This is a press release from CalTrans:

TRAFFIC ADVISORY:

U.S. Highway 101 near Ridgewood Grade, Willits, Mendocino County, 30-Minute Delays, Jan. 27-31

Caltrans will be installing a Gawk/Glare Screen from Reeves Canyon Road to Ridgewood Ranch Road (PM 34.5-39.4).  Installation will begin Monday, Jan. 27 and, to reduce the impact on morning commutes, will take place overnight from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. One-lane traffic control will be in effect, and motorists should anticipate 30-minute delays. Work is expected to last three days, depending on weather.

This safety project is in response to motorist comments to help enhance safety during the construction project. Gawk or Glare Screens are installed in construction zones to prevent headlights from impairing the night vision of oncoming motorists and to prevent distraction.

They also need to redirect the powerful beams of their night working lights at an angle that does not blind us when we drive at night

They also need to finally complete their repairs before the end of human history.

The bad news is Ridgewood Grade will never be stable…it’s the same crumbling geologic type that made rail traffic up the Eel no longer feasible (most expensive RR line in the country to maintain)…same crumbling geologic type that made CalTrans install the flying viaduct on Hwy 101 to bypass Confusion Hill
