Few places on earth are both as beautiful, benign yet challenging as the North Coast of California. I truly love it.
Get out and stretch your legs people, and enjoy the view down the bluff!! I feel sorry for the truck driver having his rig bite the dust in that spot. Wonder if they can unhook the tractor from the trailer and tow it off, while bringing in another tractor to hook up and tow off the trailer. Finding a tow truck that can haul off 60 tons will be a minor miracle.
If one looks at Last Chance Grade from a ship in the ocean one will never want to drive this stretch of highway again.
California Records Project is a program that flies a helicopter and takes photos of the coastline. If you start here and click the “northwest 1” button, you’ll see the entire coast line at Last Chance Grade.
