URGENT NEED! Southern Trinity First Responders–Zenia, Hettenshaw Valley, Ruth Lake, and Mad River–
He said,
URGENT!!! Southern Trinity California Volunteer Fire Dept. which is Hettenshaw Valley, Ruth Lake, and Mad Rivers first responders have zero N-95 masks, zero sterile gloves or face shields. If you have any of those things I will be going to southern Trinity County on Tuesday morning this is very urgent!!
They’ve exhausted all other options with the county etc. so we figured we put this out there and see if the public can help..You can call me @ [530] 739-0983.
He told us that Zenia Volunteer Fire Department has zero masks, sterile gloves, or face shields also.
Please, if you can help, please do. These folks will be risking their lives to save others.
Also try contacting the North Coast Mask Brigade. They can arrange for drivers to pick up donations. And if you don’t have donations but want to help you can offer to drive. The Brigade would be a good place coordinate through so.

Maybe check the local high school chemistry, metal or wood shop, they might have some stored. N95 masks are used for a variety of purposes before the pandemic. Think of where there might be some.
Check the local equipment rental stores, and grow stores in Humboldt. Nitrile Gloves were plentiful last I checked. Hard to believe our first responders aren’t supplied or equipped with any. Masks are a diff story, but OES should be responsible to supply all in need.
I was going to say the same the grow stores are packed with gloves.
Hit up the big construction companies around Redding for masks and the dental offices as well for gloves. It csnt hurt to contact Costco and see if theyll donate gloves, in my experience the msnagers of each store have authority to donate. My mom says Target often donates items to fire fighters.
I cannot believe how very absurd our country has become, no gear for our valued and much needed responders is so wrong. My guess is the ultra wealthy are hoarding supplies.
or people like this guy; https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/medical-supplies-seized-alleged-price-gouger-distributed-hospitals/story?id=69938363
Lots of medical supplies sold on ebay by price gougers.
These are all part of a normal First Responders’ Med kit on a normal day. Car wreck, don the gloves. General Illness don the face mask. I behave as though all patients have Hep, or HIV.
I witnessed some reluctance to acknowledge the potential seriousness of the pandemic within our own Fire Dept. only a month ago. Is it possible Leaders were too busy savoring the Faux News Koolaid to make arrangements to protect their own?
Dang, nothing but criticism of anything any leader all the time. Who was willing to believe anything bad could touch them? Oh yes- the preppers and self sufficient who were the universal butt of media and the public for last twenty years.
I bought a box of latex 100 latex gloves at Walmart for 8.00, my friend bought a box at a hardware store for 10.00, I was looking at them on Amazon last night. They have surgical masks and reusable N95 masks with changeable filters for 10.00 with 25 filters and 5 masks. This is unacceptable! Why isn’t the county or the fire department buying them if they can’t get them by other means? Dies the county want them to stop responding and go home and shelter? Take care of your people and I’m talking about the State as well.
Where are you?
Most of the gloves that we purchase in regular stores are non sterile. It says so clearly on the box. Usually sterile gloves are used in medical and dental situations.
So soak them in alcohol then let them air out. WTF.
Oops, thought he said masks.
So use the non sterile boxed gloves if you don’t have anything else.
I’m in public safety and considered a first responder……..I order our medical and facilities supplies. I would really like to know where you have seen these prices or availability!
I too was just on amazon under our dept account for first responders/law and it is seriously impossible to get the above items you stated.
If it’s for protection of first responders, not the patient, who really cares whether they are sterile gloves or not. If sterile is not an option any barrier is better for both patient and responder. My first aid training taught me to do the best I can within the limitations in front of me. Use of common sense is so often lacking.
Is there a drop off location? For me right now getting out requires hiking, chainsaws, 4×4, snow and so I am not going out much but can drop something off if I do. Do you want slightly used masks? I have one in quarantine that was used for a quick run through Costco.
