[UPDATE: Faith’s Home!] Humboldt County Teen Still Missing 10 Days After She Disappeared in the Middle of the Night

UPDATE: Faith is now home. See below for more info.

Faith Carrick

Faith Carrick

Faith Carrick, a 17-year-old Eureka High student, went missing from her Cutten, California home 10-days ago. On Sunday, March 15, Faith’s sister found the missing girl had “put pillows on her bed to make it look like someone was there” and left a note.

HCSO’s Public Information Officer Samantha Karges said, “A detective has been assigned to the case and is conducting a thorough investigation. The detective met with the family as part of a standard Criminal Investigations Division investigation, with the intent to gather any and all intel or evidence we can for the investigation.”

Marie Carrick told us that a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office detective came to her Cutten home and “sat with us for 3 ½ hours…[to] gather information and try to get a picture of who Faith is.”

She said she gave the detective Faith’s Chromebook and cellphone. Kargas provided insight into HCSO’s process of analyzing the devices for viable information. She explained, “The process for conducting a forensic search of electronic/digital items can involve many different techniques. There are many factors, both legally, physically, and logically, that play into what type of searching can be completed and how it is completed.” Detectives, she said, are investigating Faith’s whereabouts and hope to “find any information that leads to the location of the Runaway Juvenile, Faith Carrick. Furthermore, if a crime has been committed, Detectives hope to find evidence of that.”

Note from Faith Carrick

Note left for her parents by Faith Carrick.

Faith’s parents sought the input from her teachers and counselors asking if they noticed any behavioral shifts. Her mother Marie said neither her teachers nor her academic counselor saw this coming. Faith’s parents searched her Eureka High locker and said they found “nothing but some papers and a couple of textbooks.”

This selfie was taken the Saturday, March 14, a day before Faith went missing wearing the purple hoodie her family suspects she was wearing when she ran away..

Marie told us, “We cleaned out her backpack…looking for clues. Looked through everything in her room, desk, and closet.” Unfortunately, this search provided Faith’s parents with no information regarding her whereabouts.

After accounting for the items left in Faith’s bedroom, Marie concluded that her daughter “took her purse, her iPod, and her wallet with $35.00 in it.” Also missing was a pair of Eureka High Loggers sweatpants, dark sweatpants, and a bright purple hoodie with Dutch Bros across the front and a colorful unicorn across the front.

Faith’s mother Marie said, “The letter Faith left the morning has always bothered me.” She told us that the note “is definitely Faith’s writing but not her style. When you look at essays and poetry, it is not her style. The note is curt and short. She is usually graded down on run-on sentences and being too long in her writing.”

A postscript to the note Faith left the morning she ran away reads: “P.S. Rose will protect me”. When Faith’s mother Marie was asked about “Rose”, she had no knowledge of who that could be.

HCSO’s Samantha Karges clarified the department’s perspective on Faith’s disappearance, “As of this point, our detectives have not found any indication of any criminal activity, though that status could change if detectives receive information indicating otherwise.” Kargas further stated that “there is no indication that Faith Carrick was abducted. In fact, at this point in the investigation, all things suggest Faith Carrick ran away from home willfully 10 days ago and does not want to be located.”

Faith’s parents, Marie and Clyde Carrick, thanked the community for its help in trying to find their daughter: “We thank everyone in our community, friends, and people we do not even know for their efforts to find our daughter.” In a direct message to Faith, her parents assured her, “You can always come home. Whatever is going on, we will figure it out. We love you”.

Faith Carrick

Faith Carrick is 5’5’’, weighs 175 pounds, has brown hair, hazel eyes, and wears glasses. Faith could be wearing sweatpants and a purple hoodie with “Dutch Bros” and a unicorn insignia.

Anyone who knows of Faith’s whereabouts is encouraged to come forward. Contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 if you have any information.

I am sorry to say that I don’t have a good feeling about Faith being missing for ten days. If any of Faith’s friends know where she is please call her parents or the police.

Check Looking Glass New Roads youth services in Eugene. There is no run away laws in Oregon and lots of services here in Eugene some kids came in from eureka and Arcata around the 17th she could have been with them. We just went shelter in place yesterday but New Roads is still offering limited essential services. I will keep an eye out when we hand out emergency supplies this weekend.

I think this “Rose” thing needs to be looked into. She may be a person, or a concept, or a symbol. “Rose”, whatever or whoever it is, must have been very important to her to have been mentioned in the note.

ROSE is also an acronym for “Regaining Ones Self Esteem”. I wonder if she could have been using Rose as an acronym? Is it a acronym, cryptic or a real person, also, a unicorn represents different things as well especially a rainbow unicorn, could she be with a couple somewhere? Who knows?

Going to teachers and counselors was good, but it’s her friends that would know the most. If this note does not sound like her could she have been coerced to write it? Perhaps she is not a runaway. She looks too smart to think that 35 dollars would be enough to support her. Why is there no Amber alert? Time is of the essence. I saw a young woman hitching the other day and pulled over to see if it was Faith, but it wasn’t. Please everyone keep your eyes open.
