Second Case of COVID-19 Confirmed in Humboldt County Today

novel coronavirus Covid-19 HumboldtPress release from the Department of Health & Human Services:

Local Health Officials confirmed a second positive test of a Humboldt County resident with novel coronavirus (COVID-19) one month to the day after the county had its first confirmed positive case.

Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich said the individual had recently traveled to a high-risk country. Community transmission is not believed to be a factor in this case. Anyone who was in close contact with the individual will be contacted by Public Health staff, evaluated and quarantined as appropriate.

“Our thoughts go out to this individual and we wish them a full recovery,” Frankovich said. “We have said repeatedly that we expect additional cases in our community. We’ve been fortunate to have had time to prepare, and we have prepared. I certainly do not think this will be the last case in Humboldt County.”

Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal said the results underscore the importance of the shelter in place order declared last night. “It is absolutely critical that Humboldt County takes the Health Officer’s order to shelter in place seriously,” he said. “This inconvenience to our daily lives is the necessary step to protect our friends, loved ones and fellow community members.”

Humboldt County had its first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Feb. 20. The individual recovered and was released from isolation on Feb. 28, after meeting all conditions for clearance required by the CDC.

The cat is out of the bag. The location of this second case is being circulated on social media. I urge everyone to start dredging for this critical piece of info.
It’s time for people to stand up for their rights and demand accurate information or resignation from Frankovich, before she kills someone (If she hasn’t already) through her lies by omission.
I am not a sheep to be herded over the cliff by an incompetant shepherd. Apparently, unless Frankovich is being told to keep her mouth shut by someone, that is exactly what she is. She is obviously either amoral or a coward.
This business of “Not wanting people to panic” is absurd. Look around for shit sake. People are hunkered down in their homes for an undetermined length of time. Stores are closed, businesses are going belly up, people are loosing everything they worked all their lives for,
and people you thought were tolerable will now shank you for a loaf of bread in the grocery store. That’s not panic?
What panics me is when public officials start lying and playing with our rights. Is this China, or what? Is this woman just a shill for the party line or a real Health Officer?
Granted, Frankovitches’ job is to try to keep the stupid ones in line, and everyone knows there are way more stupid people than smart ones. That’s why you need to have one information channel for the stupid ones, and another for the smart ones, or just have one channel for everyone and tell the truth.
Frankovich should just tell the truth and let the people face this head on. The smart will always help the stupid, and Frankovich should either start giving us the information she is sworn by duty to supply us, or get outta Dodge.
Barricade the bridges and leave the south lane open.

Frankovich is bound by federal law to protect the identity of this new COVID-19 patient. It’s called HIPPA, the Health Information Privacy & Protection Act. She CAN’T release this person’s name or location, BY LAW!
If everyone would just follow the shelter in place order, and practice social distancing and hand sanitation guidelines, the spread of this virus can be contained.
Stoking fear and speculating on social media serves no one. There’s already enough fear out there from seeing the true extent of incompetence in this illegitimate administration and the dreaded realization that we are truly on our own.
We should be more concerned that we have a sociopath in the White House whose mission to dismantle everything done under Obama has reached the extent that we no longer have a functional system to respond to this pandemic. Gross incompetence and lifelong grifting have created this situation because every delay has been caused by refusing to take steps that won’t profit his family crime syndicate, the sycophants in his administration, or his cronies at Mar a Lago.
What part of you’re on your own have you failed to understand???

What do any freedoms have to do with our current situation?

Officials are bound by directives, very few of their own making.

This has been a travesty since day one, and lies and deception rule this playing field.

You either are playing or getting played.

Dear Alice,
I never said we should know who has the disease and their address. We need to know a general area, such as northern, southern, or middle, or a town. Just common sense. Why are we shown maps every day that show all the areas in the US that have active cases? Maybe so we can avoid them? Let’s say the second case was in Fortuna, wouldn’t you want to know? Wouldn’t you want your family to know? If not, please tell us why. Your coveted, dirty little secret is going to kill someone, or many, not all of them will be Trump lovers either.
Just a reminder that this is Kalifornia, and not DC. Kalifornia is the state that bites off it’s nose to spite it’s face and never takes responsibility for
the dismal mistakes it’s government makes.