No don’t share mask(s) think about it. Kinda defeats the purpose unless you disinfect it. Masks are for preventing you from spreading it to others any how. I’m wondering if a well intentioned person took this too far; trying to help but not checking what they actually had. For one, any rubber gloves that hold up long enough to provide a barrier to the FIRST RESPONDERS is good. We are not doing surgery, we are packaging the patients for transport. There will be a whole lot of infection control long after they make it to a hospital. They don’t have to say “Sterile”. Some surgical or “sterile” gloves are weak, and don’t stand up out in the field, on the side of the road or whatever. Otherwise there is never a time where Fire Service Organizations don’t need a stash of gloves. That being said, it can be tough in an all volunteer organization.. “I thought you ordered them”, “No you said you’d order them 2 months ago!” then covid hits and it’s gets more complicated.
Thank you everyone and yes we contacted trinity co OES and referred us to TCLS and they said they can help a little but haven’t received please stay home people
Be healthy xoxo STVFD
All I have to say is look at the eBay account of shastasafety lol… There’s your masks.
Edit:
There’s where pretty much every n95 locally from every single store from root101,sylvandale, dasey, every napa, home depot, hell even WTC was bought out by a shastasafety runner, then all the n95 masks from a nice 100 square miles ended up on ebay. Not sure how the public can see a list of completed auctions but they are definitely there, sold, gouged to the moon. I know the runners from Humboldt they contracted. Paid outrageously.
A good investigative journalist hint hint could without doubt expose it for what it really is.
Nothing is returned when searching for ebay user shastasafety. Got a link to their store? Many sellers have been booted off ebay because of this very thing. Shasta Safety’s web site shows them completely sold out of n95 masks.
Here are (4) 3m n95 masks that were posted on auction, no reserve. Over 40 bids and the price is $227 or so with 19 hours till close. If ebay would let you, you could sell single masks for $200 buy it now all day long if you promised quick shipping. I think they are allowing no reserve auctions to slide.

This makes no sense at all. Do they only keep a months supply on hand at a time?
Should have said:
a month’s supply
Looks like Trinity oes has their head up their ass
What if you call 911 and no Volunteers respond because they don’t have PPEs
Viruses are smaller than .3 microns
… Hepa filters dont filter viruses out.. Fyi
Was on vfds for years. Got my EMT. Was never issued or even saw one n95 mask.
Somebody needs to seriously rethink where the measure z money goes. Most of that dough is on furlough.
I’d bet not one dime went to n95’s .
Oh well, I guess hindsight is 20/20.
Humboldt County first responders did benefit from Measure Z. And all areas of Humboldt received supplies from OES. Diana Totten says that all SoHum first responders at least have enough supplies including N-95 masks for the expected number of calls through the next few weeks.
These are Trinity County first responders that don’t have Measure Z money.
My Sohum fire department was issued surgical masks and goggles, not n95 and face shields. Still better than nothing.
Diana Totten assured me just now. “all so hum depts were issued n95s…all depts were issued surgical masks that go on the patient.”
My point is that I don’t think one dime of measure z money was allocated to n95’s in preparation prior to this situation.
I did not say Humboldt Vfds did not benefit.
And yes I know Trinity does not benefit from Measure Z.
My point is also that currently where the Lions share of Measure Z has gone to isn’t helping right now.
If you are aware of what I am overlooking, please tell me how measure Z is helping in this situation.
Not OES.
Actually I just read where Southern Trinity Volunteer Fire was recommended for $17,000 through HFCA for their workman’s comp.
And Southern Trinity Area Rescue recommended for $136,000.+
They both probably cover some of Humboldt.
Lost Coast Outpost from March 13 2020 article on measure Z by Freddy Brewster. Facing tough decisions…
Law enforcement has gotten more than all others combined over the last 4 years. 56.9%.
Good article.
I don’t know how to link…
Masks can be home made from a heppa filter vacuum cleaner bag. Cotton is not appropriate. 4 per vacuum cleaner bag.
