Protesters Angry at Stay-at-Home Orders Gather Near the Humboldt County Courthouse Today
As state and county governments seek to fight the novel cornavirus with laws designed to keep people apart, a small crowd of about 50 people gathered in front of the Humboldt County courthouse just before noon today to protest the orders.
A number of drivers passing by on 5th Street beeped support.
In spite of an order requiring facial coverings when standing closer than 6 feet, most of those gathered are not wearing masks.Last week, after protests at the State Capitol, the California Highway Patrol banned similar gatherings there as the agency said that the group didn’t follow health directives.
Supervisors Rex Bohn and Virgina Bass are at the protest.
We’ll update as more unfolds.

The nation’s billionaires thank you for doing their bidding and risking your lives for sociopaths that view you as human cattle. Liberty decoded. lol
30,000,000 workers put out in the streets, to thrive on unemployment!
A new record!
Great idea, social distancing/stay at home!
OH! Have YOU received your “stimulus payment”?
I haven’t…
I have received my stimulus, and more importantly I am staying at home! Also wearing my mask wherever I go and so should everyone! I was shopping yesterday and happened to meet a older man who was very scared about being out in public as he just got done with chemo last week and as I look around I see two younger ladies without masks and it made me fearful for him as well. I asked the girls very nicely why they weren’t wearing masks? They said they forgot them in the car so I gestured to the man I spoke to and explained how he was frightened and all we needed to do to make him not so frightened was just a simple little thing and I told them just imagine running to the store because you have no choice and risking dying because of it! For these protesters to say there rights are being violated, well what about my rights? And what about the rights of that gentleman? What gives anyone the right to risk another’s life? Over 1 million people died so far! 1 million people! Don’t be children, take some responsibility!
Maybe if we lived in an area that has people dying left and right but this irrational fear is manipulative.
Swine,
thanks,
well stated.
I would hope the gentleman who just had chemo has someone who can go to the store and do his shopping and errands for him, that would be the best thing. If Humboldt County has a Cancer Resource Center (Mendocino has one that is absolutely top notch) perhaps they can help him with this if he has no one to help. He should not have to go out shopping, especially if he is fearful. Very sad to hear.
235k deaths worldwide not 1 millionhttps://news.google.com/covid19/map?hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US:en
There you go, irrational fear, and phony news…
Wait for the food shortages, coming right up!
When millions are starving, I hope you will let someone leave their home.
Meanwhile, plenty of essential marijuana available!
Once again, all those SNF patients that died, are now dead, and no longer available to expire…
Time to let the herd roam freely…
30,000,000 workers put in the streets? Are you implying that those 30,000,000 are suffering?
I’d like to report a violation. Two males northbound 101 leaving Eureka sitting in the front seat of a Hoopa office of emergency services truck. Neither are wearing masks.
Do as they say not as they do.
Snitches everywherr
“Risking your lives” Remind me, how many people in Humboldt have succumbed to C-19?
Just your average moron trump supporters
Go protesters!
Good job!
True Americans.
Yeah, like the armed guys in Michigan that spit on the cops in the capital. Where are you self-righteous freedom fighters and defenders of the police now? [edit] Funny how your chain can be yanked in any direction needed by the manipulators. Amerika is screwed. We’re circling your toilet faster and faster.
Nobody was armed at the protest today except probably rex had a concealed piece. These people aren’t all right wing. Can you put politics aside for a minute? These are your fellow citizens. Many are losing their ability to support their families. Try having some understanding. People are concerned about their rights. It’s proper.
It’s not legal for a CCW holder to carry at a protest. So… if Rex was packing he was breaking the law…
Prove it? 🤥
I was at the Court House today. I am a small business owner. I am making ends meet. Many of my friends are not going to be able to pay their mortgages and feed their family. This shut down is devasting.
Good job!
Go protesters!
About double the amount last week.
Maybe next week double that.
True patriots.
“Patriots”? Puh-leeze…..
Elvis,
Puleez
Can’t wait for those morons to come down with Covid and stay off the streets. No masks.
Even assuming that diseases work that way–the whole point of SIP orders is to keep the disease from spreading and these folks, if infected, would spread it to non-believers–they are also humans with children, mothers, pets, and worries about losing their homes. Let’s keep from hating people who believe differently than us. I suspect that you would take their hand if you fell over a cliff and I suspect you’d offer one if they fell. Don’t let the distance of the internet make you forget kindness.
A rare call for civility in these times. You’re a good person.
Non believers?
People who don’t believe the same way the protesters do.
Your comment on this protest is just not correct. We do not have to be “hating” on this folks, we simply might be upset that they are viewing this health issue challenge with such a “political slant”. There should be NO RUSH on restoring our business’s until it is safe…and Newsome is doing a great job balancing this tragic situation we are all dealing with. I have noticed in the past you enjoy playing both sides…some how it makes you feel “open minded” and “tolerant”. Parading together, even with children and no face masks, is just simply WRONG! Tell it like it is Kym, instead of playing in the lane of “beige”. Just my humble opinion. That the supervisor’s were present is even more insulting to all of us who have remained sheltered in place, dealing with all the hardships associated with it. I am a live in IHSS care provider for a 24 hour protective care client who at 89, cannot risk being exposed to this deadly virus. I have worked 13 hour shifts for 48 days, with no relief or visits in our house. I am sure none of those 50 people are “starving” or “exhausted”, they are simply impatient. They are expressing their anger at rules being imposed on them in order to protect ALL OF US. I do not support their effort in any way, shape or form.
It is possible to disagree with someone without wishing they would come down with COVID.
Thank you.
Thank you Kyme.
But Ms. Kemp, these lemmings are willing to do whatever their handlers tell them. Easily manipulated. They’ll RUN off the cliff if trump wants them to. That’s the whole point. It’s pretty darn sad.
What’s sad is that so many people share your view of the world in black and white.
I for one am not a lemming. Nor do I have a handler. Sorry I can’t say the same about you.
Ok, so I can’t help it. According to your leaders, our leaders, the leading experts and scientists the plan is that 70 percent of the population will get infected to get herd immunity. We’re just spreading it out over a longer time. How many times have you got the flu and went out in public without a second thought that your actions will indirectly kill someone?
“Is it better to be RIGHT or KIND?”
Thanks for reminding us to be kind, Kim.
Downriver,
Calling people morons for them exercising their freedom of speech is moronic, [edit]
Is that ok kyme,
repeating the disparaging remark back to them or will that be deleted also?
If you delete my remark please delete downrivers remark they directly called me a moron.
So please let this comment stand or delete their comment.
Even lost coast is more fair than this.
Again it’s your blog you can do what you want, just be nice to know.
Fos, I’m tired, my heart hurts, and I don’t have the energy for dealing with people who spend their time slinging insults directly at others. You don’t like what I do, then you have other options.
You got on here and spammed a number of insulting comments directed at single commenters as opposed to general comments like “liberals are idiots”, “Scientists don’t know beans from bull,” etc. Group insults are allowed. Insults directed at a single commenter aren’t. I’ve it explained it to you and now you want to try and parse the rules. Ain’t nobody got time for this shit.
I’m editing this one but then I’m deleting any after that. I may have missed an insult by someone else but you threw so many in such a short time that I didn’t miss you.
I agree.
Social shaming is a thing that even Humboldt’s media participates in. Every one of those protesters represents many more who, for all sorts of reasons, are afraid or embarrassed to show themselves in public as protesting an opinion counter to the status quo. Like protesting the Patriot Act after nine eleven. Unfortunately, it increasingly begets scorn, ridicule and shame from the media, in the land of the free. Something’s not right.
Embarrassed to show themselves? They are encouraged to wear a mask.
Buzzkill,
Best in thread.
The point of a protest is to gather media coverage for your point of view…How is it shaming them to cover what’s happening?
Kim, it is my understanding that masks ARE REQUIRED when you are outside, as well as being within six feet of another person. Wonder how long it will be before they cause a traffic accident by acting like clowns. This needs to stop!
“Patriotic” clowns, that is…
There were many families at this protest; are families required to stand 6′ apart from each other wearing facemasks when in the open air? It is time to turn off the mass media and turn on our brains. It’s ‘safe’ and legal to kill a fully-developed baby in or outside the womb but it’s ‘unsafe’ and illegal to congregate in the open air without a facemask? Clearly our educational system is failing when we hear this lack of reason and logic. The best thing about this lockdown is the closure of the brain-washing, idealogue factories know as “public schools”.
I support the protest but not the rightwing talking points you are dragging into this thread. Can we try to stick to the articles subject matter. Your playing the right left thing is so divisive. He’s buddhist, she’s christian, he’s muslim….etc
The thing that we are all connected by is the constitution. That’s what this is about to many people. The at risk and worried people should be able to shelter as long as they want. The county should deliver groceries etc to them.
The ability to analyze and protest laws concerning ‘safety’ and ‘legality’ as determined by the state is what is being questioned. Laws such as abortion make the same ‘safe/legal’ claims as those of facemasks and social distancing. Public schools have been given the responsiblity for educating the minds of the majority of Americans. That our people think we must accept laws without questioning their logic and morality directly points to the failure of state-run “education”.
You’re right, lamentably reason and logic tend to be found mostly on the side of the right-wing, social conservative. I like your idea about at-risk or fearful people self-quarantining. That is reasonable and logical!
yes, local farmer nailed it, it’s about the U S Constitution
