Press release from HSU:

Humboldt State University has expanded its investigation into allegations that a faculty member may have solicited paid sex from multiple students.

The safety and well-being of the campus community is extremely important. The investigation follows anonymous reports received by the University last Thursday. Significant progress has been made since the allegations first surfaced. Given the severity of the allegations, the University has taken precautionary steps in order to protect students from harm.

Because this investigation involves University personnel, the information the University will be able to share about outcomes will vary. Findings and actions involving personnel matters are highly confidential.

The University encourages anyone who may have been harmed to seek assistance through the following campus support services.

  • Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) provides a variety of support services. You may make an appointment by calling (707) 826-3236. If you are having a crisis, you may reach a CAPS therapist 24 hours a day at the same number (707) 826-3236.
  • The Campus Advocate Team (CAT) is an on-campus resource for students, staff, and faculty at HSU. CAT is a program of the North Coast Rape Crisis Team, a private nonprofit organization that has been contracted by HSU to provide specialized services to the HSU community. CAT provides 24-hour, confidential support to any HSU student, staff, or faculty who wants to talk about harm they’ve survived (sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, stalking), or explore their options for support and/or holding accountable the person who harmed them. CAT can be reached at (707) 445-2881, 24 hours a day. On-campus appointments are available.
  • The Dean of Students Office can help students navigate the steps of any reporting process and provide support and advocacy while navigating a formal complaint, as well as helping students find resources on- and off-campus to best meet their needs. You can reach the office at (707) 826-3504.
  • Human Resources handles staff employment as well as Title IX matters and can be reached at (707) 826-3626. Academic Personnel Services handles employment and related responsibilities for faculty, and can be reached at (707) 826-5086.

The University also requests that anyone with information report it to one of the offices listed below. The Title IX Office helps students navigate accountability and accommodation for incidents of harm. The University Police Department, which operates from a trauma-informed perspective, assists with accountability and responds to reports of criminal activity.

  • Title IX Office, David Hickcox at office (707) 826-5177, cell (707) 296-4032, or [email protected].
  • University Police Department at (707) 826-5555.

Good on HSU for reporting it immediately rather than covering it up. This is exactly how incidents like this should be handled.

What they said! Campus police just want to sweep things under the rug to keep good face for the university and keep rape and assault statistics down. Go to the local police

Call APD, CHP and FBI. I doubt the sheriff will do anything. There’s an entire ring of sex predators behind the Humboldt establishment. The County victim witness building sits across from the Court house on 5th to discourage victims from coming forward. Never seen anything like this anywhere. Epstein and company would have loved Humboldt. It’s a real Oasis for sex traffickers.

Interesting that there is a press release.

We hope there is a careful investigation, and that there is clear documentation of whatever occurred.

There are many options for reporting and counseling, but when it comes right down to it, it’s not what you know, it’s what you can prove…

We hope that nobody came to actual physical harm, and the best way to handle an abuser, is with voice recordings, photos, and video. Report incidents promptly. Document encounters carefully.

If someone is making you uncomfortable, the fastest way to deal with it is to say:

“You are making me uncomfortable, and I want you to stop it”.

Be safe, be well…

How do you know they’re youth? Most students at HSU are of the “youth” age of 18. So, if you are referring to me as “lacking in empathy” you would be dead wrong. In addition, you have many posters that are lacking in empathy here so go bark up another tree.

In the early 1970’s, there were a couple of sex incidents involving college teachers and students in southern Calif. The women were solicited for sex. The boyfriends paid a visit to the “teachers”, and, had a “talk” with them, which included getting physical, and the teachers left. In those days there were consequences for being a fuckup. The consequences are gone now, and predators are allowed to prey on the innocents. We would like to see a return to consequences for a predators actions. Confront them and harass them, push them around, let them know they are sick fucks and will not be tolerated. Stop them in the parking lot at school, surround them, don’t let them out of their car. Self police. These same students who are being preyed upon would, at the same time, use violence to harass a person on your campus wearing a MAGA hat. Why do you ignore or allow predation on the vulnerable on your campus, but go after a hat? The more you allow these asshole to prey, the more they will, and you snowflakes are the reason why.

I can’t find any articles about MAGA hat people being “harassed” in Arcata, but this sounds suspiciously like special pleading from a snowflake. Does the first amendment go out the window when people are criticizing YOUR choice of headgear?

“We will give workers an ownership stake in the companies they work for…” -Bernie Sanders

“The secret of the expression of value, namely, that all kinds of labour are equal and equivalent, because, and so far as they are human labour in general, cannot be deciphered, until the notion of human equality has already acquired the fixity of a popular prejudice. This, however, is possible only in a society in which the great mass of the produce of labour takes the form of commodities, in which, consequently, the dominant relation between man and man, is that of owners of commodities.”

