A lot of people are serious when they type similar statements, but the traffic light attack is a good sign of sarcastic wit.

For the record, Kym seems to have sat on it for a sec to reflect on the offensiveness, and edited some silly name calling in the title. As the writer, this forced me to do some soul searching. I now realize that, at times, I must sacrifice some ( but not much) of my personal freedoms for the good of the more vulnerable in society, and for my future well being. I just hope that if I issue a statement that must end up moderated or in the round file, that Kym gets a chuckle. Sometimes humor helps underscore irony, or contradiction. I hope!

It is sad when singing in a choir is more important than keeping people healthy. Some people have their priorities focused only on themselves. How many god fearing selfish people were in the choir? When and where did they go in the week after Mother’s Day? My bet everyone lsitening to the choir would have given it up if they knew people were going to be sick. Was it worth it?

There is very little outdoor transmission; if they had been out on the lawn (epecially socially distanced) they would have been much less likely to have infected anyone. Wuhan researchers found very little to no detectable virus outdoors in the city at the height of the virus spread. Researchers specifically looking for “multiple spread” outdoor events found several hundred indoor events with multiple spread and only one outdoors with a spread to 2 people.

This happened in Skagit County, Washington State in March, and several of the choir people died. When you’re singing you’re shedding even more virus.

CNN is reporting that 180 people attended a Mothers’ Day service in Butte County. Covid 19 positive tests already reported. Does anyone know why the churches in question cannot be named? If there is a case of salmonella from a batch of tainted lunch meat (for example), the batch number is made public and the consumer then knows what to do. I am sure that people who attended all of these services have told family and friends of their actions, so immediately publishing the details allows invididuals to act pro actively, not ‘wait and see’ if there is community transmission. Anyone who has been in contact with any of the 180 reported church goers/family members/friends/co workers could then immediately quarantine AND inform public health of their situation. This is a pandemic, so why is there no leadership? America is full of MPHs and all these endless new certifications, yet we have to sit and wait for the next weekly briefing whilst reading articles about how most of the rest of the world has concrete strategies in place. If children become infected in any of the northern rural counties there aren’t pediatric hospitals. Why on Mothers’ Day there were the most egregious violations of SIP, is beyond comprehension. My grandmothers had to take their young children into the garden bomb shelters at night while their husbands were out on Air Raid Patrol (both were too old for WWII, but served WW1). There is a difference in our situations.

Thanks for your thoughts. It seems to me that the secrecy of the site of transmission is to spare the participants the embarrassment of grown adults celebrating the easter bunny, et al.

Boosting your immune system and exercising and meditation and working keep you healthy.. But still no mention.. Im sorry but other peoples health is not my responsibility nor is my health anyone elses.. Bring your door handles. Ill lick em.

So do you believe that you have a right to drive drunk and kill people, because their health is not your responsibility? Do you believe that it is okay to yell “Fire” in a crowded building because the health and safety of the crowd is not your responsibility? What about shooting a gun randomly on the street? If you did that and someone got shot, do you believe it’s their fault and not your responsibility? Just asking.

Geez, some people doesn’t seem to Consider that it can be their own Family that contacts this Virus . I’m a Disabled Senior and lived a Colorful life but I have Grandchildren and Greats and I’d sell my Soul if there was a Guarentee that they would be Safe from this. The Younger ones are getting Stricken with an unknown illness that’s Killed some and Research is being done because it very well could be related to Covid 19. Strokes are being seen in young Adults. The young Children are getting like the Kawasaki disease . (Sorry I might have gotten the name wrong there but I remember reading and remembering it sounded like the bike) Everyone is on the same boat. Either you can Jump Ship and hope you don’t Drown taking your Family with you or Stay on board and Ride thru the Storm.

Florida is a red state has a large elderly population, international travel, had a student invasion when the virus began ( spring break), and a fraction of the cases Blue NY has.
Seems to hold true all across the Country that red states have done better. What about that statistic? Shouldn’t we investigate why?

I don’t think it helps to further the politics being played in the health crisis, but for conversations sake:

How have red states done better in your opinion?

There may be many definitions or ideas of why.

What I would say, is if you look at the death per million at a red state and blue state separation, they aren’t doing better.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

Especially considering the lower population levels of most red states and the difference of population densities.

Of course NY and major cities, majority of which are in blue states, would be hit hard.

But SF was projected to be much worse, with a higher travel rate to/from China.

Fortunately SF became the first city in the Nation to issue SIP, and then CA became the first State to issue SIP.

That is being credited as to our big blue state success, so far.

https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/05/12/chart-how-many-bay-area-coronavirus-deaths-did-stay-at-home-orders-possibly-prevent/

Look at that link above.

In the past 2 months, SIP orders may have saved 200,000 lives nation-wide. Tens of thousands would have been in CA.

The results estimate that more than 188,000 hospitalizations and 19,000 deaths were avoided in the Bay Area’s largest cities — Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose — based on 60-day shelter-in-place/stay-at-home orders.

Not to mention perhaps up to 2.1 million hospitalizations across the US have been avoided.

In a recent and fair criticism of Cuomo in NY, he was shown the SIP orders by Bill de Blasio weeks before issuing them.

https://www.businessinsider.com/new-york-san-francisco-cuomo-dismiss-shelter-in-place-coronavirus-2020-5?amp

He was resistant to the idea at first, if you remember.

It cost the State lives, especially de Blasio’s NYC district.

So, what have you?