Suzanne,
thanks,
well put.
Cheers. Keep fighting the good fight.
I never said anything about the right being more logical. I don’t buy into either.
The conservative has a least one advantage in logic. Being conservative generally means supporting policy that already exists. Liberals on the other hand want the government to enforce things that don’t yet exist but they want to exist. The risk with that is not only that it may not be possible it can exist but the attempt to create it may have unexpected and negative fall out.
Guest: great comment. Yes this is true. The conservative looks at what’s been done throughout History to inform the present.
There is a place for liberalism and innovation but all within the bounds of a good knowledge and understanding of History. Lenin, Stalin, Mao Tse Tung and the current persecution of the Chinese under the CPC should be enough to dissuade Americans from socialism and communism but many still seem to think this is a great idea. This reveals a real lack of historical knowledge (public schools?). These are not just failed attempts at Utopia but rather the inevitable consequences of an inherently evil ideology.
Local Farmer,
You called my logical and reasonable arguments about being forced to wear masks (because the alternative is supposedly unsafe and illegal) “right-wing”. I don’t believe in putting labels on things either.
It was your other comment about public schools I was referring to as a rightwing talking point. I totally agree with you on our freedom to assemble and get back to supporting our families. I don’t think of that as a right left thing and I’m trying to help dispel the notion that it is. The media is obviously using this right left narrative to create more division.
Cool. Thanks for being so level-headed. I totally agree, kill the mass media. As a former public school teacher and a current homeschooler I am opposed to the model of public school education. The family has always been the primary educator of children not the state since time immemorial. Now we have professional “educators” teaching kids that there is no objective reality and truth is all about subjective feelings, there is no History nor logic taught in schools. A scripted curriculum can be taught by anyone and most elementary teachers are not experts in any field other than classroom management. I am not criticizing them personally nor their intentions, I criticize the system that we have been led to believe is the “norm”. It is no small wonder that people just do what they are told by the media and the oligarchs without questioning the narrative. They have been doing it from Pre-K on.
Bingo : )
Your bias is showing Kim, I see smiling people in the photos that are 6′ apart. Your lens need to be adjusted to neutral, if possible. I know this post will be deleted as soon as you see it. Reflects on you character and fairness.
🕯🌳I see more people standing in close knit groups than I see standing 6′ feet apart. Maybe you need to go get your eyes checked. 👁👁🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Maybe inject some disinfectant while your at it.🖖🐸🌍
MeTooSexyJoe, your first two sentences are great, however you lose credibility with the last two sentences.
The point of a protest is not to gather media coverage. That is a side effect. The real point of a protest is to tell someone or something you disagree. Media or no media.
Yes.. media coverage is to make sure that the people you want to reach hear you. We’re sort of megaphones sometimes.
Sort of sometimes.. In this day and age tho it can b a megaphone for whatever the bias of said media is. Fire and flood news maybe the exceptions among others
Not refering to you. Specific writers on other popular “news” blogs often include editorials around, and asides within, their “reports” that are outright insults, and often very mean and uncalled for. Certainly not objective journalism. You’re doing great, and engage readers more than any of them tenfold. You’re clearly prepared to follow through in comments regarding your articles, even when…er…if you’re full of shit. Thank you.
It’s true! Something’s not right. These people should be cited and fined for violating public safety orders, and these idiotic demonstrations should be broken up. I suggest increasing fines and adding contempt charges every time they show back up.
Trump has them all jazzed up. It’s hilarious.😂😂😂😂
Yeah, he’s sure doing a great job of uniting the country! After 9/11 just about everybody got behind Bush. This Clown is just reading off Putin’s playlist. ‘Puppet’ is too kind of word! ‘Traitor’ is closer.
It’s also true that these people are practicing their constitutional rights. The gov order to stay at home and for businesses to shutter their doors does not hold water. Just as everybody else has the right to shelter in place for as long as they want these people have the right to assemble, practice freedom of unimpeded travel etc. etc. Do you think everybody should be forced to be vaccinated against the virus should one be developed? Please don’t think I’m a trump supporter or a liberal for my views on freedom and the constitution because I’m neither. I’m a freedom loving person.
Well said. Live free or die.
How old are you? And I ask with respect, it’s that now that I’ve been roaming on this planet for 60 years I just wonder because I felt just as you do 30 years ago, just curious.
Not sure if you’re asking me or Paul. I’m 44 with 6 children and a wife I am supporting. I support your right to shelter in place and receive groceries and other necessities at your door so you don’t have to take risks by going to the store. Do you support my right to feed my family with the sweat of my brow?
Was just going to ask if you were married. Oh well.
Seriously, I am appreciating your comments. Common sense being rare as hen’s teeth these days.
: )
The Constitution is the law. Right to assemble is Constitutionally protected. Any State law that opposes the Constitution is unlawful. Over 99% recovery rate does not warrant a shutdown, otherwise we would shut down every year for the flu and pneumonia season.
Unfortunately people will die, maybe people I know, before herd immunity is achieved. In California data shows there is a only 1 in 100,000 chance of dying from the Corona virus.
Um this is america remember? Youre allowed to protest…
What?! This isn’t communist China?
that’s not going to happen.
So you want to get rid of our right to assemble?
Looks like a klan rally,
A lynch mob mentality for sure.
I bet that roofer guy was in there somewhere.
The reporter was lucky to get out alive
Klan rally? You are just as brainwashed as a trumo supporter.
I for one appreciated his sarcasm.
Simpatico…
Thank you Shannon and Rex!!! and everyone else.
President George Washington said, “When any great object is in view, the popular mind is roused into expectation, and prepared to make sacrifices of both ease and property.” Redefining the role of public health activities by rearticulating the social pact that gives the state the power to protect the community is essential. We face a dangerous world. Regaining our commitment to a comprehensive and effective public health umbrella is a matter of survival.
10th and 14th amendments of the Constitution.
All court challenges based on 10th and 14th amendment so far struck down by courts when concerning communicable disease. Always free to try try again.
Really Kym, “ANGRY”?
Showing your bias? Trying to “paint” them? I hope not.
A more neutral headline might have been Protesters “concerned” or “worried” about…
I want the stores to open up as much as the next. But it is pointless until the science and medical people are done with the studies.
🕯🌳I’ll second that. 🇺🇸📡🇺🇸🇺🇸
Do you need permission?
They will not be done for years.
hear hear!!
Oh, pul-leeeze, guest. Go back to Fox News if you can’t handle the truth.
They are just like blow flies during deer season. Not a one in sight until you harvest a deer. It is time for the Sheriff’s Department to arrest the ones without masks. I got a kick out of Bohn talking to a protestor, and they both were wearing masks.
Our economy is on the brink of collapse. The cops tell you take care things yourself in the hills and everyone should shelter in place and just wait til the overlords tell it’s ok to come out. Wonder how many restaurants and commercial retail spaces will be a available to rent after this. Everyday we are forced into becoming reliant on amazon deliveries and minimum shipping and dining out. Are we just supposed to forget those habits after they tell us it’s ok to go out into public regular again. MAD RIVER HOSPITAL JUST FURLOUGHED A HUGE % OF THIER STAFF. OUR FRONTLINE HEALTHCARE WORKERS ARE BRING THROWN OUT INTO THE STREETS AFTER RISKING THIER LIVES TOPROTECT US.
There arent any frontnline workers in humbokdt risking their lives for covid.. If anything the hospitals are less busy.
Except they, and all the workers out there, don’t know if the person they encounter has COVID-19–so yes, they are risking their lives. Not as much as medical staff on a COVID ward in NYC right now but more than they would ordinarily.
Well that is alleged fear with no data to justify it.
10 community transmissions , Humboldt is not a hotbed corona . Read the studies; the asymptomatic transmissions happen in tight-knit circles; families; nursing homes ;communities where there’s already significant community transmission. We’ve got none of that . It’s an unwarranted worry! The doctors themselves already know even the n95 masks don’t stop transmission in a clinical setting , how are masks supposed to work out here in public ? Especially when people are constantly touching them and resorting to using the weakest thing like a freaking bandana in order to “comply?” It’s a joke. Cannot wait for this to be over .
Fear mongering.. We all risk our lives everyday we live. To act like deathbis beating down their doorstep is just fear mongering. Be better than that.
Swine, I’m joined by respected scientists and medical professionals so I’m pretty comfortable that I’m not fear-mongering.
How do u know they arent fear mongering? As a politcally and socially neutral person in real life with a line of work youd understand as much as a kingergardner understands nasa, all i see and hear is fear porn.
Well, you are entitled to your rather insulting opinion of my ability to research–I did graduate with honors from Berkeley so I’m fairly comfortable that I’m not at a Kindergarten level. The part I don’t understand is how you think thousands of experts and world leaders from all political persuasions decided to scare everyone. And then folks started dying and nurses from Humboldt went back to NYC and came back with horror stories. How would this all be coordinated?
How do you get all these folks to work together? How come Russia’s leaders and Canada are both spouting similar lines? How come scientists in Trump’s administration are roughly matching scientists in South Korea? First, why would they spout crap–what do they all have to gain? And how come there are no reputable scientists saying that COVID-19 is a hoax?
Fact check this!
COVID-19 comes along and now we need a vaccine, and there is going to be a meat shortage, too?🤔
And Gates just happens to come to the rescue with a Vaccine and artificial meat?😟
And prior to any of this, Gates funds a simulation (Event 201) about this very scenario (a global pandemic created by a new SARS-like coronavirus) a month before it actually happens?👇