Because we had a positive case already and we know its super contagious.
We know statistically that there are many people here who have it, we don’t have enough tests for everyone. Asymptomatic folks are spreading it more than symptomatic, and right now the limited tests are for those with symptoms.

Assume it’s everywhere. Because it probably is. We still have people coming here to Humboldt county from NY, Georgia, Fl, Wisconsin, Oregon, Washington, Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela, etc etc etc. They don’t have enough tests to test everyone who has symptoms.

Pretend you live in a sterile lab. Wear gloves when you go out to shop or do laundry. Sterilize your hands and laundromat washing machine surfaces that touch your clothes. Don’t sit on public benches. Spray the bottoms of your shoes- according to some in Italy the virus can live for 8 hours on asphalt. 24 hours on cardboard- & by extension- probably 24 hours on paper and close to that on dry cotton clothing. 3 to 5 days on plastic and steel – packaging, rayon clothing etc. 4 hours on copper. I forget what aluminum is, but it’s less than steel.

Some of us are washing or spraying items packaged in plastic before putting them away. I leave dry items packed in paper for 24 hours in a corner of my house before handling them.

If you are at risk and would feel better with a mask in public but can’t find one- a bandana offers some protection- not perfect but much better than nothing. Probably perfectly fine unless you are a health worker.

No need to freak out, make a game of it if it makes you feel better. Freaking out is a waste of energy. Energy is better spent figuring out ways to stay clean. If you have that figured out it will give you a better sense of control over your life. Better to be too cautious than less cautious- you’ll sleep better.

“the individual had recently traveled to a high-risk country.”

Why were they allowed into the County???

The shelter in place orders are not effective to prevent this pandemic. Humboldt needs to cast a wary eye at any travelers entering the County right now. Travelers should be required to explain their reason for entering and required to quarantine, or just turned away outright, if warranted.

Eric Kirk

Reason for entering? Probably because the person lives here.

Regardless, the individual should have been quarantined if they returned from a high risk area. How many people did they infect? No way to know!

Again, what are authorities doing to monitor and control travelers entering the County right now? Nothing. This will prove to be fatal for many residents.

Unless you know people who are currently serving and have been informed about what they are “preparing” for.

Most people don’t know anything until it shows up in the news feed, or have a perspective on the historical record.

Let’s go with the Japanese Internment after the 1940s Census.

Some people recognize precedent when they see it, others simply are waiting for instructions.

HO – one of my coworkers reported that an entire Carribean cruise was emptied out along with her cousin who reported that he wasn’t even asked how he was feeling when he got off the boat, let alone be tested or at least have his temperature taken. He was even grilling the staff as he got off. It kind of freaked him out.

We’re just not taking it seriously enough. Or weren’t.

Uh if you havent noticed our federal govt completely dropped the ball. You cant blame an individual, theremodt likely was no test for them. Or they werent showing symptoms so they passed the med screening.
I hope youre not under the impression that people coming in from high risk areas but are asymptomatic are getting tested.

How do you know they weren’t self quarantined and developed symptoms? Or if theyre even super sick.

Did you all read the posts of people with symptoms who tried to get tested here and were turned down time after time??? Rumor has it there was a mini riot at the mad river hospital ER with so many people showing up to get tested only to find there were only a few tests.

Our fed govt didn’t buy the tests the rest of the worlds using, the ones our govt got were faulty and the next incomplete meaning didnt have all the necessary parts.
That lag time&its allowance of the virus to spread as well not testing all hospital patients with pneumonia symptoms in the country, as many worldwide health experts suggested to the US. This was when Trump was tweeting that virus was democratic hoax.
A congressman had to travel to Haiti last week and posted that every single person getting off the plane was tested. In Haiti.

