[UPDATE 4:41 p.m.] Wade Harris Released Just After Midnight

Wade Harris

Wade Harris

Wade Harris was released from the Humboldt County Correctional Facility at 12:04 a.m., January 30. He was previously arrested January 27 west of Miranda on private property about a half mile from where a vehicle was stashed that law enforcement had been pursuing following a report of thieves at an unoccupied property in the Salmon Creek area on the same day.

After surveillance cameras alerted those in charge of a property that was being burglarized, neighbors interrupted the theft. Two vehicles fled the area headed east towards the highway. One was stopped in the Swinnockville area of Salmon Creek by law enforcement. One, that had reached Swinnockville, turned and fled west.

Law enforcement pursued the pickup but temporarily lost sight of it. They later found the vehicle abandoned in the woods off a private driveway. Harris was located on a remote private property not far from the abandoned truck that law enforcement had pursued.

Two other people were arrested in connection with the theft (that included an apparent attempt to burn down a structure) and the attempt to evade law enforcement are also out of jail.

A propane torch sits near a charred post. A neighbor said when he arrived the propane torch was lit and burning the post. [Photo provided by the neighbor]

  • Wesley Evans was charged with resisting arrest and released on his own recognizance.
  • Heather Taylor was reported missing after she didn’t contact family for several days. She was located staying in an empty yurt not far from where Harris was arrested. She was cited and released.

A number of law enforcement officers, including a K-9 officer worked together to assist in capturing the suspects.

Less than four days after the first suspect was captured, all three suspects, two of whom have a long history of  crimes and alleged crimes, are free. And residents of the remote neighborhood are worried.

We have not yet been able to reach the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office for more information.

Note: Readers should be aware that this reporter lives in the area and many of the witnesses I spoke with for this story and those earlier are people I have relationships with including a former student, close friends, and dear neighbors. Many of them braved possible dangerous situations to help the people victimized. Others rushed to check on residents in the even more remote reaches of this remote area. I count myself fortunate to live among such a close community.

UPDATE 4:41 p.m.: Wade Harris Back in Jail Today, Says Sheriff’s Office

Earlier Chapters in the Manhunt in Salmon Creek:

Earlier Incidents Involving Wade Harris:

Earlier Incidents Involving Wesley Evans:

According to an article by John Chiv in November, Wesley Evans had 47 cases in the Humboldt County Court system at the time. A photo of Evans is available there.

12:04 A.M.?? I thought they were suppose to stop releasing inmates at that hour. Just in time for him to go out and wreck more havoc. HCSO seems not to have learned much, or taken heed over the years to a bad practice the community does not support. Who gains from releasing a thief in the dark of the middle of the night? I Do Not Get It. Can they explain?

And yet they continue to whinge about low staffing and difficult recruitment. What honest officer would want to work for a department that supports criminals over citizens. Protect and serve Wade Harris? Assholes.

You seem to be blaming the only group interesting in keeping criminals off the streets when it’s the State and California voters who have demanded they be released. Prison realignment in a State that encourages illegal immigration and drug use doesn’t mean less crime. It mean the State pushes the responsibility for controlling in down the governmental food chain until it reaches the public, who are the ones who both vote for things that create more crime yet refuse to pay for housing criminals.

If that was their interest, they would be collecting more evidence and making better cases. They give lip service only to the idea of removing criminals from our neighborhoods. They are always a day late.

Snitching is big business in law enforcement! An acquaintance of mine told me why she was leaving the “pot” scene! She said, “People are making more money snitching than growing!” Remember, former County Sheriff Renner did time for stealing the “snitch” money. So, watch ‘yo back people! Happy Birthday everybody… cultivate in your life: LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, TRUSTFULNESS, GENTLENESS, and SELF-CONTROL as there is no law against these and they are FREE!

What the hell is going on with these catch and release scenarios?? Cant we keep these *&&^%$ nuts locked up for at least a couple days so they can maybe detox a little?

I don’t understand this process, we pay the LEO to catch the perps, they do their jobs and lock them up, then they are released faster than the paperwork can dry.

Just wait until the governor eliminates bail! Its going to get much even more exciting now that he has made it basically legal to deal drugs, shoot up and steal to support your habit.

The governor is not eliminating bail. Cash bail keeps poor people incarcerated even if they are not a danger to the community. The new rules call for evaluating risk and denying release to those who do pose increased risk. Like Mr. Harris.

Yes 12:04 midnight and he bailed. They will not be released to the street after midnight unless they have a ride. If they have no ride they must wait until after breakfast. This has been our policy for some time. Of course bail bonds could have picked him up too.

