[UPDATE 10:09 a.m.] Fire Broke Out This Morning in Home Where Homicide Occurred Last Night

A fire broke out this morning about 6:40 a.m. at the home in the 2200 block of Union Street in Eureka where a youth was fatally shot last night.

The first firefighters on scene reported finding light smoke coming from the rear of the single story structure. They first reported it was a fire in the attic.

Eureka Police responded to the scene also.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

UPDATE 8:28 a.m.: Humboldt Bay Battalion Chief Chris Emmons said that a cat and some pet mice perished in the incident. The cause is still under investigation but has been narrowed to a specific area where the fire is believed to have started.

UPDATE 10:09 a.m.: Brittany Powell, spokesperson for Eureka Police Department tells us that her department was “briefed by Humboldt Bay Fire on the fire this morning and it is being considered unrelated to our investigation.”

Without knowing the story, it is a lot of misery to have been visited on one household. My sympathies to those dealing with it.

Uh shouldn’t it be acrime scene where no ones allowed????
They must know exactly who did it but whoa how is the DA supposed to build a case without good evidence?

All mass shooters in our country were domestic violence abusers, many against family members growing up. It seems like one of the family members here may be an abuser. For a mom to shoot her kid, somethings up!

So why does it have to be one of the parents being abusers how do we know what the kid may have done to put his mom in that position today is all a kid has to do is yell abuse and the parents gone let’s wait before passing judgment