Karl Marx, Capital, Volume I, Chapter One (1867)

No, 7:1 is too close.

Maybe like 16:1

So if the lowest paid worker at a business is making 15$ hourly grossing 28k a year – the executive will make no more than 460k (16×28k) a year.

The only way to make more $ as an executive is to give more raises to the lowest paid workers.

It’s weird that you think that.

He’s the 3rd President to be impeached.

The midterm elections were a huge defeat to the Republican party.

His administration has a higher turnover rate than any other, with an 82% turnover rate for “A Team” officials.

Trump would be very hard to work for, having never learned from experience what most politicians learn early, that bureaucracies have a passive aggressive way of ensuring their own power. And came into the Presidency without having previously developed a network of bureaucrats as support AND having a basic anti bureaucrat agenda. That he feels he has a mandate to eliminate various entrenched bureaucracies comes because he was elected based on promising to do so. Indeed he is making it up as he goes along without much collaboration as the only consensus in goverment is aligned against him. That does not make the forces against him right- just powerful. They are pretty much autocratic bastards too. Just autocratic bastards in smaller ways. They have tried to sink him like they sunk Jimmy Carter and Nixon and Bush only to discover that embarrassing him did not get the effect they were looking to get.

If he wins a second term, look out. He has learned it’s him against the forces of what he considers stupidity and will have learned how to ignore them. As it is there are no serious challengers on the horizon as they have all treated Trump like political chum in the water and greedily fallen victims to it themselves. If there isn’t a deus ex machina for the Democrats, they will continue on their useless path. They need to find a hero but, having complained loudly over every thing Trump is or does, they can’t seem to find one who is not hurt just as much by their own words. That is what happens when your only tactic is loud name called. Oh well. America has been dpsaved before by heroes. It could happen again but it will be despite the liberals.

As for Sanders-

If the age of 24 is the new cutoff age for “youth”, as kym states, then the law should reflect that.
No drivers liscence, no right to vote until your 25.

Attack me for saying this but…Here we are again with the uncomfortable dilemma- If a female is equal to a male and adulthood begins at 18 then she should be capable of turning down offers and propositions for her sex. If she is not and is a victim of her own poor decisions then you are saying she is not an adult- and that males are also not adults at 18! Because we insist that men and women are equal. This does not apply to rape or assault of course. Just HER decision to sell her sex, share her sexuality or NOT. Please help me understand what we are supposed to do? I believe women are equal to men, that they are strong enough to make their own decisions and that they have every right to bargain with their sex if that’s what they choose. Or is it that we think it’s okay to send 18 year olds into war yet we need to oversee their sexual choices? Or that guys are more mature than gals? What are we saying?!!

I am the son of two longtime professors that were employed at HSU. My father told me long ago that he was regularly approached by his female students about sex (when he was young and handsome). He told me he politely refused them all, telling them that while they were certainly attractive, it would be inappropriate. He was an ethical man.
The idea of any professor asking any student for paid sex is not acceptable. The environment at HSU is supposed to be safe. That means everyone is safe; not just liberals or conservatives, not just men or women, gay or straight, but everyone.
When a woman or man offers to solicit sex, as in prostituting themselves, they know the actions they are taking, which are illegal. When men (or women) offer money to women (or men) for sex, it is illegal. It is an entirely different situation than this one is. The question in this case is not if it is legal. It’s is it unethical, and should it be allowed to happen at an institution like HSU? This case sounds like it is a violation that should not be allowed to go unpunished, or unaddressed.
All teachers should be held to a high standard with students. It’s a matter of ethics. While it might be legal to do something, it is not always acceptable or ethical to do it.
As a department head in an isolated job situation I was given specific training in this area. It was called sexual harassment back then, and we were all told that while it may or may not be legal to engage in sex with someone we had direct control over, it was sexual misconduct, and was not tolerated. Job termination was the punishment for this type of behaviour. The professor in this case should be placed on leave while the investigation takes place, and an appropriate punishment applied when completed. This professor has put HSU at liability for his or her actions, and how HSU handles this case going forward will show everyone just how serious they (HSU) take this kind of infraction.
Guess the new HSU president has his work cut out for him.

O.k. , Over It. You asked.

Next time you want to put women “in their place” by saying a woman shouldn’t play the game because they are not equal, remember there is nowhere the game is not played. A woman can be targeted whether she is smarter than you, better educated, more talented, wiser, kinder. If she hides, she will be found. If she doesn’t, she will be targeted. She simply has to exist and some jackass, no matter how inferior in every other respect, will fall back to out muscling her. Because the stupid think that way and there are a fair number of stupids in the world.