Those aren’t the people who get killed. The murdered are the partners who squabble over money or perceived violations of trust or who simply aggravate each other at the wrong time. Apparently no one trusts this guy in the first place and it would be a cold blooded killing if he would be assassinated.

I’m starting to think we need to organize an independent, donation-funded, volunteer police force and justice system that actually works to help the community, as it’s becoming increasingly obvious that the official ones here have absolutely no interest in stopping any crime they can’t profit off of.

Hopefully it won’t come to late-night backhoe work like someone suggested a couple days ago, but at some point we have to stop letting these people harm others.

If you are voting for Democrat individuals for this county and state then you have NOTHING to say about the laws that are in effect at this time. You have put them in place. You are releasing criminals to do over and over. The only people that have a grip and the only people that will make a change in this now filthy, disrespectful state are the Republican, hard working people.

Hahaha. Only republicans are fine upstanding law abiding citizens? Is Trump your example? Being a Republican doesn’t make you any better than anyone else. By labeling anyone not a Republican, as less than, you are part of the problem in this country. I won’t vote for anyone that wants to take my rights or the rights of other citizens away. Prop 47 (catch and release) was approved by voters. Is it stupid? Yes. Maybe instead of blaming all Democrats, and banging on your hate drum, go out with a petition to overturn it. Peace out. I wish you well, and maybe some therapy.

The thought process for this is simple- first hold the belief that government is responsible for the individual and owes them a good life. IE socialism. Once that is the bottom line, then it is easy to raise a bumper crop of victims who blame everyone but themselves for their bad behavior and must therefore be provided with every consideration.

The squeeze comes when the victims so out number the self responsible that the mechanics for dealing with all these special victim considerations are overwhelmed and fail. Aren’t we there yet?

The Democrats would have certainly dug up something on Trump by now that stuck if he was as bad in reality as the Anti Trumpers wanted him to be. What is typical with the current crop of Democrats is that they truly believe that not thinking the same as they do is the only crime worth talking about. That is the only crime that they have yet brought- that being disagreeable is a crime. Just like your remark assumed your hate is all that anyone should require as proof.

Or the Democrat House had their political goals and the Republican Senate had theirs. The pot calling the kettle black. You just know, absolutely know, Trump must be guilty of something and you’re going to keep pushing until you create an “obstruction” out of nothing. The House had all the time, resources and money to develop a case. They preferred timely political posturing to investigation or they couldn’t make something out what was there. But then again to please people who want a conviction, they didn’t have to.

It is hard to find the virtue in people who cheer or hiss based on who they have designated a Villain rather than what is done. But people who do that are never going to see what they do as an evil.

Stephanie, you have your head in the sand. It is a known realization that Democrats are bleeding hearts for even the most violent scumbags. Democrats think that they can reform these rats without strong consequences. Republicans are hard working, law abiding people that feel for every action there is a reaction. In other words, there should be fair justice for laws broken. In my opinion, I do feel that Republicans views are better than Democrats for our country and county. It is what it is.

Maybe Republicans might be a tad less accomindating. Maybe. But frankly they are just as lawyer-ridden and court controlled as anyone else. Besides in California, the “top two” election rules mean that Democrats win without serious objections and the big city interest rule and journalists tells the public what to think. It is apparent that the public would rather hear soothing words of unreality than worry about the consequences of what they vote for.

The point was that the police do not make the rules nor do they make the court system. Not that the courts do not make the rules. I would have written ” The police don’t make the rules nor does the court system” if I meant what you chose to think. Reading is hard, isn’t it? But apparently reading is not a requirement for writing comments.

Funny how you consider “never been in the “system”” some sort of reason for for not understanding while you are busy not understanding. And what interpretation is supposed to be made of that idea?

Which paricular part of the process should this crowd assemble? For the ten or more pretrial hearings on bail, scheduling, court appointed representatives or diversions? I was once subpoenaed as a witness in a DUI. I went to court 5 times where the case was rescheduled or another petition heard. I learned at the one where no one- not the defendant nor any of the attorneys- showed up but me that the prosecutors would never bother to notify me that their subpoenas did not mean anything would happen ever. In the end, after I started calling them before the each time I was supposed to come when a new subpoena was issued, that they eventually did a plea agreement after several more false starts and I never had to come in ever and no one was ever on trial.

We need court reform where the rules are less flexible for the convenience of attorneys, the courts and the defendants. Maybe then the public showing up might mean something.

