Press release from Redwood Acres Raceway:

Logo for Redwood Acres RacewayDue to the COVID-19 coronavirus and its affect throughout not only Northern California but the entire world, Redwood Acres Raceway officials have announced the cancellation of practice that was originally scheduled to on April 16. In addition, the season opening race scheduled on May 2 has also been cancelled. This will make the race scheduled for May 16 the first of the year.

Because of the nature of the coronavirus and the fluid situation that is occurring daily because of it, more cancelations may be made for future races. RAR officials have every intention of running as much of the 2020 season as possible and race dates that may be canceled could potentially be rescheduled later in the year. However, it must be stressed that while rescheduling dates is an option it is also something that might not be able to be done. One silver lining is that the new scoreboard will be ready and in operation when the 2020 season does start. It would not have been in working order for the original opening event on May 2.

The coronavirus has not only and an affect on the racing at the 3/8-mile paved oval but the fairgrounds as well. The Redwood Acres Fair Board announced the cancellation of the Redwood Acres Fair which was scheduled for late June. Other activities at the fairgounds including roller derby and the Humboldt Outlaw Karts have also had to cancel scheduled events. In hopes of bringing joy to fans during this stressful period, RAR has been hosting viewings on its Facebook page of classic events that have been held at the track. Super stock action from the first night of racing on the pavement from April 30, 1988 was broadcast two weeks ago.

This past Saturday evening, the first ever NASCAR Southwest Tour race was shown. Scheduled for this Saturday April 11 at 6:00 PM is a viewing of dirt action from RAR from July of 1983. More videos are planned in the coming weeks to help everyone get through this period. You can stay updated with everything that’s going on by visiting Redwood Acres Raceway on Facebook, on Twitter @RacinTheAcres or by going to the track’s official website www.RacinTheAcres.com.

Thank God. At least everything bad has a silver lining. Less rednecks and car races equals very good

Yes, people having good, old fashioned, family fun are disgusting. That their good time is ruined is certainly something for which you should heap praise on your god.
