Sounds like Trinity Health Officer has a head on his shoulders. Maybe he should pass this on to Humbold as they allowed HSU to charter a bus from San Francisco and LA with basically no restrictions on those they dumped on the community.

The worst part is, Humboldt County has yet to require quarantine for returning residents (and these students are HC residents). We’re about to find out, from the four active cases and their compatriots who returned from overseas, how consequential a blunder that was. Hopefully there has been some strong urging of the students with regard to the guidelines.

I really hope this gets enforced!
I dont think folks in any if our counties are getting that all these people from the Bay headed up here thinking theyd be safer. And probably carrying the virus with them. You really think anyone who can afford to do that is going to listen to a self quarantine order?
I saw some ads on vrbo and airbnb in Humboldt that said if youre coming from out of the area you will.have to self quarantine for 14 days. How will the owner enforce that? Will the owner then be held liable if the renters are found to bring the virus here?
How about not renting to people from the bay???

wish lake county would start that same order . motels have been closed and all our parks and recreation . however our vast quantity of vacation ( second homes ) are filling up like it was summertime cause they all supposed to be at home in their own shelter .
back and forth they travel , in and out of lake county .
we dont have the corona virus YET in this county , but i bet we get it soon from one of the hundreds or thousands that visit us

Wish Siskiyou would do the same…but the health officer here leaves a lot to be desired in the wisdom department.

Good on Trinity.

I’m going to give an example of why this is mostly a statement, without enforcement.

I’m walking my dogs today, a neighbor who lives in [another hotspot State], arrived last night. He’s nice.

He put his hand out to shake a hello. I stayed 6 back and said, “nah, not now”.

He went to town today. Probably will again. Leaves this weekend back to [other state].

Then he’ll be back again…

Repeat.

Unless Sheriff deputies are checking DL at the 3 and 299 entrances, this is futile.

Unconstitutional!

California Courts have found that a Health Officer’s extra ordinary powers of quarantine and isolation only apply to persons for whom probable cause exists to believe has or has been exposed to communicable disease!

The court declared, “It would seem unnecessary to state that the delegation of such complete authority over one of the most fundamental of our constitutional rights–the right of personal liberty–must of necessity carry with it the obligation to exercise such unusual powers only when…,”reasonable ground exists to support the belief” that the person so held is infected.”

I was gassing up at Dinsmore when a growdozer full of foreigners obviously just getting here for the season by their clothes pulled up from the coast side and stated filling their gas containers, like 20 of them. Again, looked strait off the plane. I took off and crossed back into TrinCo and these guys came screaming up behind me on 36 doing 70mph and nearly chased me off the road as they passed me, double yellow line on a blind corner. Just a hunch, they aren’t the quarantining type…

Still in track suits I’m guessing. Imagine if Carhartt made track suit work wear, lol.

This is exactly the kind of mischief that Thomas Jefferson warned against when he cautioned, “In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.”

Why isn’t Humboldt doing this? We here along the 101 freeway have much more cause for alarm as the COVID-19 cases start to pick up in frequency. It’s time for the whole nation to honker down and seal off counties at least until we see the virus numbers dropping. Business people are mainly to blame for the spread because they’re not willing to take the losses everyone is now living with. Only vital stores should be open and rents should all be waved for at least one month. None of this will happen because capitalism matters far more than life, even in Humboldt. 🙁