How about streamllining the process? Why have 5 or 6 court hearing each before you even get to pre trial etc. Why have a pre trial? They overly complicate the process then bitch because it is clogged up. Start with OR/ bail hearing and combine more of these into one hearing. Next move…..pick jury then trial if no plea deal. Save taxpayers money and move the process along faster better for all involved except………the lawyers. They get paid big bucks.

https://www.shouselaw.com/self-defense.html

Under California law, a person is allowed to use force in self-defense or defense of others when he (1) believes that he or they are in “imminent danger,” (2) believes that force is necessary to stop the danger, and (3) uses an appropriate level of force in defense.

Self-defense serves as a legal defense to many California crimes, including:

murder, under Penal Code 187 PC,
domestic battery, under Penal Code 243e1 PC, and
assault, under Penal Code 240 PC.
Examples:

killing a man with a gun to prevent a rape.
kicking a burglar.
pushing an attacker down a staircase.
A person can use self-defense as a legal defense when he defends:

himself,
another person, or
his property.
Note that the Castle Doctrine is a set of laws in California that apply to the situation where a person uses self-defense inside his home. Under this doctrine, a person:

does not have to retreat when someone breaks into his home, and
may use deadly force in defense of himself or someone else in the home.
In addition to using deadly force in defending one’s home, a person can legally use this force in self-defense when:

he believes he, or someone else, is in imminent danger of being killed or suffering great bodily injury,
he believes he must use deadly force to prevent death or injury, and
he uses an appropriate level of force (under the circumstances) in self-defense.
Our California criminal defense attorneys will highlight the following in this article:

Listen folks if youre feeling this upset then call the DA office and ask why he was released.

Our DA is letting us down big time. Do your homework, look up the issues with the DA office like hiring a man whose actions in the office abd inabilities in the court room led to 90% of the DA office quitting with an open public letter. The BOS backed our DA in that hire. Thats partly whats caused overcrowding in jail, for awhile there a basic arraignment was taking 6 weeks as there were no DA folks to do the cases.
We have a BOS election coming up. Ask the candidates about this issue.

Y’all love to complain here but thats not gonna get us anywhere. Complain to the people causing the issue if you need to complain. Find out who psid his bail.
Heres the DA office # 445-7411.

If they tell you he was released based on poor evidence gathering so no case possible, then call them on it. The sheriff’s may be inept but overall chp is not so we know theres good info.
Or maybe like the dookie bros guy, this guy is a CI who gets out of jail free and gets tax payer funded money to survive. The guy in our circles years ago who turned out to be a CI got 50,000, place to live and a car for narcing. Our tax dollars.
Lets hope someone brings back ourbackwoods justice and takes care of mr harris. Its time to stand up for ourselves and fight back like we used to, no cops involved. The message needs to be sent that if you come to rip us off we will fight back.

It does not make a bit of difference who you vote for. This problem is bipartisan. This county is not equipped to handle the population we have here, traffic, crime, housing, medicaland mental health.
Our jail is full of murderers, molesters, and really serious felons. They occupy our jail for 2 to 3 yrs before they are aquitted or transported to prison. The courts are backed up like crazy. No laws or politicians are going to make more jail cells and courtrooms.
This county may need to get creative with work camps etc….but then need to hire officers to run them. The Redwood Curtain is called that for a reason.

There are some ballot initiatives in November to partially address this.
Get out and vote. Encourage other citizens to read about these initiatives and vote.

California Criminal Sentencing, Parole, and DNA Collection Initiative (2020) Vote YES.

A “yes” vote supports this initiative to add crimes to the list of violent felonies for which early parole is restricted; recategorize certain types of theft and fraud crimes as wobblers (chargeable as misdemeanors or felonies); and require DNA collection for certain misdemeanors.

California Replace Cash Bail with Risk Assessments Referendum (2020) Vote NO.

A “no” vote is to repeal the contested legislation, Senate Bill 10 (SB 10), thus keeping in place the use of cash bail for detained suspects awaiting trials.

You can read more about them here… https://ballotpedia.org/California_2020_ballot_propositions

I just wonder if the pos even got arraigned ,for this last batch of crime or had a bail ???
Who does he know ??? Probation is a joke, and they do nothing. I just read he got bail all about the money he should have been denied

We need a habitual offender law that attorney’s and the courts can not pick apart nor journalists cast in a bad light by cherry picking what they report. A man who has his sentence extended because he has “stolen a bicycle” is not in prison because he did that. He is in prison because he stole a bicycle along with twenty other crimes not mentioned.

