[UPDATE 10:02 p.m.] A Multiple Vehicle Crash Near Smith River, CA Tonight

According to scanner traffic an accident has occurred on Highway 101 just south of the Oregon border at the Dollar General just south of Smith River, CA. Three ambulances have been requested “code 3” which means “lights and sirens.” First responders are double checking with dispatch to be sure the ambulances know they need to rush.
Scanner traffic indicates three people need to be extracted from their vehicles. The CHP page says samaritans helped pull victims out of the wrecked vehicles.
The CHP Incident Page indicates there are “3 to 4” vehicles involved.
UPDATE 7:50 p.m.: Two patients have been evacuated to the hospital. Traffic is being re-routed on to Fred Haight Drive at Dr. Fine Bridge heading north and at the township of Smith River for southbound drivers.
UPDATE 8:40 p.m.: CHP’s Incident page indicates the highway traffic is still being detoured onto Fred Haight Drive where highway traffic is impacting residents unaccustomed to through traffic. It also says there were 4 vehicles involved in the crash and that the incident has been deemed a “major injury accident.”
UPDATE 10:02 p.m.: The CHP reports the roadway is now open.
