Technically, the bike hit the vehicle. That’s not to say which was at fault. The cyclist was conscious when the ambulance took them away.

Hope their okay, 25-35 MPH thru there. I’ve been working up on that Hill last few weeks, almost every evening I’m coming down the mountain at just about dark 5- 5 :15 there’s mountain bikers riding up to the hill with no bike lights and oftentimes dressed and mostly black. With cars and trucks racing up the hill. That road has no shoulder for bikes to ride on so drivers swerve into the incoming traffic…

She has spinal injury, maybe you could share this go fund me in your news post. This is a very very athletic woman, a endurance athlete with a incredible amount of road and trail biking experience and sure she had all safety gear and was appropriately dressed. According to CA state law bikes have rIght away. If you can’t pass safely then you have to stay in the lane and follow them no matter how slow, you must wait until safe to pass and give them 3 feet. At some point it has become expected and accepted that only motorized vehicles have right to travel the roadways, that anyone on foot, a bike, a horse is in the way…and their own fault if they get hit…there is more then one way to travel.. share the road people… so sad my uber strong friend has a long road of pain ahead, but if anyone can overcome she can. Now come together as a community and help her! https://www.gofundme.com/f/z8axzh-life-is-but-a-dream?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link-tip&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet

Bikes generally have the same obligations, with a couple of exceptions,to follow right of way rules as motorized vehicles. “Bicyclists must obey STOP signs and red signal lights, and follow basic right-of-way rules. ” https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/?1dmy&urile=wcm:path:/dmv_content_en/dmv/pubs/brochures/fast_facts/ffdl37

The vehicle, all by itself, drove out to that road to hit someone? See, this is why I don’t like autonomous vehicles. If there was a driver, do they have insurance? That should cover her medical care. Will charges be brought against the driver (if there was one), or was it a “tragic accident” that “couldn’t have been avoided”?
