Slowing Down: Intense Rainbow Stops Drivers on 299 This Evening

Rainbow on 299

Rainbow on 299 [Photo by Mark Nelson]

Drivers seeing a richly colored rainbow on Hwy 299 this evening pulled over to capture the beauty on their cameras.

Who else wonders what we’ll see through these next few weeks? Anyone documenting your stay at home activities for posterity?

(This reporter wanted to photograph her family washing/disinfecting freshly bought groceries but was shouted down by her cranky kids…If your cranky offspring don’t veto the process, please share a photo or two that you’ve taken since the Shelter-in-Place order caused you to slow down a bit.)

I can’t take a photo of myself washing my fruit, but I did post a photo on my FB page of my newly washed fruit. Does that count? What a beautiful rainbow!

The Varied Thrushes have come and are staking out their territories with their bell calls. A Pileated Woodpecker has shown up for the first time in four years. Heart lifting for sure.

I saw one in Sequoia Park on Tuesday, drilling away like crazy, but sadly he was nowhere to be found yesterday 🙁

Did you know they love huckleberries? Being a woodpecker I assumed they only ate bugs but witnessed one mowing hucks with relish! ( Pun intended )

I see (and hear) them quite often. They peck away at the apples in the trees, and have little fear.

Wow! Amazing! Thanks for posting Kym. During the big storms in 1995 (?) I was behind Sicilito’s in Garberville and two rainbow arches intersected right there at the four-way stop. It was so cool.
