Sheriff’s Office Says They Are Thankful for ‘Positive Relationships’ With the SoHum Community that Led to Arrest of Wanted Man

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Arlotta and badgeOn Feb. 10, 2020, at about 3:40 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies received a citizen tip that wanted subject Aaron Ashley Arlotta, 30, was seen shooting a firearm in the area of Kings Peak Road near Shelter Cove. Arlotta was reportedly with two other subjects at the time.

Deputies arrived in the area and observed a vehicle with two occupants leaving Arlotta’s last known location. A short time later, deputies located Arlotta on the roadside. When deputies attempted to contact Arlotta, he fled on foot down a hillside and into a heavily wooded area. Deputies pursued Arlotta on foot until it became unsafe to do so due to rough and rugged terrain.

In the meantime, California Highway Patrol officers assisting the Sheriff’s Office with this investigation contacted the two occupants of the vehicle that had left the scene. Law enforcement learned that the female occupant had sustained minor injuries from a physical altercation with Arlotta prior to leaving the scene. Additionally, a firearm believed to be associated with Arlotta was recovered from the vehicle.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., deputies received another citizen tip that Arlotta had been located inside of a home on the 1100 block of Kings Peak Road. Additionally, deputies learned that neighbors of the residence had conducted a citizen’s arrest of Arlotta, detaining him until deputies’ arrival.

Deputies arrived on scene and took custody of Arlotta. During a search of Arlotta, deputies located a concealed knife.

Arlotta was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of felon in possession of a firearm (PC 29800(a)(1)), inflicting corporal injury on a spouse (PC 273.5(a)), carrying a concealed dirk or dagger (PC 21310), resisting arrest (PC 148(a)(1)) and parole revocation (PC 3000.08(f)). He is being held without bail.

This case is still under investigation and is being forwarded to the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office for review.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the citizens of Shelter Cove for continuing to provide information regarding Arlotta’s whereabouts, leading to his arrest. The Sheriff’s Office is thankful for the positive relationships being built with the citizens of Southern Humboldt and the community support, working together to create safer neighborhoods.

I think it was generated by disgust with the SO’s inability to do anything. Didn’t they just have a giant posse out there a couple of weeks ago? Thank you citizens, you are vigilant, the sheriff is podunk.