Lets remember we’re all in this together and the lack of testing is the real issue not the individual who tests positive.
If you need to vent do it appropriately, call the white house.

🇺🇸The virus has an 15 day incubation period. Plus the person could be a person in someone else’s chain. Meaning that for every one that they find they have to except they’ve already infected at least 10 other people by incidental contact. So they don’t have to be the one that left the country. The shelter in place was about a mouth to late.🕯🌳CDC and WHO both agree that you can pass the infection on within three days of catching it yourself even before you show symptoms. 🖖

Part of me thinks that anyone who can be proven to infect another through knowingly engaging in risky behavior (like traveling to Italy on vacation recently), should be held liable for all the medical expenses of everyone who gets sick because of their choices. Maybe that would make some folks think twice about their choices.

How about what flight they were on!!?? So everyone that was on the plane into acv with them get no notice? The cloak and dagger mentality on all of this is putting lives at jeopardy. Why is it so hard to get tested? If I was on the flight that this person was on or the flight out of acv after they landed it sure would be nice to know. Specific dates and times and flight numbers would not put their identity at Jeopardy, it would just protect and inform those who were in proximity. What if I sat next to them on the plane into acv and then my job is considered essential like a checker at grocery store… then I’m talking to 1000s of people during my incubation period. This is a sad situation.

It’s hard to get tested because of a shortage of test kits, swabs, and reagents.

Because Humboldt has done zero to no early testing, and we still dont have the quantity of kits to do it effectively, just assume the number of infected is 20 to a 100x’s more than than reported.

For the math challenged : That’s an actual 40 to 200people that are currently carrying/spreading covid19 in Humboldt.

No actually theres this whole field of study called statistics.
Based on evidence from other countries who have actually provided citizens enough tests, we can gauge the impact here.
The state said on one of their last releases that they expect 53% of Californians to get it. The statistics on mortality from virus vary based on age and previous underlying conditions. Mortality is very high on those over 80 but a 21 year old did die.

From Sac Bee. ..

Sacramento’s top health official said Thursday that testing for the coronavirus in the region is so far behind where it should be that the actual number of people infected with the virus here could be 20 to 100 times higher than what’s been reported.

The federal government has been “woefully inadequate” in delivering test materials like swabs and reagents, county health director Peter Beilenson said, forcing public health officials and healthcare providers to ration tests to the most vulnerable cases.

There are more cases. Testing numbers are not positive patients numbers. There were 4000 newly tested cases in the US today, and when those tests finally do hit, the numbers are going to be astronomical. I haven’t been out for days, but was forced to today. The traffic was normal. Most nonessential businesses were open on Broadway at least, and all of Rio Del was hopping and open, including the essential dollar store (ridiculous). Keep it up. This is the reason they’ll start enforcing and mandating even more. Thank God.

We hardly have healthcare in Humboldt, as it is.
It’s here, people. Go read up, before you start killing your friends.
Cases are doubling every four days in this state.
Stay put, please.
No need to try to prove you’re invincible or immune, or will not pass without symptoms (for probably longer than 2 weeks).
I’m tired of getting flack for telling people to be careful — that our government didn’t do it in January or December when it should have so here we are now. They basically let this happen.
Do you really want to wait until you suddenly feel like you have malaria for 10 days just to see if you survive? Or infect your family? Because that’s possibly what it could be like for you, thank you.
It’s here. It’s everywhere. People have been traveling here from Seattle for the last 6 weeks when people started getting it up there. And many people have traveled here from San Francisco in the last few months.
It is because we do not have tests that we do not have an accurate number.
It’s here. Be forewarned.

The information I would really like is what age group the person is in. I know we can’t have a ton of details about the person because the public is dumb and will be horrible to said person, but I’d like to know the appx age. I feel like a lot of young people are not taking it seriously, so if it is a young person, maybe that would be a reality check.

I saw where a man went into a Fortuna restaurant and after eating informed the waitress he had been out of the country and had been sick since returning. I would have gone to jail that day!

