David Lane Hornbrook

David Lane Hornbrook
12/02/1938-01/04/2020

David “Big Dave” Hornbrook was born in Eureka CA on 12/02/1938 and passed from this life on 01/04/2020. He lived his entire life in the Eureka area. Dave grew up loving the outdoors where his dad taught him and his brother to fly fish when they were young boys. They would often be found on the Eel River having caught their limits of steelhead, or out camping along the Klamath and Trinity Rivers. They grew up fishing with some of the best fly fishermen in the area and Dave had some great memories of that time in his life. He also loved sports and had an amazing ability to remember sports statistics, especially anything relating to his 49ers or Dodgers, whether it was the current team or from when he first started watching them. You could ask him anything and chances were he’d know the answer.

Dave worked in the lumber mills before he started working as a custodian and grounds keeper at College of the Redwoods, retiring after 33 years with CR.

Dave is survived by his daughter, Randi Fisher and his grandchildren, Kaylee and Aden. He is also leaves his sister, Karen Hornbrook Rolfe and her husband Phil, his cousins and his sister-in-law. Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Ford, his father, Harry Hornbrook and his brother, Bill Hornbrook.

Big Dave was blessed with a wealth of people that cared about him and he’ll be missed by them. He will especially be missed by his “family” and friends at Lost Coast Brewery.

Dave’s family would like to thank his friends who came to see him in the hospital, it meant a lot to him. To the ones who went above and beyond to help Dave the last few months of his life, you know who you are, we cannot express how much we appreciate everything you sacrificed for him. And a warm thank you to the nurses and doctors at St. Joseph Hospital who cared for Dave, you helped ease the end of his journey. Thank you all.

There will be a pot-luck get together upstairs at the brewery on Sunday, January 19, 1:00-3:00pm. Please bring something to share, including a story or two about “Big Dave”.

Dave was my first cousin, he lived on my parent’s property for the last 40 years. He was always very nice,& respectful to me & my family. He would drop the mail,& n-paper off for my mom at the front door.He was always looking out for mom, & my mom was there for him as they got older. It gave me so much comfort to know that he was a close family member on site, cause I live down south 7 hrs away.Just always a gentleman that said positive comments about my family. Thanks to all who cared,& looked out for Dave.Extra kudos to his adopted son Aaron, he was like a guardian angel!