And Fauci funded $7.4 million in gain-of-function research to the Wuhan lab for the express purpose of generating a viral mutant capable of crossing over from bats to humans just so that they would be ready in case it happens someday? After a moratorium was placed, and then subsequently lifted for this type of research? And right when Phase II of this funded program kicks in in 2019, this very virus they were attempting to genetically create in the Wuhan lab shows up in the population in Wuhan?👇
And Fauci is also a lead council member of the Gates Foundation’s Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP)?
Food for thought.
There is much more than what we are being told.
We were not trained in the Machiavelli thought process, (like Kissenger), and therefore most of us don’t have the training manuals to walk yourself through the dark side of this
Problem, reaction,
Solution.
“Cloward and Piven”.
Intelligence isn’t a necessary marker for wisdom.
One question that is not too easy to answer.
Who benefits from these policies?
Who benefits from this virus?
Who benefits from the in-fighting?
You May Not Find The Answers You Like, But It’s Important To Know This World Is Controlled By people who are interested in more than money.
This onion has many layers.
Keep digging.
Or just keep pointing the finger at your neighbors.
I’ve got limited time. So let’s just look at one…
As evidence that Gates is responsible for COVID-19, you say, “Gates funds a simulation (Event 201) about this very scenario (a global pandemic created by a new SARS-like coronavirus) a month before it actually happens?”
Without doing any research at all, I question why anyone would unleash something on the world to make money and then………..before they unleash it gather experts together to learn together what could happen and how they could best fight it….
If that makes sense to you, then there’s probably not a whole lot of facts you and I are going to agree on.
It’s hard to understand the methods, if you don’t know the goal.
Look at all the science fiction movies that have been released in the last 50 years.
There is a term, called telling” truth through fiction”.
As far as the people in government and it’s advisors. Look to the recent General Flynn revelations to know how dirty the bad actors can play.
You ask Why?
They mostly likely would answer, “because this is our vision of the future”.
Everyone lies.
GO BEARS!
I was saying that you wouldnt understand my line of work.. Not that you are a bad reporter.. But i also think you are just as taken in by the mass fear as anyone else… 2 million 3million people infected is not even a percent of the world population. There may not b a man behind the curtain but the ability for thought and fear to travel thr globe is exponential and real. Research on the internet os different than traving around to see whats happening on the ground.. Andnin humboldt.. Not much as far as covid except of lots of scarred folks.
We flattened the curve.
We…everyone who didn’t go to a party, who didn’t go to a class, who took extra precautions when out in public…we flattened the curve.
This is an amazing testament to what humans can do. Why ignore it?
You can see the curve of deaths begin to flatten about two weeks after restrictions are put in place.
And while I’m not ready to throw off all the restrictions, I’m ready to cautiously…listening to scientists…begin relaxing a few of them.
Try not to undo the amazing work we’ve all done so far by throwing off the restrictions too fast.
And remember, the low end estimates of deaths through August were 60,000. We’ve already surpassed that at the beginning of May.
Swine,
Well put.
Granted, I am pretty much a coastal dweller (city boy) but does anyone else hear the irony of hill folk saying that the cops are telling them to take care of things themselves and then complaining about Amazon deliveries?
You’re either in or you’re out…
This has to stop,
thx is well put.
The protesters w/o masks should be given masks. If they refuse to wear one they should be advised to go home. If they refuse both of those options they should be fined, then arrested and removed if necessary. Not for protesting- God Bless them they have every right to do that! But for flaunting the public space orders in a very real medical emergency. If the cops won’t do that and instead insist on spending their resources going after a small clone bust down in Garberville then…wtf kind of a public health and safety message is that?! And I would hope that Supervisors Bohn and Bass agree with me on this…
I’m confused why do they have to wear a mask outside? I believe the order was to wear a mask inside Of grocery stores or businesses. I didn’t think it was important will to wear it outside in the open Fresh air. Maybe I miss read that. But I’m pretty sure and less somebody is coughing in their face they are OK to not wear it outside if they choose not to. If any of the protesters that are there are worried they can move away from each other as well.
The order says to wear a facial covering in “Any outdoor space where individuals are unable to maintain at all times a distance of six feet from others.” https://kymkemp.com/2020/04/21/facial-coverings-mandatory-in-humboldt-county-starting-friday/
Unconstitutional law.
Thank you for using your brain. It is unbelievable the amount of sheeple in the world. Newsflash: everything the globalist oligarchs tell us to do does not need to be obeyed. No wonder our country is a mess.
Hahaha.. I love old deadhheads that just do whatbthe govt tells them to. Lmao.. Im uncle sam, thats who i am. Been hiding out, in a rocknroll band
(Here’s the thing)…
We’re all confused,
(so) what’s to lose?
(Swine)… I’ll drink your health,
share your wealth,
run your life,
(Hell, I’ll…) steal your wife!
(So, go ahead and…)
Wave that flag,
wave it wide and high!
My wife wouldnt let ya 😉. No need to adlib on robert hunter lyrics. They are fine without it.
🙂
The protesters w/o masks should be offered masks. And I would hope that Supervisors Bohn and Bass agree with me on this…They have every right to be frustrated and protest. But flaunting the emergency health and safety orders is not okay.
Double Farce!
That is a farce!
Yes and I was corrected above….masks do not need to be worn outside if you can keep 6 feet from others. So my entire point about masks was wrong and …pretty much a farce! I support peoples’ right to protest. I don’t agree with these protesters. I just hope they practice social distancing and stay healthy!
Flaunting or speaking out against policy that is causing way more damage.
Why does YouTube censor 2 California doctors who disagree with the W.H.O?
This is why people disregard orders that create more suffering. It’s our right and duty to hold the system accountable for the money it demands from its citizens and then DOES NOT REPRESENT.
“Shall not be infringed”
(With your permission of course)
Muh FREEDOM to infect is preserved.
Selfish fucks.
I think you might be talking about the NIH, and WHO.
Bill Gates, and his Pharma Phriends, stand to be given a blank check with little oversight.
So your comment is spot on.
HOW DARE THESE PEOPLE NOT GIVE UP THEIR FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS!!! THEY SHOULD DO WHAT I WANT. MY GOD DO THEY NOT UNDERSTAND THAT THE FIRST AMENDMENT ONLY MATTERS WHEN I WANT TO DO SOMETHING? AS SOON AS SOMEONE GETS SICK, THE FIRST AMENDMENT IS INVALID!!!!! HOW HARD IS THIS TO UNDERSTAND. OBEY OBEY OBEY STOP QUESTIONING. UNTIL THERE IS A 0% CHANCE THAT LEAVING YOUR HOME MIGHT END UP IN SOMEONE ELSE DYING NO ONE SHOULD LEAVE THERE HOME. UNTIL ALL CHANCE OF DEATH IS COMPLETELY ERADICATED, EVERYONE SHOULD GIVE UP THEIR RIGHTS. WHY IS THAT HARD TO DO? GIVE UP EVERYTHING PLEASE UNTIL THERE IS NO MORE DEATH IN THE WORLD.
IF THAT MEANS MILLIONS ARE OUT OF WORK, AND MILLIONS STARVE, NO PRICE IS TOO HIGH TO SAVE A LIFE.
HOW CAN ANYONE DRIVE?? DO YOU KNOW THAT THERE’S A CHANCE SOMEONE MIGHT GET INTO AN ACCIDENT? HOW DARE ANYONE HAS SEX ANYMORE? DO YOU REALIZE THERE ARE STDS? HOW DARE YOU USE ELECTRONIC DEVICES?? THOSE DEVICES CONTAIN COBALT, AND PEOPLE ARE EXPLOITED AND SOME DIE MINING THAT. HOW DARE YOU?? ALL BEACHES NEED TO BE CLOSED. WHAT IF SOMEONE DROWNS? HOW DARE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DO NOT QUESTION ME. IF YOU DO, YOU DON’T CARE ABOUT ANYONE BUT YOURSELF AND YOU ARE SELFISH AND SHOULD BE CANCELLED. YOU DON’T MATTER. YOUR OPINION IS INVALID AND YOU ARE JUST A CORPORATE SHILL. YOU CAN’T CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE. OBVIOUSLY THE FACT THAT YOU ARE UNEMPLOYED, UNABLE TO PAY YOUR RENT, BARELY ABLE TO BUY FOOD, AND WANT TO CHANGE YOUR SITUATION IS JUST YOU BEING SELFISH. YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY SUFFERING. IF NOT GO TO HELL.
Oh my, so angry and so wrong.
This is what we call subtext.
“Double speak” is the best way to describe what we hear from our public servants and bureaucracy, when they get up in front of the cameras, and say something else, but all the while thinking like the above mentioned comment.
Double speak.
Karen,
true that!
Thanks.
Hello Karen: I want to answer to your first paragraph: When you give up your rights HISTORY has proven that the government doesn’t give them back until there is a bloody physical fight. I hope that this won’t be the case! BUT as a veteran I’ve seen this as the third Coup D’etat I’ve witnessed—JFK, 9/11 and now Covid 19. As to your second paragraph: QUOTE: If that means millions are out of work, and millions will starve, no price is too high to save a life (singular). That seems just a little bit over reacting to something that just might be overblown in the first place. Are all the Covid 19 deaths really attributed soley to the virus or where alot of deaths had many underlining ailments. i.e. Nursing homes, Veteran homes, and what I’ve read is the ventilators killed alot of people. I MIGHT have had this virus in early March, I had a slight fever 1-2 points and chills for 5 straight days. It didn’t prevent me from doing anything that I would normally do, which if it was Covid 19 I attribute my minor case to being healthy. (I have never read anything by any health PROFESSIONAL about consuming Vit D, lots of Vit C, Zinc which slows the replication and admission into the cell, selenium which helps turn on the inmune system. Cooking with ONIONS, GARLIC, TUMERIC and PEPPERS which happen to be all anti-virals) I also love cooking with MUSHROOMS. Pharma drugs used per prescription kill way over 100,000 people a year. Is that a criminal act? Do we shut down Big Pharma over those numbers? I’m scared the commie Dem governors ( I’m a registered democrat) (Being a Democrat has changed their philosophy in the last 10 years or so) are not going to give us our rights back. TIME will tell.
Lol, these protesters acting like stay at home orders are their own version of the civil rights movement. Hilarious.
LOL lol lol right? How dare these people think they should have a say in anything. I don’t even understand why we have a constitution anymore at all. Is the constitution more important than listen to the experts and doing what we’re told? Of course not. I even think police officers should be able to just immediately shoot and kill people that are outside. Isn’t that better than taking a chance people get infected?
Does the 6’ rule even apply if masked? It doesn’t apparently inside a building so why would it apply outside in the sunshine?
#hypocriticalORDERS
#nonsensicalORDERS

