Press release from CDFW:

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) and the State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) are hosting four free commercial cannabis permitting workshops in northern California.

The free workshops are ideal for new and existing cultivators and formatted to help cultivators navigate the state’s licensing process. Participants will be able to ask specific project questions, obtain permitting materials, learn about compliance and meet staff.

“We and our state partners are here to assist cultivators that are pursuing a state cultivator license and to explain regulatory compliance associated with commercial cannabis cultivation,” said Ryan Mathis, CDFW Environmental Program Manager for the Cannabis Environmental Compliance Program.

CDFA’s CalCannabis Cultivation Licensing Division will provide an overview of the state’s cannabis cultivation licensing program and review the requirements for cannabis farming. CDFW will cover Lake and Streambed Alteration agreements and how to limit environmental impacts.  The State Water Board will review its cannabis policy, the permitting process and other important information.

California’s cannabis regulations require commercial cultivators to obtain the necessary state licenses and local permits, as well as implement best management practices to reduce environmental impacts.

Workshops are scheduled on the following dates and times.

  • Jan. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.*
    Trinity County Fairgrounds
    6000 CA-3
    Hayfork
    *presentations start at 10:30 a.m.
  • Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.*
    Harwood Hall
    44400 Willis Avenue
    Laytonville
    *presentations start at 10:30 a.m.
  • Feb. 12 will have two sessions: 9 a.m. to noon and 3 to 7 p.m.*
    River Lodge Conference Center
    1800 Riverwalk Drive
    Fortuna
*presentations will start 30 minutes after the doors open for each session

Fortuna allows 5 plants for private use only. This was state law passed in 2018(?)
But you must pay a $100 per year permit fee, be inspected by the building department for the required structure/wiring mandates. Otherwise, you are ILLEGAL and criminal in your activities.
Guess what-EVERYONE IN FORTUNA WHO GROWS IS CRIMINAL!!!!!!

Not great info Willie. They could use a few more dead animals. A stuffed bald eagle is more appropriate of CDFW than the hopefully fake bear skin.

The whole reason I clicked the article was to see if it explained why they needed a dead animal as the largest thing on their table…

Wow, funny you mention that. That struck me too as inappropriate to display that. Maybe internally they don’t understand Fish and Wildlife? Unbelievable!

After harvesting a ca black bear legally in season you need to take it to them and only them to get validated. They extract a tooth for scientific purposes and want to see the meat in a cooler to be sure hunters aren’t wasting meat. Maybe…… this is why they have the skin on table?? I don’t know, just a guess. What any of this has to do with devils lettuce/dope is anyone’s guess.

Cdfw is a joke. These people only care about putting a dime in their pockets. I have a beautiful pond, it’s been there 70+ years. Ducks, turtles, otters sometimes. I applied for a cannabis permit, but we are not using this pond except for wildlife/fire danger. There are established shade trees from decades ago, a nice little place to relax. CDFW wants me to take a BULLDOZER to it and destroy all the wildlife, just to get a dollar in their pocket. It is on a non fish bearing, seasonal creek. There’s never been any structural concern over this pond. They should add a K on the end to be more appropriate (California Department of Fish and Wildlife Killers)

CDFW is absolute nightmare. They ignore CEQA mandated time-frames, Permit Streamlining Act time-frames and their own Public Resource Code time-frames. What’s worse is that the Planning Department is complicit! In fact, the County zoning regulations, Section 312-6.1.3 of the Humboldt County Code, referral agencies are allowed 10 working days to submit their comments and/or recommendations or it will be assumed that no comments or recommendations are forthcoming. This is never enforced!

Many folks have spent tens of thousands of dollars on permit consultants, engineers, archaeologists, foresters, and even biologists, to only have CDFW come in at the last minute to require ponds to be removed, roads and landings that were installed as part of an approved Timber Harvest Plan to be removed and the land restored to pre-activity (approved activities) conditions. The process is backwards. The first step of the permitting process should require a preliminary site visit (fatal flaw inspection) by all agencies before a complete application is submitted. I asked CDFW about a pre-site on behalf of my clients at a Workshop at the Adorni Center a couple years ago. They (she) said “…we don’t’ do that, but that’s a great idea”

The County and the State should be encouraging ponds, they provide groundwater recharge, valuable habitat and emergency water sources for fire protection.

I have to say, it is so frustrating to hear Supervisor Fennell say again and again, how easy it is to get a permit.

CDFW and the Waterboard are the most out of control, corrupt and inept agencies in the entire state. We have to pay them to grow a damn vegetable garden in our yard now! Complete with reporting, registration fees, yearly fees, etc. They are charging us thousands upon thousands of dollars to use our own water on our own land, all of which was permitted and legally built 20-30 years ago. For all that money they won’t even return e-mails, answer calls, or answer questions. The employees we have had to deal with are lazy, inept and totally clueless. They don’t give a damn about the environment, they just want to extort money for people. They even cut us off from our deeded spring, which we have used for over 20 years! Now we will have to BUY drinking water during the next drought since we can’t even drink OUR water and OUR land without risking being slapped with ‘environmental felonies’ or fined hundred of thousands of dollars.

[edit] These agencies are goddamn terrorist organizations and should be treated as such. Dispand CDFW and defund the Waterboard!

Its all true. Cut you off from your own spring. Tear down perfectly good ponds, find reasons to create more damage to fix things that don’t need fixing, all designed to generate fees and fines for their pockets. Not real beneficial for land but for them. If you haven’t started, DONT. They will lead you 90% of the way, change the rules and bankrupt you, on a whim. Been in the process for 5 years now and still might get axed for who knows what.

Keep them off your property at all costs. Once they get a foothold they will keep on you. It’s not worth a lousy permit that won’t be worth anything in a few years. I would rather keep my piece of paradise to myself and not let the pencil pushers in, than spend a bunch of money and open Pandora’s box of bullshit, just for a permit.

Not just the bureaucracy, the agents are power tripping, gun-toting wannabe cops. I’ve seen them steal, hold peaceful people at gunpoint, and go to court and lie their asses off.

“We and our state partners are here to assist cultivators…” The people at CDFW who put on these workshops are completely out of touch with the people who are overseeing the actual permitting process. There, the staff is adversarial and hostile, and completely unwilling to “work with” landowners. Its shocking how uncomfortable these people make it and how far they have pushed the DFG Code into underground regulation. You have these people on your land for one day and you will really start to understand why people vote republican.

Meanwhile some trophy elk are run off of state and federal park lands and poached in Humboldt, and not just the random ones we see in the news… At least I would call running them off poaching.

Is this just a local thing? I mean they occasionally actually bust professional poaching rings in Mendocino.
