Trailing Black Bears in Spring: A Kim Cabrera Tracking Film
Kim Cabrera, our local tracker, is following bears in her efforts to keep social distance. She offers some tips on what to look for if you think this might be a fun alternative to another day watching Netflix.
She wrote,
Black bears are quite active right now. They have been visiting the field to feed on the new spring grass. In this video, I show some of the many signs that indicate bear presence here. You get to see what clues show a tracker about the activities of the bears in the field. Included is a clip showing the bear making some of the sign we talk about. Tracking wildlife is the best way to get a glimpse into their secret lives.

Spring grass after a bit of sun is very loaded with high sugar carbohydrates. If it’s been in the shade or is long, older grass, it’d much less tasty and digestible.
When I was a youngster I would’ve climbed up a tree near that ole Dead fall, and when a bear gets it’s third rib over left of center , I would do what I called the bear bear triple twisted, which entails me diving head first from tree from at least 15 feet for max vulacity , get em in a bear bug will pinning him to tree and wahmoo, bear grease for flap jacks
I subscribed to Kim’s channel some time ago and really enjoy all of them. She’s a wonderful educator of nature’s critters.
Way cool. Ty