Yeah,sure..
No one is going to be laughing when a depression hits us and there are severe food shortages and people come for YOUR supply. If you didn’t live through the Great Depression or have talked to someone who has you are missing out! This is a real fear unless you are one of the royals aka government employees.
It’s an unenforceable order.
Prove they have received notice of the order, aren’t exempt, and don’t live with the person within 6’? If they exercise their right to not answer incriminating questions how do you prove otherwise?
Who broke the law? The person in their 6’ circle or the person who entered it? Who entered it first. Does the first person have a duty to walk away?
This isn’t like driving on the roads where the rules are clear and defined by lines and signs.
Like I said, unenforceable. Happy May Day Comrades!
selfish fuck
Hey furies please shelter in place as long as your selfless self wants to. Your disregard for civil communication was dully noted on your first comment. Take a history course on political science. If people practicing their constitutional rights are fucks, you haven’t a clue about our foundation as a free country.
👍well said.
This is the first time I’ve been disappointed in my fellow Northcoasters en mass… I do hope the vitriol is a reflection of the minority.
All day every day
“The first places open for regular business should be government buildings and offices. Starting in DC.
If the White House isn’t doing public tours then the rest of the country is not ready to open.
If your state’s capital building is not open to the public then the rest of your state is not ready to open.
If your governor is not out shaking hands and kissing babies then it’s too soon for the rest of us.
If your city’s court house and mayor’s office aren’t open for regular business then your city is not ready.
If the governing body and lawmakers aren’t ready to take those risks then what does that tell you?”
Guaranteed salary and pensions vs working for a paycheck. Government employees have no need to work if they are getting paid.
LOL! The “essentials“ have no incentive to “open up”.
They make the rules, don’t follow them, and keep paying themselves.
Tells me that they are having a great time staying home, bingewatching whatever, scarfing that Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream and collecting every penny of their fat salaries. Or maybe flying off to Florida, as in the case of Illinois’ First Lady. That’s why they’re in no hurry to get back to work.
Very good point! Still have their pay and just got a bonus.
Wow, fake news (“a small crowd of 50 protestors”) and liberal, medical industrial complex toadies to boot. This site is filled with shills for nanny state fascism. If you don’t appreciate liberty and freedom Clintonian liberals, move to North Korea and goosestep with your new supreme leader. I was there. It was a large, rowdy crowd of AMERICAN PATRIOTS, and many cars honked as they went past. Comparing patriots to Klansmen? That’s Antifa speaking. Report facts, not opinion, or cite it as such. Shame on Ms Kemp for being a propagandist and not a reporter/editor.
My reporter on the scene counted and estimated there were 50. More may have came after we posted but I stand by Mark’s estimate at the time.
Nathan,
thanks.
Might as well open everything up, since half of the most vulnerable folks, are now dead because they lived in Skilled Nursing Facilities, and now can no longer die…
The death rate is falling accordingly!