I was in northern humboldt today, and there were fucking tons of absolutely non-essential businesses still operating. People are not taking this seriously at all. It’s probably going to take the sheriff going around and threatening businesses and their customers before this stops.

Non essential verbal communication DEFINED.

no one needs to hear about your opinions anymore, because they aren’t going to do jack sheet for anyone.

You and everyone you know is non essential in the big picture.

You want proof?

Try calling anyone outside your small circle of friends and see what happens about anything?

Non essential.

Again, another non essential assumption, based on lots of free time and misplaced awareness.

“The sky is falling”, for so many people here.

The governor should shut down all non essential fear /hate mongering as well.

Maybe we need to describe this happening as a “Plainclothes Zombie Apocalypse”. Then some of the morons who post here would take it seriously. It won’t be long until we see the torch carrying villagers chasing Corona patients.

NORA State the obvious of course there are more cases (EVERYWHERE) that’s why we are all asked to shelter in place. It’s called the Dollar General not the Dollar Tree. The Dollar General an Dollar Tree were opened in Fortuna. It’s funny you say you were forced out today. Everyone has tough choices to make and you are validating yours and criticizing others. I am sure just like yourself they felt they needed to go out also. There are major stores opened all over this state to help people through this uncertain time. Just because it’s in Rio Dell you feel the need to hate. It’s amazing you didn’t notice the bar open or bother to inquire on senior services that Dollar General is offering to the community in their town and surrounding areas. If you must be so critical of others needs to be out running around perhaps set an example and STAY HOME !!!! It’s a time to build up our communities not run them into the ground. You have no proof that Rio Dell will have any cases or a larger number than any other place in our state. Put your energy into your business instead of creating fear and problems where there may not be any.

So are you staying at home? If your not I’ll be at yours I never said I was out in public. I have made the choice to stay in but that there are things happening to help the elderly and folks with comprised immune systems. If everyone would do the same and stay home we could defeat this thing. So my ignorant self will do just that. Good luck to you.

I would absolutely like to say to our Humboldt County community. I’m wishing you all the best health and happiness as possible. Also, I would like to give credit to my (kinda cousin) who was the first person confirmed here in Humboldt County, after coming back from a high risk country. What he did was the best thing anybody can do in this situation, was remove himself to a very isolated camp site, way far away and secluded from anyone, just Incase he were to get sick. He wanted to protect his family, friends and his community that he loves so very much!!!! We and the community are so very proud of him!!! He DID get sick while he secluded himself and didn’t come back until he was better. It was a mild case and he is so lucky to be with us today!!!! We all as a family and community should praise him as he did everything right. Prime example of vigilance and respect to all.
Any persons coming from any travesl should be following this practice before rejoining family and community!!!! How important this is and what a positive thing he did for all of us. Blessings to you all and please, dear community, take this as serious at it really is!!! STAY HOME!!! If you must pick a crew to hunker down with, to no be alone and keep you from straying, do so wisely and stay committed to each other and all of us!!! Love to you all!!!

People were given very short notice of these lock downs.

Give people a break, many that were wiping their butts at work now need toilet paper at home, of which after weeks of waiting is still not available. They will keep looking until they get some.

Toilet paper is made in the USA we’re not waiting for China or Russia to send it, so where is it?
Same goes for organic milk & bread, really bread! Which is also in short supply.

This is a lesson in how disorganized our manufacturing companies have become and how lawmakers have been focused on how to tax, fine, fee & penalize us instead of making sure our country can function in a crisis.

It’s not affecting me I have TP and I can live without milk and bake bread but it does affect many.

Thank you to friends that call and check to see if my family is ok. This is also a time to be grateful as well as learn lessons.

Instead of complaining find a way to pay something forward even if it’s just a cheerful phone call to someone.

Whether you’re infected, not infected, a carrier whatever, Americans should be supportive of each other in any way they can, while protecting their and other peoples health.

People make better decisions when they know they are loved and cared about. When people make good decisions that’s good for you!

