Access to the McCann Ferry. [Photo from the County of Humboldt]
The McCann Bridge off the Dyervile Loop Road east of Weott has reopened. Last week’s storm had forced the McCann Ferry to be put into operation. Today, the County is reporting that vehicles can traverse the bridge.

🕯🌳Good morning Kym and thank you for the updates. 👍🏽🖖
Alas, looking at the forecast for the weekend, this might be a very brief opening…
That bridge is so low to the river I am surprised it is not covered in water five minutes after it starts to rain. Running the boat (ferry) back and forth works fine except at night when you cannot see what is coming down the river headed for you. Been used for many years, and so far so good.
Walked the old (pre 64) bridge many times with the water coming over the deck. Back when it had rail irons running down the middle of the bridge the drift would hang up on the rails. the water wasn’t so deep on the deck that a car couldn’t cross but somebody had to shove the drift over the down stream side to clear the deck. You can easily get a good case of vertigo watching the water blast by. Some times it took 2 people to shove the big stuff over after the river had been over the bridge for awhile. Sometimes it took chainsaw work to cut the drift down small enough to shove it over. Sometimes it was chaining it to the bumper of the car and dragging it off.
Ah yes. The bad old days.