Where’s the Confederate Flags?
There weren’t any. But the first amendment isn’t needed to protect popular speech, is it.
Go fly your red banner, that I will defend ( begrudgingly).
Never said they didn’t have the right, just wondering where the Confederate Flags are.
What a Trump like conflation of hyperbole. In a world where Trump is President, you fit right in.
Maybe you know where the Confederate Flags are since you know everything.
Like my feeling about Trump, it’s not necessary to be perfect. Just better than the available alternatives.
Why do you feel the need to put labels on people and put them in a box? Please shelter in place as long as you want.
I feel the need just like the people here that rail against Liberals.
Funny, I’ve never seen you question their need for labeling people. Every day. In these threads.
More than half my comments on rhbb have been standing up to bigotry. I’m an independent and will rail against bigotry on the right and the left whenever I see it. Just a couple days ago I was railed at and falsely called a liberal for speaking out against the nazi roofer.
Hooray. It’s futile to try to out hate a hater into not being a hater. But a whole lot of people are set on trying.
The root causal factor of fear is ignorance.
This is where education and after school parenting resonates with those who font know or care about history.

Don’t believe the hype.
Why does the government send young men and women to the battle field.
Do the ends justify the means?
I would say that the lockdown in Humboldt is only creating more hardships for the people who still have mortgages, taxes, and other cost of living bills that are not being locked down.
This is economic warfare.
People see the attempt to silence dissent and it’s a good indicator that our educational system has moved away from critical thinking and the dialectic, to study the answers to pass the test.
How’s the numbers on common core?
In 1918 the second wave of influenza killed more than double the first wave did after everything opened again too soon..especially in SF and here in Humboldt county…those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it..
Did the second wave kill mostly those who managed to protect themselves by social isolation in the first wave which turned out to be milder than the second wave ? “In general, naval warships that had high mortality during the second wave were not affected by the first wave because of their relative isolation (eg, in the southern hemisphere),” the report says.
US military personnel in Hawaii offered another example, the researchers found. Many of the sailors and soldiers there had a mild flu-like illness in mid-1918. Later in the year, when the second pandemic wave hit, only one US sailor in Hawaii died of flu and pneumonia. A similar pattern was seen in a US Army camp in Puerto Rico.”
https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2011/09/study-suggests-1918-flu-waves-were-caused-distinct-viruses
So what is so hysterically defended by many as the only decent way to behave may yet turn out to be the exact wrong action. A little less certainty in an uncertain situation may be reasonable.
Look up civilian fatalities from the flu in 1918-19. Not military. The city people took off their masks and started crowding into stores and restaurants. Exactly what people will do here if controls are lifted too soon. The 2nd and 3rd wave killed tens of thousands..
Guest scours the internet until something, anything is found to back her/his view and posts links as if that makes him/her right all of the time. Every time.
I’m not responsible for your lack of understanding. You totally own your choice to see every comment as a personal challenge.
The reason for examining the military records is because they offer 1) records and 2) have naturally isolated and not isolated to evaluate.
It is always irritating to try to discuss the value if different ideas with people who only focus on one idea. The point is does self isolation, which can’t be maintained long enough to eliminate the disease, reduce the deaths over a long time better than non self isolation . Of course the virus causes deaths. It’s a pandemic. But does it lower the deaths a pandemic causes of the self isolation keeps immunity at bay too? Maybe allowing a milder disease to create wide spread immunity on the first wave will create less deaths overall than if, due to a lack of exposure, the next wave is a harsher disease where few have gained immunity.
So saying ‘people are dying’ doesn’t excuse a lack of thought about the next stage of a pandemic than the first one. There are a lot of unknowns. Could the next wave be actually less virulent so the death rate over time is less if people get sick on the second wave rather than the first. Will a vaccine come in time to prevent a second or third wave? Will self isolation cause such destruction that it creates a whole new level of social disruption and deaths not directly related to the disease itself.
These are “thought experiments” such as Einstein did. Freedom to have these thoughts leads to better planning than only seeing what is right in front of the nose.
The Spanish flu mainly killed people under 40. It is believed that the population over 40 had antibodies from an earlier virus, resulting in a milder to nonexistent symptoms from the Spanish flu. All these vaccines and sanitization could be setting us up for getting slammed by a bug in the future that could be much worse. Whether you believe in the theory of evolution or not, survival of the fittest is very real.
Wow idk why everyone is attacking Kym for just reporting the news! If you don’t like what she reports get your news elsewhere don’t come to the comments to be a nasty troll! I love your site keep it up! Everyone is entitled to their opinion but idk why everyone has to be so hateful all the time. We’re all in this together!
“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe.”-Albert Einstein
I see natural selection at work. Exercise your rights to ignore that pile of decomposing bodies over there. By all means, roll the dice, dunce. Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Of course but which lesson is the question. Is it the belief in the rightness of government officials or skepticism about government officials is the stupidity?
Good for the protestors! More people need to resist these questionable demands sucking the life out of the economy & the people work for their money. Who knows what health problems wearing this somewhat effective at best cloth masks mandate will create.
To the self proclaimed mask cheerleaders,YOU can wear that mask full time even after this fear based madness is over. It might protect you from the regular flu, colds etc. What a great deal!
The bottom line is ZERO DEATHS IN HUMBOLDT!!! And most of the time the “mask madness” wasn’t the rule of the day.
We have an obligation to protect our elders and those who work in health care but people are also losing everything and unable to put food on their table for their families. We need to work together to find a middle ground. We need to find away to support those in need without sacrificing public health and safety.
Universal basic income would be a good place to start. Those stimulus payments should be monthly not one time only. But for many people that have rent, kids to feed etc. $1200 and $500 a kid isn’t enough for everything.
Where do you picture the money coming from? It’s hard enough to support elders for a w0 year long retirement. Retirement at birth just might be impossible.
retirement at birth! that is funny, thanks for the laugh
This is why they call it the boomer remover.
So what have we learned from most of the posts. First, if you cause someone to die it isn’t your fault. Based on that if I go out and get drunk and hit your car and you die it’s not my fault. It’s my right to drink and to drive a car on the highway.
If a tree in my yard falls over in a wind storm and it hits your vehicle while you are driving into the your driveway and kills you. It’s not my fault. I have a right to grow trees on my property. I didn’t create the wind.
If I’m messing around with my hand weapon and it accidentally discharges and hits you and you die. That’s not my fault. The Second Amendment protects my right to owning a weapon. It’s not my fault you were in the way of the bullet.
My son goes to school and he has the measles, but I have the right to not vaccinate my son. He infects your daughter, who isn’t vaccinated, and she goes home and infects your other children, who are not vaccinated and they all die. That’s not his or my fault. My son has the right to an education.
If, while you are protesting, you infect me with a virus and I get sick and die. It’s not your fault. You have the right to protest.
Have I covered everything?
No. You also have a right to drive a vehicle that polutes the air and water (the largest proportion of microplastic particles in the oceans are rubber dust) and kills humans outright at an alarming rate. Oh well, foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, right?
Hyperbole?
This attitude is such bullshit.
If you feel threatened, stay at home. How do you feel so righteous that your fear should control everybody’s actions?
Ul roll over,
thanks,
well said.