All numbers can be represented as fractions.
Like so: 1,000,000/1,000,000
And without factual data and variables due to a lack of testing we really can’t confirm anything. Of course thanks to the giant orange dildo we have neither.

A massive majority of people in your communities already have it and will spread it to the vulnerable.

Just wait two weeks, all of your lives will be affected and known cases will sky rocket.

Humboldt is isolated, and spread of the virus there has been delayed, but just wait.

Once it gets into small towns it will infect almost 50 percent of the population.

Half of the population of the state of CA will be infected within 8 weeks. 20 million people. That’s from the governors office, not a conspiracy theorist. We are along a major corridor between the two most infected populations on the west coast. Lets do some simple math here….Testing was inadequate or not available unless you are so bad you had to be admitted to a hospital until very recently. The idea that that there is only 1 case here is either willful false information or a c.y.a procedure by the local health authorities. If you’ve seen people on the street, in medical, friends, colleagues, and they all present similar symtoms….it doesn’t take much to connect the dots. Most people have mild symptoms and the symtoms and severity vary widely from person to person. Protect yourselves and your families as if this is very much within our community! There will be a lot of history written and soul searching about the response to this crisis when this is all said and done.

Does an infected individual stay a transmitter for the virus even after recovery and or death. I think that could provide us with a good idea as to how far it could go as well.

I was in Freight Harbor tools the other day and there was a large heavy set man in his 40s or 50s that had a really bad cough. He looked sicker than 14 lbs of hog sh*t. You can tell a person is really sick when they get the certain look their eyes. I think this virus is all over Humboldt. People have it and are going out into the public. They don’t give a rip.

Globalization is the problem. Not only did it sell out the base of our financial economy, it also sold out the base of our REAL economy. Now we can’t even produce gloves and masks. Let’s hope war doesn’t brake out, cuzz we don’t process steel anymore either. We were screwed by free trade long ago. Of course American labor couldn’t compete with communist labor…now we are dependent. I long for the days of America independence….the good old days of Victory gardens and Rosey the rivetor…before NAFTA and free trade ruined the USA. Now we’re in a war against a virus, and we don’t have the levers, or the machines, or the materials, to produce the tools to win. Fu#* GLOBALIZATION.

Over here in Trinity, had a fella in his 60s that occasionally works for me call up with a 103o fever, muscle aches, coughing and a bit of heavy breathing. Asked him if he’d called the doctor to be checked and tested. Nope, because he didn’t want to be quarantined and possibly relocated. Asked if he’d then been self-isolating, he said yep… After going to CVS, getting something at Burger King, and getting gas. Yikes. He’s now fine and driving around, but one wonders how many people paid and will pay for those decisions. Don’t believe the “zero” confirmed, tested county accounts out there, folks. There are plenty of people who won’t be tested and won’t self-isolate, either out of inconvenience, fear, ignorance, lack of caring, or lack of tests. Don’t drink the Kool-Aid… At least not until you sanitize the lip of the glass and spike it with Everclear.

Forget about the testing and The Who has it or who doesn’t arguments. The Number of cases being reported doesn’t say anything, with more testing the number will go up. Look at the number of deaths in the US from the virus. That is the statistic that isn’t affected by testing or the unknown number of untested cases. For the 3rd largest country (by population) in the world is pretty freaking low. That’s the most important statistic. We have a very populous country with relatively small number of deaths.

So far.
We are weeks behind European countries on the unfolding of this thing. Taking it lightly or dismissing it is not smart. Better to do too much than too little.
Forget about testing? Hmm-it does give us more information, such as how many are walking around infected but asymptomatic. That will affect the spread.

At this point in time im feeling it would be beneficial to everyone to use our real names on this post, not hide behind fences and sling mud…But then again maybe this page is just a steam release valve for hot heads and trolls. Maybe its helpful to release gas…..in that case…. sling on…………Stay home. stay strong, love your family , pet the dog. Exercise. Listen closely to your favorite music, work in the garden, call a friend………And as Big Bird said……”BREATH…. IN AND OUT.”..
