Another Murder Trial Begins For HBO Subject With Humboldt Link
As discussed in this week’s episode of Humboldt Last Week, a jury will soon be selected in Los Angeles as former Trinidad resident Robert Durst faces a possible five-month trial related to the murder of his former friend Susan Berman. Local viewers of HBO’s “The Jinx” likely noticed the notion that Durst flew into ACV and then drove to Southern California to commit the crime nearly two decades ago.
Durst, a millionaire real estate heir, has been accused in the disappearance of his ex-wife in the 1980s, a claim of self-defense allowed him to be acquitted in the dismemberment of a friend while living in Texas in the early 2000s, and in 2015 shortly after the release of “The Jinx,” he was arrested and formally accused of Berman’s murder.
According to recent reports, Durst’s legal team admitted he wrote a “cadaver note” alerting cops to the location of Berman’s body but noted that doesn’t prove he murdered her. It was also reported the jury will likely hear evidence related to the notion that Durst wanted to prevent Berman from discussing the disappearance of his ex-wife. Durst has pleaded not guilty.
Rolling Stone has some good recent coverage here.
This article in The Guardian discusses the possibility that Durst’s local presence could be related to the 1990s disappearance of Karen Mitchell.
Humboldt Last Week listeners may remember a report involving a local shuttle driver who noted Durst would often ask him about local police activity.
The current trial could take as long as five months, wrote the New York Times.

I met him, fifteen years ago; I was told there was nothing left; no reason, no conscience, no understanding; and even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, of good or evil, right or wrong. I met this six-year-old child, with this blank, pale, emotionless face, and the blackest eyes… the devil’s eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up because I realized that what was living behind that boy’s eyes was purely and simply… evil.
What in the world does quoting lines from the original “Halloween” have anything to do with Robert Durst?
Let’s stick to quoting the best, most Humboldtiest Holloween movie, Holloween 3!

his eyes are wickedly vacant.
reminds me of someone else, can’t put my finger on who tho……
Okay.
While looking for a pic of him in drag, I found the color version of the above pic.
You’re close enough to give that to you.
Now, for that Hillary pic, it’s too bad you can’t add an audio clip of the South Park townspeople screaming “He took your job!”
W.H., I think you might have an interesting story. What you have written is hard to follow. Who, what, where, when?
Another New YorK City real estate heir. I am noticing a pattern here. Lotta scumbags in that group.
I’d be willing to bet that he knows what happened to Karen Mitchell. Him or Jones. One of the two.
I hope this trial eventually leads to closure for Karen Mitchell’s family. They deserve answers even after all this time.
He was my sisters niebor
We were lucky
Yes they do. Its been WAY TOO LONG!!!
Even Dominick Dunne did a piece on this guy in Power Privilege and Justice. This dude is intelligent, cunning, and manages to get away with murder more than once.