In order for herd immunity to kick in about 70% of the population need to develop antibodies to Covid19. The shelter in place orders were not supposed to be about keeping people from ‘ever’ getting it; it was just about slowing down the speed of the overall infections. The medical system is not overwhelmed right now… if you are under 65 and healthy your concern should be on a myriad of other things which may lead to your untimely death; covid19 is not on that list.
Herd immunity is not the answer.
No medical experts agree at this time that we will develop an immunity if exposed. They say we don’t have enough information yet.
NO ONE develops an immunity to the “common cold” which is a type of corona virus, so the experts are counseling we need more time to understand what will happen.
OVER 65,500 deaths in the U.S. from covid19 in FOUR months and thousands more people are dying every day. Approximately 56,000 died from flu in TWELVE months last year. Only morons are comparing this to the flu.
And all those unwanted babies. ..
People develop immunity to the common cold all the time. But what’s termed the common cold is caused by a variety of viruses. So every time a new one comes along, you have develop immunity to that one too. Eventually, if you are routinely exposed and a healthy person, your body’s library of immunity builds up and it takes something really different to make you sick. https://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/06/science/can-immunity-to-the-common-cold-come-with-age.html
While immunity to covid-19 hasn’t yet been scientifically established, it would be the only corona virus I ever heard of that didn’t create such immunity normally. Covid-19 just hasn’t been around ling enough for the scientists to be sure how long the immunity lasts. But there is plenty of indications it lasts for at least a year.
If our biological beings can not develop immunity to covid19 (most people, by a large margin, recoverand are fine) then we are fucked as a species. This isn’t it.
Indeed. Better to plan for a future than to not think of a future at all.
Agree or disagree on what they are protesting, they have a right to do so.
Those that respond but didn’t post, trinbold, river lady, Elvis,
are paid troll or bots.
People have a right to peaceful assembly. That’s in the constitution. Nobody had a gun, and nobody spit in anybody’s gave that is a false accusation and that comment yet can be traced.
People have a right to post their opinion, not just the opinion trinbold, river lady, or Elvis like. It’s called freedom of speech and it’s in the constitution.
But the trolls mentioned here don’t care or know about the constitution or what it means all they want is the 10 bucks an hour they get for trolling. It’s obvious they don’t live here, or they couldn’t say that about humboldtians. So trolls listen up!
Humboldt is its own thing. It’s not LA. And freedom is for everyone.
Though trolls you should troll elsewhere because you are outmatched and you just draw more attention to the protesting as being a good idea.
Ah, no rupees tonight for the trolls.
Americans are free!
[edit]
Real people are on both sides of this issue. To assume that bots come to this website to provide an alternate viewpoint to yours, rather than realizing that there are people in the community that feel differently than you (75% of Californians according to this poll-https://www.chcf.org/blog/covid-19-tracking-poll-75-californians-support-shelter-place-as-long-as-needed/ ) is rather shortsighted.
Hi Kyme,
all I said was good job protesters. And the trolls turned out, the words they used are more than short sighted, they were completely uncalled for.
They are absolute troll s in my opinion the ones that trolled my comment are paid trolls or bots.
Thousands are protestin in Cali. today. Next month it will be millions.
They want to drink the kook aid, hide under their bed and suck their thumb, and they want to be a slave, they can.
The point is that everyone has the right to give their opinion and assemble peacefully, everybody.
But you have a right to your opinion and I appreciate your paper.
Peace to you.
Everyone i know is over and not in support of shelter in place.. Polls are not good sources of info..
And most people I know are not in support of opening everything up at once–we hang around with different people and as part of the human condition we tend to think that people everywhere think like those around us. Also, there’s confirmation bias. You are literally talking to me and others every day who disagree with you but according to you “everyone” you know is over it.
Polls can be wrong. The likelihood that a respected polling company is that wrong–75% is a very large number in a world where President Trump’s highest approval rating was 49%–isn’t likely.
But the numbers of people that are wanting to leave SIP are growing and will continue to in my opinion in areas like this that aren’t hard hit.
Yea i dont know you tho.
Seems like we chat more than most neighbors…. Anyway, you know how I feel…but you ignored my opinion and those of others that you’ve read about at least to say the poll is wildly inaccurate even though the polling company has a good reputation. And you offered no proof other than your personal experience. Yet you would be furious if the people in San Francisco discounted your opinion because they didn’t know you. There’s a lot of opinions in the world. Just because we don’t like an opinion doesn’t mean it isn’t a majority.
I, for instance, can not comprehend how so large a proportion of the US can approve of President Trump. But I don’t dismiss the polls showing that.
You read the poll question, correct? It was a very leading question more akin to: do you want more people to die or not?
It’s hard for me to understand how the Dems can run Joe Biden in his obviously diminished state of mind … unless of course they have Hillary or someone like her in the wings ready to take over before or after he would be elected. He’s the puppet but who is the master?
There are other options beside bureaucratic exercises in micro regulation. Don’t pick and choose which business is screwed and which is not. Instead decide what activities are too dangerous at the moment such as concerts, festivals and mass events. Then allow anything not in that danger zone to plan and survive . Offer testing to say food servers who could spread the virus unknowingly but check on their safe practices. Limit size of venues. I’d say food service but not bars as drunk people are notoriously foolish. But that’s my bias.
Open schools so parents can work but keep older teachers doing distance schooling while the students are in class. Creative solutions are possible.
Sensible yes but recognize the limits of imposing massive regulation. It’s not either/or. Not this Or that detail but common sense and adaptability from our officials that will work longer than a month.
Swine,
Zyep, thanks.
USA Today said 29% to 70% are in favor of the shut down, 2 weeks ago.
Each day less are in favor of the shut down, nobody I know is in favor of it, just bots or paid shills.
Swine,
Thanks.
Tell them move to Georgia with the rest of the other people who have no regard for others
You don’t own the State. Luckily for everyone. Nor does your lack regard for those who differ from you support the idea that you care for more than yourself.
Let’s give Georgia a 2-3 week head start and see how sick they get. Then we can have something to talk about.
Are you being lied to?