And here we go again with the Political Finger Pointing ☝️
All you people who think the police want to release this guy , Hell No they don’t !!! But if you have the money 💰 to get out , than what ? They can’t just keep you !! Come on people, every one show up for his court date , make a stink , call the DA !!! One day, he will rob the wrong house , wrong property and well we all know he will be just another “missing person “ but till that day, he will rob you blind !!! Take a long look at all the posts/ news articles about Mr. Harris !!!
Fucking California do something about this POS !!!

Why do people blame the Sheriff’s Office and accuse them of being corrupt when they are just following the laws that the liberal people of this once great state enacted requiring release on most non violent crimes as well as some violent ones. They are only following the law.

No more democrats. Vote them all out so we can change criminal law and procedure to eliminate these recidivists from the streets permanently.

More people paying higher taxes is the only fix. And that is opposed by Republicans.
Can you respond to that Jeffersonian?

Kym, The person to ask about this is our illustrious, devoted DA, Maggie Flemming. She’s got some serious splaining to do.

I consider myself a liberal person yet do not condone thievery. People should pay for their crimes. We are NEVER going to clean this community up and make it a safer place if we let people out like this. It’s very sad. Animals are euthanized for bad behavior. What gives humans the right to inflict harm on others and then go free to continue doing so. Wade Harris is a chronic criminal. I hope he gets a taste of his karmic payback soon. This is disgusting and criminal in itself allowing him to repeat…repeat…and create harm amongst us.

You know wade is reading these comments right? He is banging his ol lady with a crack pipe in his mouth planning his next burglary. He is reading this , laughing his head off! Life is sweet for ol wade. Very sweet indeed. Makes me want to quite my day job and start being a alcoholic/addict dirt bag again. Sounds very lucrative.

Can the Sheriff request of the DA that someone be kept in jail until their court case? Ed Denson, where are you? Need an informed opinion please. The DA office needs to be flooded with disapproving calls in my opinion.

I’ll chip in 1,000$ for a different plan….the decades I spent in the bowels of humboldt I discovered that there are people who are desperate and willing to do just about anything. People that were and still are my distant friends. People that have served heavy time and have done unspeakable things. People that are not afraid. Money talks in this world. Money makes clean hands and a good nights sleep. You just need to know the right, or in some cases, the wrong people. Being a victim can happen to anyone, doing something about it should always be an option.

Did YOU vote to remove the 10 commandments from the public’s sight? And prayer out of schools? Our society s a product of our own righteousness ( or LACK thereof) APART from God. You asked for it, you got it! Repent or quit whining. The difference starts with each of us taking self inventory and making changes. Then setting that example. Just go through the list of the Ten Commandments and be honest with yourself. This whole Wade thing totally made me think of the woman caught in adultery. All they with stones in hand , if YOU are (without sin) blameless, innocent, just , honest, moral, upholding the law… cast the first stone. They all went away, ashamed. If you don’t like what you see then be the change in our society that you wish to see in the world. Don’t just sit around and plot murder ( assasination with your lips) on anyone didn’t change to make you happy. While you have no intention of examining yourselves. 😊.

All you people worried about Wade have seemed to forget they actually people who were involved in the Salmon Creek incident that all got released and also one other not even caught or mentioned. You think your all safe with Wade in jail but Heather Taylor, Wes Evans, and Jamie Rodgers are all running around free on herion and crystal meth. Who are you going to blame now when shit goes down? Wade is in jail fools!

This is not a republic! Left versus right is a paradigm, an act. Wade was released for the bail money. The justice system is occult at the roots and corrupt of course. Wade being released is all apart of the bigger agenda that is tied to the scamdemic. People were talking about the 3/11 conspiracy for years. If you do not believe the Kobylierus was planned google Scenarios for the Future of Technology and International Development, page 18. This whole script was wrote down May 2010 by the Rockefellers of course. Food Chain Reaction Game? Event 201? It’s so right in your faces! Our rights are being removed as the government grows in power as they intentionally crush small businesses. Why do you think they made sure to keep fast food running? Take a look at the other hand! The government is forcing the US to dump all our milk and kill of all of our animal agriculture. The impossible whopper has 44ml of estrogen in it. Literally 18 million times the amount in the original whopper. Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos ‘step down’ and start investing massively in food production. This whole thing is more about the control of your food than you sleeple realize as well. It’s about contact tracing and biometric ID. It’s just more control and tracking their ‘cattle.’ That is how all these corrupt government officials actually feel about you naive people. Social engineering is underway. The CIA is hired mostly to deceive and manipulate the American people. I cannot believe that people still believe in this whole charade.
