Three Arrested After Woman Allegedly Runs Over Bicyclist Intentionally Giving Him Major Injuries

This is a press release from the California Highway Patrol. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

CHP TC PR2On 2/14/2020, at approximately 0958 hours, the CHP Ukiah Communication Center was notified by Willits Police Department of a possible hit-and-run traffic collision that occurred in an unincorporated neighborhood near the city of Willits. During a combined effort between the California Highway Patrol, Mendocino County Sheriffs office and the Willits Police Department, it was determined the incident occurred on Locust St. at the intersection of County Road 315.

An intense and thorough investigation was initiated and investigators learned the suspect [Janice Longcrier] was involved in an argument with a subject riding a bicycle when [Longcrier] intentionally ran him over with her vehicle. [Longcrier]’s husband (Eugene Stephens Jr.) and son-in-law ([James Dean King, see [below]) assisted [Longcrier] in fleeing from the scene and hiding evidence of the crime.

[Longcrier], Stephens Jr. and King were arrested and booked into the Mendocino County Jail.

The 31 year old male victim riding the bicycle suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. The victim’s identity is being withheld until notifications have been made to his family.CHP TC PR

Note: The CHP’s press release uses the last name Logerier but the Sheriff’s booking log uses Longcrier. We believe the latter is the correct name and have made that change in brackets.

I hope the cyclist recovers. She should be charged with attempted murder and never be allowed to drive again.

She has mental health issues and I agree this is tragic but since the driver is a family friend and mother of my grandkids please refrain from talking crap about what you have no idea about. No matter what the argument was about justice will prevail and I have prayed for the victom, his family and jannie’s family. So why don’t you pray rather than talk crap people. Thank you

Wtf WHO even does that?!

I’ve known Jannie all my life, she doesn’t have mental health issues. She has a very bad drug problem, like most people in Willits. Everyone tries to say mental health problems, if she would get off drugs she wouldn’t have any problems…….

I agree with charge of attempted manslaughter. But it may be really hard to prove intent.

From the report above she was charged with 664/187 pc, where CA Penal Code 664 covers attempted crimes and 187 covers murder. So, yes, attempted murder.

Edit: After posting I realized this came off as insolent. My intent was only to inform, not to be rude.

Ban Birkenstock’s n Prius’s. (Only when together though). Don’t worry people, we will all be forced to have auto driven cars that are controlled by the government for your safety. Another freedom down the drain. Want to see what California will be like in 50 years? Watch the movie demolished man. Yep, just like that. Even cussing will be against the law!

That’s only the direct contact human kills.

There are also very large numbers of deer and pet deaths

And we should add the whole planet, 7 billion people and an entire ecosystem because cars are the primary driver of global warming arent they now

No, fossil fuel extraction itself is the the largest single user of fossil fuels. Meat, dairy and the Military contribute more potent greenhouse gases than automobiles as well (methane and CFCs.)

Thankfully in all my years of riding the streets of Eureka, I’ve never been hit by a car or truck intentionally or unintentionally, and over the years, I got pretty good at sensing a driver’s mood without even talking to them, and avoiding some serious situations.

Wishing the cyclist a full recovery.

Weird time to brag, but nice attempt at seeming like you care about others by throwing in that tiny line after your self righteous brag.

Just pointing out the fact that I haven’t been involved in a collision stemming from an argument, regardless whether I’m driving a car or riding my bicycle.

🕯1.👁So what were they arguing about? Drugs, domestic problems or who has the right of way? Common sense in a County that’s notorious for all of the above???.☄🛸

In using my personal experiences as a guide, I would guess it likely might have been about who had priorities to the roadway. Again, this is just a guess.