ST Nichole. Chloroquine is a potent inhibitor of SARS coronavirus infection and spread. Virology Journal. (2005) 2: 69
Chloroquine has strong antiviral effects on SARS CoV infection of primate cells in tissue culture. These inhibitory effects are observed when cells are treated with the drug either before or after exposure to the virus, suggesting both prophylactic preventative and treatment use. The paper describes three mechanisms by which the drug might work and suggest it may have both a prophylactic and therapeutic role in Coronavirus infections.

The Korean COVID-19 Central Clinical Task Force, held the sixth video conference and agreed on treatment principles for patients with COVID-19.
Young with mild symptoms without underlying conditions, doctors can observe them without antiviral treatment.
If 10 days have passed since the onset of the illness and the symptoms are mild, physicians do not have to start an antiviral medication.
If patients are old or have underlying conditions with serious symptoms, physicians should consider an antiviral treatment as soon as possible. lopinavir 400mg/ritonavir 100mg (Kaletra two tablets, twice a day) or chloroquine 500mg orally per day. Alternate is hydrocortisone 400mg orally per day.

Much more here by scientists and experts that the MSM won’t tell you about.
Why don’t they want you to know? Maybe they want you afraid and under house arrest? But Why?? Perhaps it’s cause Bill Gates and big Pharma can’t make a fortune on a old drug like Chloroquine?
It matters which scientists and experts you listen to. Do your own research people.

Something’s Fishy.
Tom,
agreed,
thanks.
All this shut down is based on gates event 201 model and what some scientists in China said.
Did you know gates has doubled his fortune since becoming a “philanthropist?” He has his “foundation” and a trust, the foundation donate money, and the trust makes money, profits, lots of profits.
Gates donates money to many ms news agencies, he also donates money to the cdc and the who.
The corona vac. he’s come up with is so bad, Africa won’t let him experiment on them over there.
Interesting
Hot coffee,
In my opinion,
I think the numbers are inflated, that there is much less not more being reported but the New York Times says its .06% in the u.s.
That said I like the drug your comment mentioned, that should be in supply, that and the supplies, though I’ve heard that the ventilators aren’t so good for this, but whatever they need they should have.
Heard the course you rec. is helpful,
that you took the time to post this is good of you,
and that Kyme has a paper that makes that possible is good of her.
It’s nice you want to help people. I want people to be well medically as well but also well as a community, getting back to work.
Maybe the awesome nurse kyme did the article about could be in charge of making sure there is enough of that drug you mentioned, she was on the front lines.
Still since according to the n.y. times the the fatality rate is less than the flu, freedom comes first.
And in my opinion even if it had a 50% fatality rate, which its not, freedom comes first. That is my opinion.
Peace.
The New York Times did not say that the fatality rate of COVID-19 is less than the flu. On April 30, an article stated that the numbers of people dying across the world are at historical heights. This, the article says “undermine[s] the notion that many people who have died from the virus may soon have died anyway. In Paris, more than twice the usual number of people have died each day, far more than the peak of a bad flu season. In New York City, the number has spiked to six times the normal amount.” https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/04/21/world/coronavirus-missing-deaths.html
https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus?country=USA
Depending on your age it is less fatal than the flu. Stratification by age group is so large that treating everbody as if they have the same risk is illogical.
I agree that not everyone has the same risk.
(That’s a cool site.) I have some questions about the chart.
Why only 4 countries?
Why are the deaths all from March and earlier?
But I agree that roughly 80% of deaths in the US as reported at this time (we’re underreporting those that die by a large amount and who those are isn’t clear yet) are among those 65 and older.
Ive read that authorities are claiming covid as a death if they die and test positive wether they died of itnor not
And presumptive cases. So even if you die in a car crash or heart attack or stroke but have covid they will mark it as a death by covid. Seems skewed if thats true. Hospitals and municipalities also get paid per covid death. Kinda like the prison system getting paid for inmatesm
Fatality rates by demographics is not an easy statistic to find. I don’t know why… it should be a primary driver for public policy, but b is not.

Coronavirus in the U.S.: Latest Map and Case Count – The New York Times
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.html
Their data is from the CDC and The Who.
And that has been corrected to 37 thousand deaths by the CDC.
only 37 thousand fatalities in the u.s.
but CNN, cbs, all the ms news organizations keep saying 60 thousand.
From today
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm
Please read the data.
And please stop deleting my posts.
The very first sentence in the New York Times article says, “More than 1,127,400 people in the United States have been infected with the coronavirus and at least 65,800 have died, according to a New York Times database.” Johns Hopkin says a few hundred less than that but all sites that I know of say over 65,000 deaths currently. The link you are pointing to on the CDC notes,”Death counts are delayed and may differ from other published sources.”
You comments are being deleted because on this website you may not personally insult another commenter ie in just one of the many comments you said, “you are a moron, you’re dumb as a box of rocks.”
The comments I’ve seen from trinboldtcino for instance are speaking generally about conservatives but not specifically about you or another commenter and if they are they will be edited or deleted.
Liberals see an opportunity to stop the reelection of Trump by exaggerating the death count and then blaming him for not taking it seriously. Liberals are morons.
Learn to play the game, G.
Did you really just say all liberals are morons? And are you saying all the scientists who work on this are liberals?
Kym, I’m looking at the cdc’s own official website in the link, covid fatalities as of May 1st is 37k, pneumonia 64k. I’m not participating in your conversation, just watching the numbers change, as well as official explanations. Do you see the same link says more than 37k?
A very important point is made about specific sources of information. WHY does the NYT say there are twice as many deaths, if their sources are official? Because (here’s the kicker) the official sources say half that.
Another very important point is, what sources are within who’s spheres of influence? Who do you personally hear repeating what sources? The NYT is considered to be an “official source” by most people. The publishing company that owns the NYT, owns several other “official news sources” that we all hear our own family, friends and associates repeat.
The connection should be made, that there’s a 100% difference of opinion between the real official source and the sources that we are led to believe rely on the official source.
…if that makes sense.
You are misreading the numbers. Here’s the chart from the CDC
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/cases-in-us.html?fbclid=IwAR2YGdSiJ1zk6mktakCLsCqjU-tEq9XsvLMK2fGG0vmHPIsAdMgl8C13cOU
The numbers sometimes vary between sites by a couple of hundred depending on when their upload times are but the most respected sites all stay within a couple hundred deaths of each other.
It was a second level sarcasm that I thought would provoke a response from you based on your bias where you excused trinboldtcino for the same insult just pointed in a more congenial direction. It is not reasonable to find that saying A is a conservative and Conservatives are morons is acceptable while saying A is a moron is not. That what what I pointed out to G in my comment. That is the game.
Besides you as a liberal are not automatically aligned with all scientists. Epidemiologist are in general not support of massive government enforced isolation as a good policy. Yes, it reduces immediate deaths and most doctors, liberals and politicians are aimed at that because of the nature of their interests. But that is far from the all you think it is. Social isolating is not everything. It is part of a problem.
“I think the model’s broad conclusion is correct that there is a terrible dilemma of very long-term social distancing, or overloading healthcare systems, or both,” said Marc Lipsitch, DPhil, a professor of epidemiology and the director of the Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics at Harvard University. “With the options currently available I do not see a way to get out of this dilemma.”

Aha, I didn’t think it sounded like you. Now that I know you were yodaing me, I see that it is you.

Right on there it says, “Data as of 4/16/2020” That’s over two weeks ago. You can’t claim that information from two weeks ago is accurate now.
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm
5/1/2020
37k covid19 deaths.
The cdc says there is a reporting lag of on average, 7 days and up to 2 weeks.
That means that the cdc you posted isn’t from cdc official reporting, rather from other sources.
“Provisional death counts may not match counts from other sources, such as media reports or numbers from county health departments. Our counts often track 1–2 weeks behind other data for a number of reasons: Death certificates take time to be completed. There are many steps involved in completing and submitting a death certificate. Waiting for test results can create additional delays. States report at different rates. Currently, 63% of all U.S. deaths are reported within 10 days of the date of death, but there is significant variation among jurisdictions. It takes extra time to code COVID-19 deaths. While 80% of deaths are electronically processed and coded by NCHS within minutes, most deaths from COVID-19 must be coded manually, which takes an average of 7 days. Other reporting systems use different definitions or methods for counting deaths.”
Kym, from your link:
“As of April 14, 2020, CDC case counts and death counts include both confirmed and probable cases and deaths.”
I think that the numbers from my link are confirmed and from yours confirmed + probable… hence the discrepancy of 27k deaths.

Versus
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm
To me, that table you are using is comparing deaths from a variety of causes. While COVID-19 is being tracked intensely by the CDC and a number of other institutions (Johns Hopkins and the New York Times among others), the other data is coming in slower and maybe a bit behind?
Anyway so the number on the table is comparing deaths at the same time–deaths counted up til April 25.
Kym,
Have you considered that Sid is working at least 3 names on this thread.
He’s happy to just be wasting your time.
If so, he is not acting like Sid did previously. So, just because a commenter holds ideas different than mine, doesn’t mean I can assume he’s Sid.
I don’t assume that just because someone disagrees it’s Sid.
That really doesn’t need to be said.
I doubt you are bored, but if you were, you could find all the comments that address you as “Kyme” over the last months.
Look at each of those comments and tell me you don’t see it.
Papa Wheelies, Suzanne, G, Nice, Tom, and Freedom not Fear are all suspect in my book, for this thread.
Sid spelled my name correctly and spoke differently. [email protected] https://kymkemp.com/2019/08/08/hispanic-drug-traffic-organization-grow-raided-k-9s-used-to-capture-suspects-says-trinity-county-sheriffs-office/#comment-854595
Some commenters use more than one name. They still aren’t Sid
This isn’t New York City.
Have a nice day.
No, this is not New York City. Thank God we do not have so many bodies we can’t burn them fast enough. And it is probably time to try opening a few more businesses and seeing what happens.
BUT, do you really think that with 50 positive cases in Humboldt in early April, if Public Health hadn’t tracked down and isolated the contacts of those people and that if we all hadn’t been staying at home and cutting the number of people we interacted with (our family contacts alone have dropped 1000’s) that there wouldn’t have been widespread COVID-19 infections and some deaths?
No more or less than normal. That’s what all the hubbub about all the hubbub is about. It’s too perfect. It’s Orwellian ad maximum.
And for the kool aid drinkers DON’T EAT THE FISH TANK CLEANER!
Hot cider,
you’re drinking the kool aid,
you like doing what you’re told,
that’s being a slave,
so enjoy your slavery.
Freedom over fear
Silly remark.
You have no Idea what I’m doing,or what I like, but for your info. I’m looking at research and sharing it. If you don’t like additional info. perhaps you’re the slave?
Recommending people do their own research is hardly slavery.
It means I believe most people are intelligent and given enough information they will make the decisions they believe is best for themselves their loved ones, and their communities.

Sorry about the double post I ran into a glitch while posting.
Lets hypothesis for a minute that all those that are waiting for a vaccine will get one and therefore be immune. Trials have already started.
All those that can’t get a vaccine but would if they could were sheltered in place and …
the nurses being laid off in other medical fields and not working at the moment were to deliver food and groceries, checking the health, of those not able to tolerant vaccines and they were excellently cared for by those nurses and community assistants who would be paid for their work.
Children that can’t go to school with the unvacinated could be brought into the school by skype or other telecommunications.
So the vaccine crowd has their vaccine, those that can’t are cared for and that leaves both safe.
The rest of the folks that don’t want a vaccine should also be able to go about their lives without endangering anyone, and the Country could stay open and everyone go about their lives in a normal manner.
It needs a little work but it’s a potential solution where everyone gets what they want.
Anyone else have any Ideas?
“Give me liberty or give me Covid”
Santa Barbara?
One of the ironies here is to get people back to work, everyone will have to be checked to see they are healthy. That is Bernies national health care plan.
In my opinion vaccines are not the answer.

Not a good look for Sequoia Gas.
